SOS Daily News : news about the State of Steem @ 12 January 2019

in steem •  5 months ago  (edited)

Hold the front page...

News just in. @misterdelegation (ie Steemit Inc) has withdrawn its delegations from @dsound, @musing and @sndbox.

The delegation to @dsound was the biggest at 1 million SP I believe.

This seems to have happened without warning. Awaiting more news...

And if one big headline wasn't enough...

Read this post from @therealwolf...

HardFork 21 - Freedom is just another name...

@crimsonclad's SteemWave Saturdays show yesterday was all abuzz with talk of the Hardfork 21 Pull Request (PR) that had just been submitted to the Steemdev GitHub.

The PR submitted by @jnordberg (aka @almost-digital), and nicknamed 'Freedom', is proposing to fork Steem to break away from Steemit Inc.

This hardfork if adopted by witnesses will set all Steemit Inc. controlled accounts authorities to the null key.

@jnordberg comments further on the PR...

Accounts also need to be set into a "neutral" state.

This includes

Removing active delegations
Removing any witness votes and proxy
Removing any withdraw routes
Disabling account recovery

An seemingly innocuous comment on the PR from @inertia had been deleted by steemdev...

If Steemit, inc. decides not to block this, all they have to do is power down. After 13 weeks, if it passes, all you’ll have is bad press after that. E.g: who would be safe from having their stake arbitrarily removed?

This PR would need a super majority (15?) of the top 20 witnesses to back it and so is extremely unlikely to go forward.

The conclusion of the discussion on @crimsonclad's show was that it was more "a shot across the bows" for Steemit Inc.

Many commented that this HF21 would in effect amount to theft in terms of taking the assets (ie SteemPower) owned by Steemit Inc. This would set a dangerous precedent if anyone's stake in Steem could just be removed by forking.

On a more practical level should Steemit Inc be removed from the equation there is not sufficient alternative infrastructure in place, or immediately available, to support the blockchain, for example in terms of API nodes and blockchain developers.

It may be pure coincidence but the juxtaposition in time between this Hardfork proposition (which includes removing active delegations) and the removal of the delegations from @dsound and co. might raise an eyebrow or two.

Considering the dominance in the witness voting by one single voter, the nickname of this Hardfork as Freedom, might raise a chuckle or two as well.

Once more to the exchanges, my friend

Today the target is Bittrex.

Leading exchange Bittrex tweeted out...

Let's hear it. What USD market pair would you want to see in 2019?

We all know what the answer should be, don't we?

Get your Twitter boots on and go tell Bittrex - Go STEEM.....

@theycallmedan, @krnel, @mindtrap, @cryptocurator, @horpey, @ew-and-patterns and a host of other steemians have been rallying the troops to the cause.

And also...

It has been rather a busy news day, else I had wanted to pick up on these interesting posts from @truthforce, @rosatravels (@partiko) and @taskmaster4450...

Why has misterdelegation removed their delegation from @dsound? Surely just give them a smaller delegation, no need to go completely cold turkey?

No one knows the answer...

Interesting. Hopefully they are waking up.

Wow! Intriguing stuff. Hold on to your hats looks like 2019 could be interesting. Let's hope whatever happens it is in the best interest of the blockchain

Buckle up and grab the popcorn. It will be an interesting ride ahead.

That's all a bit dramatic. I think STINC need to clarify their position as they are losing trust. This HF21 sounds like it could do more harm than good, but maybe someone needs to shake things up.

If you like drama, read the STOP PRESS just added from @therealwolf...

I just saw that. They are not winning any friends with their actions.

As much as I hate to say it, that could potentially damage the music community's use of the platform with the removal of dsound delegation...

I'd like to believe this is temporary. This is also a low blow for dsound development.

Posted using Partiko Android

I hope you're right there @jantrax on the temporary front. We'll have to see what the dsound team say - can't help but feel something is not fundamentally right about it all. I mean, dsound would have said something if they knew what was going on I'd imagine. And just seen the real wolf's post as well....

My words Nicky!!
Let’s help & support @dsound, keep the music alive!

Absolutely! This is where initiatives like @atomcollector, @musicvoter and the MSP will help everything too, seems everyone will need to pull together to keep music on the steem blockchain via dsound if steemit doesn't!

Agreed @nickyhavey & @d-vine. We are here to support musicians and try to avoid the politics as much as possible.

There will be bumps in the road but if we are all travelling in the same direction then things will just get better.

I already delegated 800, 200 more will follow as soon Mana has recharged.
@prc & @dsound have been supporting us artists, it’s time to give back!!
I know it will make a full circle 🎶💞

Thanks for including me on this ;)

Good info here, very comprehensive. Upvoted and resteemed!

Thank you.

I find RealWolf's post amusing, because this has been going on for more than a year. There's a lot of this sort of logic abounds. This is nothing new. They just chose to not pay attention to it till now.
