Steemit Tips #5 - How Often Should you Upload a Blog Post without OVERPOSTING?

in #steemit7 years ago

"Overposters" You know who you are. These are the people who seem to squeeze out a blog post every two hours. I watched a new user on Steemit upload one about every 30 minutes. This clogs up the feed of his followers and induces post-fatigue in anyone reading the endless stream.

How many posts per day?

Well, it really depends on your audience. If you're new to Steemit and trying to build a following, you need to give your writing a chance to be seen. A good strategy for someone with few followers is to post your article, then spend a day or so promoting it, while readying the next one for publishing.

If you're using Steemfollower, (and as a new user you should be) the site only activates your latest post. So what I do is get my newest work out there and let it attract upvotes for a few days, then drop the next one and repeat the process. Imagine you're brand new on Steemit, you join SF and start publishing 5 articles a day. Since they only show your newest post, your writing won't be available long enough to draw in those hot, juicy upvotes. In short, you're shooting yourself in the foot by posting too much.

Publish - Promote - Prepare

If you already have a fanbase of rabid readers ready to gobble up everything you produce, posting up to 4 times a day is a real possibility. You can actually begin by writing daily as long as you have a support base able to give your work the exposure it deserves. The good thing about writing every day is that it allows you to develop good habits and the more you write, the better it gets.

Imagine your latest blog post as a hungry, newborn baby. Steemfollower is the nourishing milk that helps your little one grow. As the upvotes pour into the ravenous youngster, you want to make sure she gets her fill before reaching for the next toddler on deck. Having a regular "feeding schedule" allows each of your creations to get exactly what they need to succeed.

Publish new stuff, Promote to get the word out, Prepare the next one.

What system do you use for growing your blog? Which strategies have worked for you on Steemit?

Why thank you, Sir! My sector is secure! :)

There is a lot of debate about how many posts is to many even for those with a following. They end up taking a larger portion of the reward pool if they post more then a couple times a day.

There have been some serious Flag Wars, down voting, of authors posts when a group of other bloggers feel they are taking to much of the reward pool.

Not sure there is a correct answer, but make sure each post truly adds value to the community.

I see those wars and get what each side is saying, but they only hurt the perception the masses have of Steemit. I see some people upvote their own comments, I don't as I read about it before I joined. Some people say It's ok for newbies, but I just decided to stay out of it all together.

I enjoyed reading your post 1 Changed Habit, 10 Years, $100,000 saved everyone should read "The Richest Man in Babylon" and "Rich Dad Poor Dad" well done!

I just recently stopped upvoting my comments. Had been doing it when I didn't have time to use all my votes for a day and didn't want to waste vote power. Totally get why not to do it, but a new member needs all the help they can get. We all need to try and help more new members and get them started.

Thank you about the post. Completely agree about those books. If more people would invest the time into reading those books think we would be in a much better position with people that provide for themselves and don't rely on the government to support them.

BTW, added you to my follow list.

Wow thanks for the advice. I seem to have a consistency problem, in that I have 10 good ideas at the same time and then get unmotivated soon after the moment passes. How would you recommend overcoming this?

Also, what about resteems and the boys? Do I post AFTER a resteem or does it matter?

I don't understand your question here, can you rephrase it?

Oh haha, “boys” was autocorrected from blogs! Should I post a blog or resteem first?

If I understand you correctly, it really does not matter. some people resteem when they are new and have not written their first post yet.

I get alot of ideas too. What I did was setup an "unfinished posts" folder on my laptop where I store test blog titles, bits of a post and any random ideas to flesh out later. I also write my posts in pieces. I'll create a paragraph or so and then stop to do something else until a new idea pops into my head. This way I'm not "forcing" the writing and everything stays fresh and interesting.

The post title you see was the fourth one (I make several and then tweak them for Google and choose the best one) I write daily, but only publish it when I have something done. No need to pressure yourself right? :)

Thank you for Steemfollower. I use SteemitWorldMap (only once for now)and planning to add some video to my story so I'll be using Dtube as well. And yes I can see many new users overposting and because losing few supporters along the way.

Good to see you using all the tools at your disposal to grow on Steemit AND you blew right past 50 followers! Congrats!

All is Fair in Love and War and Steemit :) Thanks to you

You mentioned using Steem Follower, but that's an external application, right? I haven't felt comfortable using my Steem login to access another website. Can't they just steal my monies?

Hello! :) You should never do something you're not comfortable with. I've been using SF for months now with no problem as it only uses your posting key (The one I'm writing this message with) I felt the same as you do when I first joined, then I watched how it all worked for awhile, before trying.

Your posting key has nothing to do with your funds.

You can acheive similar effects on your own, by reading my last Steemit Tips article about commenting. Thanks! :)

I only use my posting key as well, so I'll have to consider it. If the funds aren't at risk, it's not as bad. I can just use the master to reset the posting if something happens. Thanks!

Hi great post.
This is a question that has been puzzling me for months I remember I read once that you should be posting one a day but make it as informative as you can.
I also read that some people can spend literally hours on a post and some post I read you can kind of tell that a lot of time has been spent on them. I confess I am way to eager to publish content that is no where near ready to be read and this post taught me about patience. I am very new to steemfollower also actually this is my first day using it.

I'm a student, so I post when I can. I do try to write something every day even if it's just a paragraph or post idea. I can spend hours tweaking an article to make it better. However, I refuse to let this pressure me. I write for fun! :)

This is really helpful for me as I am newbie here. I just joined few days ago. Thank you very much!

I'm happy to provide value to others and welcome you to Steemit Nation! Thanks for your support! :)

Great info here, thanks. When I first joined up, I followed some people and then rapidly became bored with the rather shallow stuff they were churning out several times a day.
On the other hand, there are some posters who have the knack of posting several times a day and keeping every single one of them enertaining - and if they've already built up a following, that can work well.
But I can really see the importance of spending time on post promotion, especially for minnows.

I'm looking at my feed now and one person uploaded SEVEN times in the last 5 hours. I follow him because he creates good content, so some people can do it.

I like your writing. I just read your piece on food allergies and couldn't agree more.

Thanks for that! It's great to be appreciated.

I am new on Steemit and have been looking for good practical advice. Thanks for being concise and clear. I appreciate the help. Thanks again.

Nice of you to say that. I just watched your clip and love the way you interact with the audience. You will scale Mt. Steemit and then review posts saying "who wrote this?" lol! Best wishes my friend. :)

Could "Who wrote this?" become your "thing?" :)

(Holds up copy of The Declaration of Independence, "who wrote this??) lol

Thank you for this post, I'm new here and learning about doing better posting practices is one of my goals.

Thanks for stopping by. I took a look at your page and see you growing on this platform. STEEM on!
