USD values are calculated per day via API feeds from Poloniex (for STEEM and SBD values in BTC) and Coindesk (for USD value of BTC). For the hourly breakdown graphs, I show the USD values using the weighted average for that day. For the top 50 reports in USD terms, I then took the average USD value for STEEM and SBD for the week using the daily average which came out to:

  • STEEM: $0.15315
  • SBD: $1.01213

Previous Report:

  • STEEM: $0.16223
  • SBD: $1.00998

Assumptions

Please see the first report for a detailed explanation of my personal assumptions related to what this data could mean (along with commentary on previous reports). What it does not show is people powering up, powering down, or if they are buying or selling on an exchange. It's just some interesting data dealing with transfers to and from exchange accounts.

Commentary

  • To be a good STEEMit citizen, I'm removing the @ symbols from this report. If the people mentioned here are using the site, they might not want to get a bunch of browser notifications every week just to see themselves mentioned in a long list.

  • 8.73 to 1? Really? That's the highest ratio we've seen yet. 1056 accounts transferred STEEM or SBD to an exchange while only 121 accounts transferred off an exchange into their personal Steemit account. How I can view that as good? I dunno... I get how STEEM needs to be more widely distributed for this system to take off which means whales need to sell and distribute STEEM, but that means more people need to actually buy in, right?

  • The current withdrawal to deposit ratio makes me feel like a sucker for not going along with the crowd. Maybe I'll never see a return on my investment. Or maybe... maybe it's a good time to be a contrarian investor and buy.

  • @diplo's only post explains their rationale for topping the deposit list this week. It's a good read and quite encouraging for long-term STEEM investors like myself.

  • @thejohalfiles is still buying. @renohq appears to be a chinese account.

  • The powerdown amounts for next week are mostly green with only Wed and Sat in the red (2.2% and 8.4%).

What would be nice is an update on Busy.Org and when that is on track to beta

I've used it myself a bit, and it's quite nice. At last check you couldn't edit comments though.

I was invited and when I log in it just looked like a development area. I will go have a look...

@lukestokes I've been trying to figure out if it's better to power up on a specific day. Like Saturday versus Fridays. Normally, I would not worry about when to enter, but there is so much volatility in prices of BTC and Steem, that I wonder if you have any data on this?

I haven't found an obvious pattern myself.

Steem ecosystem has still a big problem: there are no ways to use steem and SBD. If the only thing you can do with them is to sell, so it's no wonder it happens.

www.steemfiles.com: Distribute your digital goods for SBD.

A marketplace would be fantastic. I'm still hoping for Dan's global domination plan to happen.

Every location that has plugged in shapeshift you can use steem to purchase at. How do you imagine that the only thing you can do is sell steem? You need to do more research before you continue complaining.

If somebody uses Shapeshift or similar service, value exits the Steem ecosystem. Basically they are just selling steem.

What I want to see is steem staying in the ecosystem. I want to see services that people want to use that accept steem and then don't sell that steem for other currencies.

A marketplace is one great way to mitigate this problem. Another way would be to implement more paid services to the blockchain, something like "promoted posts" we have now.

Price of steem consists of supply and demand. Currently there is lots of supply (as we can see from the stats), because there are lots of users who want to sell their steems. But there is very little demand, because there is not much you can use steem for. You can buy SP to improve your voting power, and you can promote your posts, but that's about it. All the rest is just investing/speculating.

Ah understood. Well I will work for steem....sooo dunno if thats along the lines you are talking about? :P

Hey there @lukestokes, been trying to contact you. I haven't seen much activity from you here on steemit or busy in almost a week, and I don't think you use Discourse. I tweeted you a msg but haven't seen a response there either.

You may be out of town on business or vacation on a tropical island enjoying yourself with your family. Whatever you're doing you're obviously busy. I'll be in Nashville on Feb 22 and would love to get together if you have the time. Do let me know when you come up for a breather.

Yeah, we're on vacation and will be back in town later this week. Drop me an email at luke.stokes @ gmail.
