How to Love Difficult People



I’ve been in many tricky situations in my life, impossible situations at times. At times I’ve experienced angry people, stressed people, manipulative people. Through it all, I’ve mastered some important things about dealing with people.

  1. Let go. Often when there is a change in people for the worse, an energetic shift, it is because they are having an internal process. Giving space brings detaching from the situation for both parties.
  2. Compassion. Many people can and do want to change. An open heart creates a space in which people can come to a realization without being pressured.
  3. Objectivity We can take a step back from our own emotions by observing them. In that way we remove some of our filters such as being overly naive or suspicious
  4. Clarity Sensitive people can get confused if they feel emotions from others. By finding clarity we can know what is and isn’t us
  5. Letting go of Projection If we are aware of our projections, the emotions in us that we blame others for, they lose some of their steam.

In this process, we go through a flow which I call the Basic Rhythm of Verbal Dancing

The Basic Rhythm

  • Expanding:we take a step back from the way in which we’re emotionally involved, and we see a bigger picture. We detach from our old way of relating, our projections and identifications.
  • Breathing by breathing consciously, we start to feel our own feelings, become more aware of then. We can also follow our heart more through connecting to it.
  • Landing we embrace new qualities such as Compassion, Objectivity and Clarity.

Thank you for leading me to your post. Exciting to meet someone that has actually written a book about such a topic. I've been working on these ideas for a while now, and definately agree that breathing practices can help reconnect you. I've recently been working on circular breathing, to breath in on a four second and out four seconds. I loved the idea of being mindful of the gap between in/out breathe. According to the book I was reading, that is where most of the random thoughts sneak in, so I've been working on that whenever I feel out of balance. (and whenever I think of it).

But focusing on loving everything has help perhaps more in raising my energy.

Hi Marc, yes breathing is a great way to bypass the mind with all it’s thoughts. Through breathing we reconnect with our heart to find our TRUE purpose.
