8 Benefits of A Raw Vegan Fruitarian Diet
A raw vegan fruitarian diet can be said to consist of at least 80 % of raw fruits and in some cases vegetables, nuts, and seeds.
Let me tell you about some of the positive benefits of practicing a fruit-based diet. I write from my own experience and want to share some of my findings from eating a raw fruit diet.
1) Digestion
Fruit goes through our body with the least amount of effort and strain compared to all other foods.
Transit times are:
- 30 – 45 minutes for most fruits
- 40 – 90 minutes for most vegetables. Beans, lentils, dairy products
- Seeds take about 1.5 – 2 hours.
- Pork takes around 4 – 5 hours.
Less effort for your digestive system equals more energy for you, and therefore fewer calories are required to sustain your body. By eating fruit, you’ll also eliminate your food much more quickly without experiencing constipation. There won’t even be a bad smell when you’ve used the toilet after eating raw long enough. You’ll be sneaky like a ninja - no one will know you’ve been using the bathroom. In addition to releasing scentless poop, you’ll also have far less gas when you start eating what nature intended us to eat.
2) Taste
Nothing beats good-quality tropical fruit. The peculiar thing about fruit is that it’s best as it is―you don’t need any spices, cooking or processing to make it taste good. However, this is not the case with humanity’s typical diet; wherein almost everything is processed in some way, and salt is always added to make our food more flavourful and stimulative. Candy and desserts are only a poor imitation of fruit; no wonder why kids don’t want to eat non-sweet, bland vegetables - when what they really want is a sweet delicious fruit.
We tend to insist that children eat cooked vegetables because we think it’s healthy for them, and after a while, they start to forget about their natural love of fruit, towards believing whatever we impose upon them.
So what if we gravitate back towards our intuition? What if the food we’re meant to eat as a species isn’t something we figure out by counting calories or studying vitamins and minerals, but something we’re born with, like all other species on earth, we've know about the dislike of certain vegetables, fish too for a long time - When will we start to listen to the instinct of our own children?
“
Although man has included meat in his diet for thousands of years, his anatomy and physiology, and the chemistry of his digestive juices, are still unmistakably those of a frugivorous animal.
” ― Herbert M. Shelton, Food and Feeding
3) Simplicity
Fruit is simple: you collect, sometimes peel and then boom! You got a meal! You don’t need a kitchen, no need to prepare your food, or even cook it. You’ll free up a lot of time by switching to a raw food diet. And the best part is that you don’t even need to wash up after eating!
4) Hydration
Since fruit usually contains about 70 – 99% water, your hydration levels will improve dramatically upon switching to a raw diet. If you eat enough high water content fruit, you likely won’t need to drink any water throughout the day. There's a big difference between eating high water content foods compared to foods like bread, crackers, and meat. To give the body foods that are close to its own water content of 70 % can make a big difference in your overall well-being.
5) Breathing
The fruit diet is also referred to The Mucusless Diet, a book written by Arnold Ehret. When we stop exposing our inside to foods that our body perceives as toxic and irritating, our body doesn’t need to produce mucus to encapsulate and get rid of any unwanted toxins. You won’t wake up with a slimy throat, and your sinuses will tend to open up.
From my personal experience:
I’ve been struggling with closed sinuses since age twelve after a massive misuse of nasal spray. At around 17 years of age, I had surgery, but it didn’t help and my sense of smell was almost gone because of all the mucus I had accumulated. I stopped consuming dairy products, which helped a bit, but when I started to eat a raw fruit-based diet my sense of smell completely transformed. Now I smell things at a great distance and pick up on all kinds of forgottens smells. The airflow is open, no-more slimy throats and it's great to smell my environment again.
6) Mood
What a lot of people aren’t aware of is that what we eat has an enormous effect on our energy and mood. Cooked food that is high in fat with empty sugars is very addictive and habit-forming. There’s a reason why we have the term “comfort food,” which in my experience doesn’t solely refer to chocolates and sweets, but rather to almost all cooked foods that are high in fat, sugar and unhealthy additives. Cooked foods have the potential to be used as a comfort foods because they can for some people be very addictive, make us less energy-efficient, dull us down and tend to leave us craving more, especially if we use excess salt, sugars and other addictive substances in our foods.
After a meal of burgers and fries, we typically want just to lay down and watch TV. Conversely, after consuming a meal of fruit, we usually feel just as good or even better than we did before. For example, a person could easily go for a run right after a raw meal. In addition to giving us feelings of lethargy, eating heavy cookeded food often makes us crave dessert or other sweet foods after we’re done. This is because we haven’t met our body’s needs, which is mostly met with fresh sweet fruits! By eating only fruit, you’ll experience a more stable mood and higher energy levels. Fruit only contains what is good for us, and nothing of the bad stuff like sugar, salt, oils etc.. (mood swings are often based upon our unhealthy food addictions)
7) Clarity
On a fruit-based diet, you’ll clear the foggy clouds from your system, and you’ll start to regain more and more of your mental clarity. If you don’t believe me, try it out for yourself: eat only fruit for 30 days, and I’m convinced you’ll become sharper and more aware of yourself and your surroundings, putting you in a better position to react to life too! As we eat what our machinery is designed for, this is one of the positive effects that are automatically going to happen with time and consistency.
8) Health
- The percentage of American children and adolescents who are considered overweight or obese has tripled since 1970.
- More than 70% of adults across the US are diagnosed with a chronic disease.
- 360,000 Americans die every year from diseases directly related to obesity and unhealthy lifestyle choices.
Unfortunately, we’re a very unhealthy civilization. I’m not saying eating fruit will magically heal you from everything. It’s not so much about the fruit; it’s more about staying away from what influences our health negatively. When we eat our optimal diet, our bodies will have a chance to repair themselves because instead of the body’s energy being used to get rid of toxins, it can instead direct this energy towards digestion and deeper healing. A fruit-based diet is almost like slow-motion fasting; it doesn’t make the body go in the same cleansing state as fasting, but it creates the capacity to give attention to ailments and health issues in the body, since less energy is being needed for the digestive process.
“
Let food be thy medicine.
” – Hippocrates
Health is our natural state, not something we need pills or excessive amounts of vitamins to achieve. Every other species on this planet eats their species-specific diet―they all have the same body fat percentage and don’t have all of the human sicknesses that takes over our state of health. I believe a fruit-based diet can do miraculous things for our health and well-being.

I love fruit. Because I have such a sweet tooth, fruit is my go to in satiating that tooth. When I first went vegan, that was my concern (no desserts) but really a freshly cut pineapple satisfies my cravings more than chocolate cake ever did. Thanks for sharing ✌️
