What's on the menu?

Appetizer: An introduction

"A day without food is a day closer to starvation".

People love food but differently than I do. Not only do I cook, I'm always on the look out for the best ingredients and perfecting recipes and methods. I'd like to share my findings in stories, recipes and cooking methods. Give advice on everything food related and heck even none food related.

I'll give you some reasons why!

Food is made for sharing

On a warm summer evening mom is laying her final hand on tonight's dinner. She's already been in the kitchen for a few hours. With a gentle touch she tosses up the salad mixing it with a light vinaigrette she whipped up a moment ago. In the meanwhile the neighbours are enjoying the cherry scented breeze from the pie that is cooling off in the window frame.
When dinner is served her 14 year old glasses wearing kid takes place at the table as usual. Everybody is enjoying the anticipation of the home cooked meal. When mom has all plates dished up something strange happens.
The fucking kid is taking pictures of the food again....

Food is amazing. It is made with someone's time and effort with the purpose of sharing with the people near you physically, not digitally. To treasure the food in front of you and the company you are with at the moment is a great thing.
Competing with your friends for best looking dinner of random day of random year is less great..

Impress your friends with cooking skills instead of food pictures!

Doing and learning instead of watching and criticizing

Watching a Youtube video on how to forge a katana does not make you a Samourai hammersmith in the same way that watching experienced chefs ranting on dishes on Masterchef does not make you a good cook. Food trends are on the rise which makes knowledge of food cool to have. This is why people that are clueless portray their knowledge as if they compose El Bulli's menu on their Sunday afternoon when in the meanwhile they microwave eggs for breakfast.
When it comes to cooking the emphasis should be put on taste instead of criticism and doing instead of watching.

Culture and taste over company and convenience

With restaurants from different cultures emerging in every city out taste buds have been buzzed by exotic cuisines. It is amazing that you can satisfy your cravings for very specific foods everywhere you go. Convenience and money is what food manufacturers think as well. Messing up traditional recipes, putting random things in cardboard packages, pre-mixing powders and labeling them as authentic. Whenever I go to a store about 98% of all exotic ingredients is not even coming close to what you should be using.
Never have families in cultures perfected recipes passed these on from generation to generation so you could cook it without a clue in 5 minutes. It's not a bad thing but it's just good to know the way it was intended.
Using the best recipes with the best ingredients broadens your knowledge of food and helps you appreciate culture at the same time.

Hope you'll enjoy the content, I'll keep you guys posted!
