My Top 10 Favorite King Crimson Songs

Who Are King Crimson?

King Crimson could be considered to be the brainchild of Robert Fripp, composer, guitarist, and also a record producer. He is the only member all along staying with this English ensemble and making it all the way to, what next year (2018) will be, namely, the 50 years anniversary.

Robert Fripp

Robert Fripp has the particularity of sitting on a stool instead of standing up when performing, which is in contrast with most of the rock guitar players. Another interesting aspect of his music, but on a more technical note, is his atypical style featuring unusual time signatures that may be the result of him said to be having no rhythmical sense (and being tone deaf) at a young age.

Tony Levin

It's hard to know where to start explaining what does Tony Levin as an American musician. He composes and plays the electric bass, but the projects (King Crimson, Peter Gabriel, Liquid Tension Experiment, etc.) he has been involved in, his recording sessions collaborations (Alice Cooper, Sarah McLachlan, Kevin Parent, etc.), his touring companions (Herbie Mann, Peter Frampton, Richie Sambora, etc.), and his genres (jazz fusion, world music, heavy metal, etc.) are too numerous to be all mentioned in this short presentation.

Bill Bruford

He is now retired. He was the original drummer of Yes, the English rock band. In 1972, Bill Bruford quitted Yes to join King Crimson for personality conflicts (and/or his passion for jazz) reasons.

Greg Lake

Greg Lake was part of the original King Crimson. In 1970, he left the band to form ELP. He became the L, or if we'd prefer the producer/singer/guitarist/bassist, in Emerson, Lake & Palmer. I suggest listening at Epitaph (song #2), this should give you a good idea of the amazing voice he used to have (he died on December 7, 2016, almost exactly one year to the day ago).

John Wetton

John Wetton deceased at the beginning of the year, on January 31, 2017. He was a songwriter, bassist, and the fourth lead singer to join the band in 1972. The other groups he has been part of include: Asia, Uriah Heep, Roxy Music, etc.

Adrian Belew

Adrian Belew is an American record producer, songwriter, guitarist, and the longest lasting singer of King Crimson. He has also worked with other prominent musicians such as Frank Zappa, David Bowie, Talking Heads, etc. He is featured in Three of a Perfect Pair (song #9) & Neal and Jack and Me (song #8) down below.

Despite the fact that King Crimson have often participated in the Montreal International Jazz Festival, here in my hometown, I have never seen them play live.

Who knows, maybe one day? For the moment, let's get down to those 10 fav songs!

I've always thought of these guys as pre-Mastodon with a lot more bells and whistles.

THIS IS MY FAVORITE COMMENT ON STEEM. Can't even tell you how many times KC comes up as an influence for the intelligent branch of today's modern metal scene!!

I still live in the court of the Crimson King. Unrivaled.

Where is Lizard?
