[ENG] My steemit pearls week 15

in #steemit6 years ago (edited)

The ocean always surprises me...

... and offers lovely pearls, sometimes well hidden, sometimes well reachable. Following I recap the five best posts I came across in week 15 here on Steemit.

I do this because I am still a minnow and regard it disadvantageous to resteem a lot in this state but still want to support the global Steemit community. Also my voting power is low.

If you want to be mentioned in one of my upcoming posts, I recommend commenting so I can become aware of you and your blog!

Dive for my last 5 pearls here. Splash!

The posts of this series are always in English, but I consider English Steemit posts as well as German ones.

Let's start!

@erh.germany (Erika) actually decided to leave steemit a few weeks ago, leaving behind many sad followers of her. She now decided to write another peace called "A QUEST OF NOT BECOMING CORRUPT" about the importance of connecting with oneself by taking risks. She asks her readers to share a story where they went through an experience that felt dangerous at that moment. Interested in the consequences of our actions and omissions she wonders if we felt as a victim or as a victory. She demonstrates her call by writing about her own work-related resistances.

In "Here is how the Steemit Trending Page would look like without Bid Bots and Self Votes!" @trufflepig writes about post promotions using bid bots or vote selling services. Since he regards it as difficult to make it to the trending pages without spending 100 SBD or more on bid bot services, he wonders how the trending page would look like without them. He created a list of the top 10 posts that presumingly did not pay for votes, he calls "a list of the humble". Furthermore @trufflepig recommends a tool called "CustomFeed" that represents ones own individualized Steemit feed.

@whatageek is a scifi writer and in one of his latest posts called "How To Get A Story Published" gives tipps on how to become a successfull author. He recommends using a submission grinder, a free site giving an overview of the markets.

Furthermore he recommends not writing for the money since it will most likely not be profitable. But for the beginning he recommends writing shorter and shorter stories. In his view it is not wisely to think too much about rejections or to even wait a long time for answers after sending a story. It is best to write the next one right away.

His next tip is about the importance to encourage yourself by always trying to become a better writer while not letting yourself down because of feelings you are not good enough. There is also always the possibility of rewriting ones own work after a rejection. But rewriting a story that one has not yet send in can be important too. It is especially usefull if you do it weeks later.

@shortcut wrote a post called "TIL: How to Hide the Thumbnail Image in your Steemit Post [The Easy Way]" about a nice trick that is might usefull for one or the other steemian. It's about how to hide your preview image in order to present a different image as the first image in your actual steemit post. @shortcut picked up this idea from a post by @arwine who solved the problem by using a lot of div-containers around an image link.

@shortcut on the other hand works this out by resizing the images with the help of the service of steemitimages.com. That means, that one simply adds the url of one's preview image after https://steemitimages.com. But in between both of them one should insert a resizing ratio that is low enough to almost totally hide the image, for example like this: https://steemitimages.com/5x5/https://i.imgur.com/C6JaLw2.jpg. One then puts the whole link at the end of the first line of the post, respectively before the first actual image of the post.

In "Der D-A-CH Support Bot ist live !" @jedigeiss presents a bot for the German, Austrian and Swiss Steemit community that aims to upvote articles people send in once a day according to a certain procedure. The clue is that the votes the bot is giving depends on the members voting for it on the German Steem Discord server.
