Peak 13: Mt. Tibig
Mt. Tibig
With its jump off at Hulong Banalo in Lobo, Batangas, Mt. Tibig rises to an altitude of 563 meters above sea level. It's located near the sea along with five other mountains (see photo below) namely, Mt. Banoi, Nagpatong Peak, Bangkalan Peak, Mt. Naguiling and Mt. Daguldol (the mountain I climbed the previous year). The side trips for this climbs would be none other than swimming in the beaches nearby.

My First Time Being an EL
![13880326_1190665004318195_6306599199899449106_n.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmUCrDQgAXZbFdB3Zhe2QkxwGshH5LhxzdpBEE84Z5TcZ3/13880326_1190665004318195_6306599199899449106_n.jpg)
Being an expedition leader (EL) is such a great responsibility and to be able to organize a climb on your own is a huge success for an inducted member of a club. The EL's job are to do the following:
1. Create an itinerary for the climb and make sure to follow it as the circumstances may allow. Improvise if needed.
2. Contact the local municipality/barangay and the guides.
3. Estimate the expenses to generate the safest budget possible.
First LNT Principle is to plan ahead and prepare. As every hiker should do, planning for the climb is essential for a problem-free climb. But for an expedition leader, his climb preparations should be twice as the participant hiker because he is in-charge of a lot of things and what he's planning isn't just a climb but should be considered an event. It should be organized, smooth and have back-up plans if necessary.
4. Remind the members of what to bring before the climb and what to do and what not-to-do during and after the climb proper.
As the EL of the group, it is his duty to create a checklist of what to bring for the climb, check the weather on the day of the climb and constantly remind it to the participants. He should also review the 7 LNT Principle to the participants especially if they are beginners. (Usually, when the mountaineers are experienced, they already know the LNT Principle by heart and it's easier for the EL because everyone are used to climbing and would definitely be self-contained .)
5. Ensure the safety of every climber including himself.
This is the most important responsibility of the Expedition Leaders. They would be accountable for the lives of the climbers in their group; thus, safety among the members is the priority. He is the one who decides what is the best possible action in case an accident happens.
Mt. Tibig is the first climb I organized as an expedition leader for the school year's Mapúa Mountaineering's introductory climb and I was happy that my inducted member (IM) batchmates, Haggeo Perez and itay Erik Bumagat was there to support me. What would I do without the Plata y Siete!
Applicants backed out
It was really devastating to learn that the applicants that signed up for your proposed climb backed out a few days before the actual climb. I almost paid for the van with a capacity of 14-18 people, only to find out that there would only be 7 people in the climb with all the IM's included. Luckily, I prepared for Plan B. My batchmate, Erik was fine with bringing his vehicle a Toyota Hilux. I cancelled renting the van and proceeded with the personal vehicle.
There were 4 applicants only: Lawrence "Law" Adlawan, Ranielle "Kartos" Ledesma, Gian Carlo Magboo and Edrian De La Peña. I liked it better, though because we really had a solid bonding compared to a large group.

The Itinerary and Budget
The itinerary I was able to produce was for a dayhike climb. I contacted the local in-charged of the guides weeks before the climb proper. And I have to say this climb was the cheapest climb ever.

The Climb
The climb proper was a fun one. The applicants were jolly even under the heat of the sun. Mt. Tibig graced us with a fine weather and nobody was hurt. We were early than our itinerary. We went up in a continuous assault and when we reached the more leveled ground, we were in the peak in no time. The descent was even faster and we took our time by the beach playing cards before we went home back to Manila.

On our way home, a bizarre event happened.
We passed by a car accident. That morning, we were talking about road ghost stories in Batangas. On our way home, we were scared that our vehicle might stop in the middle of nowhere especially the uphill roads on the scary parts of the road in Batangas. Then, it happened. Erik's car suddenly broke down in a curve and won't start. That's when we saw another car which was off the road.

The locals said that the car lost its brakes while going downhill and almost fell to the river down below. It took minutes before our car started again and Erik advised us to walk uphill so it won't be heavy for the Hilux. Luckily, a truck passed by and we hitched a ride just to reach the top of the steep road instead of walking.

Thank you @honeysingh! The photos really made the post seem long but it's actually not. Hmmm. Your question might offend people, y'know. I'm just saying. It sounds improper but I get what you want to ask. What I don't understand is your purpose.
