1st Spot Prison Strike by @run-the-bits
Reflecting the struggle to find meaning in a harsh world of apparent meaningless violence, this is raw, arduous and strong prose poetry. Written in solidarity with a strike for humane treatment of prisoners and en end to modern slavery, it's also an unfinished poem. It disrupts and disturbs then leaves the reader without resolution to an unfinished problem.
they hear back bout something shouted in the street Of something crack and head this or that To find a mother with her back kicked in twain A son splayed out in front of her with a hole through his brain And bled dead from his nutsack,
2nd Spot giving up my dreams by @madevi
These lines are written as a resolute statement and yet they come across as a call for action and change. An expression of the shocking end we are bound for, if apathy is allowed to drown out opposition. A depressing poem? I tend to disagree. It is a fitting rememberance following the death of a war criminal who was never brought to justice for his crimes. Composed into six neatly-metered stanzas.
i am giving up my dreams
this world will go down in flames
from now on ignoring all the screams
3rd Spot The Grass Clippings are not Important by @acousticsteveo
Lines which touch the reader as painful and deeply heartbreaking. Reading this sort of love poem, one is struck by the fine line between love and pain, or to question if there's a distinction to be drawn between them at all. Is the resolution of the journey always unclear and the path always on a knife's edge?
The grass clippings are not important
Neither are the sleeping butterflies.
It’s a hopscotch away from happening
And a dragon’s breath from slamming the door.
