Spinning. Magical moments. Poem Challenge. Nature's Beauty. Original Photography

in #poemchallenge7 years ago (edited)

I remember.
Spinning. Spinning. Spinning.
Spinning in the garden of my childhood.

Spinning with my whole body. Spinning until I could spin no longer.
Nothing mattered except how giddy I felt. How good it felt then.
To collapse onto the earth. And just lie there. Just lie there.
Body totally relaxed. Still. Feeling my head whirling.
Being totally at one with that whirling.
As it gradually came to a stop.

Feeling the coolness of the grass on a hot summer's day.
Smelling the freshness. Hearing the bees.
I want to feel that magic always.
I cry. Where is that child.
Who spins. And simply.
IS. HERE. NOW.

~Ally.

Background of this work.

This heart-shaped 'rockpool' in the sand was originally designed as the background for 'Deep is the Ocean of Love.'

'Deep is the Ocean of Love' was created for @everlove's 'Collaborative Art Journey' and was built up from one of her photographs. The process inspired me to experiment with a new assemblage 'method' which I have continued to 'play' with.

So that since then, this same 'rockpool' has featured, often undetectably in:

Adding a few very ancient, broken and cracked seashells that I collected from Shellharbour.

Although these shells have been worn away by water and bear the markings of other sea creatures, they still maintain their cosmos-like spiral formations.

Adding a single white Australian wildflower: Rhodanthe chlorocephala: Commonly called Strawflower or Paper Daisy or Everlasting Daisy. I like to call them 'Everlastings.'

I'd bought a bunch of white and pale pink 'Everlastings' from the Sydney Flower Market, Australia's largest flower market for fresh cut flowers. The flowers lasted for several weeks in water, in a vase and then I let them stand in dry sand to dry out. And last forever.

I selected this particular dried 'Everlasting' for the centre of the heart-shaped rockpool because of its pronounced outward spiraling.

Adding two more white 'Everlastings.' Love working in 3's, 6's and 12's.

To complete this work some pale pink 'Everlasting' buds were added.

About my ephemeral art work.

In my studio, I create small ephemeral pieces from flowers and plants combined with other natural materials that I find in the bushland, ocean or surrounding urban streets. ~Ally.

During the creation of these pieces ~ The process is incredibly magical. Thoughts of anything else are silenced. ~Ally.

Photographs are taken at the different stages of any arrangement. Sometimes a song or quote or other ideas/thoughts/words come to me, as I look at the resulting images. Giving form to new expressions ~ Short 'poems' to accompany the images. ~Ally.

A fuller description is in my introductory article: The Heart of Immortality. ~Ally.

My congratulations and thank you very much for your participating.

You remind me my own time when I was spinning with my friends, so don't you think if we still remember that the little kid is somewhere inside us ? :)))

Thanks so much Margaret. You have just made what is a very sultry day here in Sydney into the most glorious day. I feel so delighted that you liked my 'poem' ~ Without rhythm.

It was wonderful to just let the words come for 'Spinning' ~ The image made me recall what it was like to spin, when I was a child, on our front lawn. I forget to mention the peals of laughter too.

And yes, definitely. Sometimes we can feel the 'challenges' of life so acutely ~ That we have to question where our 'child' has gone. But by recalling the sensations, it makes me realize that the little kid is still inside me and that I need to connect with her more often. Only a tree away. Only a breath away. 🦋

I love the lightness in the poem. Those kid's feelings and carefree wonderful time ;)) During whole my upside down life I need that like fish needs water.

Amazing feeling passed my whole body I could feel that wind and heard the sounds of old good friends.

Have a splendid Sunday ;)))

love your poem, nice moment you picked in it..and photo goes with that moment just perfekt.

I'm so pleased that you see the connections that were being made as this article came together @jungwatercolor.

The assemblage came first. And then as I placed the 'Everlasting' in the centre of the 'heart' ~ The words of Rumi: 'We come spinning out of nothingness' came to mind.

And I remembered how much I loved to spin when I was a child. So that when I wrote the 'poem' I started to recall all the sensations I had felt then.

Love your work so much! Wonderful poetry.

Thank YOU so very much Melinda.

I've often said I'm not a 'writer' ~ Much less a 'poet.' But I do love playing with words and ideas in much the same way as I play with collage and assemblage: Rather like a jigsaw puzzle, re-arranging pieces to see where they go and as they start to fit together, it begins to feel that their meeting is not all that haphazard or accidental. 🦋

You are so talented at seeing beauty and then finding a way to share it.

For me, it's an ongoing 'work' in process Melinda. One of my first tutors in painting, opened me out to the aethetics of the 'ordinary.' So that everything we look at, depending how we look at it, can be seen as being extraordinary.

I loved the work of the surrealists. Bringing unrelated objects together or placing objects in an environment, that's out of the usual context. Alluding to a dream or fantasy world. Challenging us to see objects in a different light.

In my paintings I often worked with unrelated scale and colour. A tiny flower could be bigger than a lizard for example. Once you break free of 'things' not having to be as we think/accept them to be ~ Art becomes so much more joyful. 🦋

I am resteemed my friends

What a beautiful poem coming with great photos! Got to take this with me to my wall, wishing you a wonderful day, Alison! :)

What a wonderful and enchanting white scenery, with words and memories spinning around the heart, flowers, stones and shells...all whirling in a magical dance ^_^

And that child is still where she always was - in you! 💙
