Steemit Tips # 3 - What is The Best Time for YOU to Publish Your Blog Posts?

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

What's the best time to publish your blog post? Well, it really depends on who you're trying to reach. Looking at the United States, most of the population lives in the eastern half of the country. Once you cross the Mississippi River, you enter the soft, gooey, sugary underbelly of our lovely landmass (the empty flyover states, where cow-mating farmers frolic in the fields). Just kidding, we love you guys! :)

Is there anybody out there?

Much like the "Empty Quarter" in Saudi Arabia, Wyoming is practically devoid of people, with the smallest population of any State. Aside from Texas, the action doesn't start to pick up until you reach salvation on the sunny West Coast of California.

Nine states in the Midwest/West have more cattle than people:

  • South Dakota
  • Nebraska
  • Montana
  • North Dakota
  • Wyoming
  • Kansas
  • Idaho
  • Iowa
  • Oklahoma

Most blogs reach peak traffic at 11am Eastern Time and the West Coast Pacific Time Zone is three hours behind at 8am. So, if you're in Germany (6 hours ahead) you would post at 2pm local time to reach the tech influencers in Silicon Valley and 5pm local time to reach the majority of the US audience.

11am NY time around the world:

  • Berlin: 5pm (6 hours ahead)
  • London: 4pm (5 hours ahead)
  • Moscow: 7pm (8 hours ahead)
  • Sydney: 3am (16 hours ahead)
  • Cape Town: 6pm (7 hours ahead)
  • San Francisco: 8am (3 hours behind)
  • Tokyo: 1am (14 hours ahead)
  • New Delhi: 9:30pm (10.5 hours ahead)
  • Beijing: 12am (13 hours ahead)
  • Istanbul: 7pm (8 hours ahead)
  • São Paulo: 2pm (3 hours ahead)
  • Jerusalem: 6pm (7 hours ahead)
  • Ulan Bator: 12am (13 hours ahead)
  • Lagos: 5pm (6 hours ahead)
  • Baku: 8pm (9 hours ahead)
  • Auckland: 5am (18 hours ahead)
  • Aceh: 11pm (12 hours ahead)

With a ton of data around, I looked at my own experience blogging and noticed patterns when posting. Most tech news sites post between 7 and 9am, with some getting the jump as early as 6am.

Many of my favorite YouTubers upload as early as 3am (NY time) Hitting the morning European crowd and setting themselves up to be first out of the gate in the US. I got good results at 7-8am (workers checking the web before their commute) 11am (first break or start of lunch) 1pm (back from lunch) 3pm (next break) with a last check-in at work between 4-4:30 pm (right before the evening commute) and 7pm (arrival at home) final browsing of the web before prime time television.

Publish at the right time...

So when publishing an article, try to tailor the upload time to the region you intend to connect with the most. If I were writing about a Steemit meetup in Aceh, I would post it for the local time there. The good thing is that there is always someone awake somewhere, so you will always have the chance to be seen. What time do you publish your blog posts on Steemit?

This is however useful info and something that we certainly have to take in consideration and keep in mind. But we also have here (maybe you didn't come across it yet) a great tool way more precise and especially made for Steemit, created by user @jga and called "Steem Activity."

Steem Activity tool is hosted on github.io and if you follow the given link just by typing into the "Account" box there your username, hit enter or click on the search icon, it would show you the exact activity of your current Followers and accordingly the best time to publish your post.
Just keep in mind that the process of data collection may last several minutes what depends on the current number of your followers (bigger followers' base = longer wait).

I believe you might like it if you already don't know about it! 😊

Thank you for sharing!!

You are more than welcome! 😊

Thanks @ana-maria looks like a useful tool to reach followers with your posts. I also write with Google in mind to bring new people onto the platform. What I would love to know is where the majority of Steemit members in general come from?

For instance, If the majority of users lived in Mongolia, I might have to start localizing my blog! :)

hahahahaha - good point!
I think I've seen something like that before - some kind of map showing that - members' density on the globe or something like that.
Will have to dig for that in my bookmarks.
