Statue Series - What's The Story: Saint Joseph

in #travel7 years ago

In Montreal we have a minor Basilica and plus a shrine (although it is actually the largest Church in Canada), with statue of Saint Joseph at the far bottom of the Basilica (like seriously, from this statue to get inside to the Basilica, we do have to walk quite a bit, but in summer it is very lovely to do with beautiful flowers, well tended area, just very lovely).

Saint Joseph is patron saint of workers and also protector of Catholic Church, but of course as you know, he was husband of Mary, mother of Jesus Christ.

I believe the baby on his arms is baby Jesus.

Thanks For Looking!

Lovely in summer, slightly less so in winter? :) One of those extensive church grounds that go on forever then? :D There's a monastic town that I went to in high school on an art camp, and then again decades later when we took the kids there for an excursion (along with mother in law to give us a different perspective as she had gone to school there back in the day when the boarding schools were active), and they had two sarcophaguses (one in the middle of the cemetary, one in the nearby church), and a statue that were lined up on one axis and the church was cross shaped. Not sure if there was anything on either side to mark the cross or if it was just implied by the shape of the church. Some interesting town planning there.
