Headline: Transgender weightlifter Hubbard injured in competition

GOLD COAST, Australia — They said she was unbeatable.
They being the critics, but what they didn't mention was that New Zealand's transgender weightlifter Laurel Hubbard was just as vulnerable to injury as any other competitor.
The 40-year-old Hubbard withdrew from Monday's over 90-kilogram division after hurting her left elbow attempting a Commonwealth Games record lift of 132 kilograms in the snatch.
She had already cleared 120 kilograms with her first lift and was well ahead of Samoa's Feagaiga Stowers when she over-extended, and the bar traveled behind her shoulders.

Unlike the other articles on this topic I have posted about I find this more amusing than offensive. The difference is that in this case we are talking about adults and in the others they were targeting children. What this story shows is the utter absurdity of the proposition that someone saying they are a gender other than their sex actually makes them that gender. This absurdity has now been taken so far that they are letting men compete in women's weightlifting! And of course if you say anything about it then you are transphobic and what you are saying is hate speech and should be silenced. All of my posts on this topic have received downvotes with no comments and also angry comments that make it clear that the person didn't read past the headline before getting triggered. I find articles like this hard to read more than anything since they constantly refer to a man as "her", it's like Ayn Rand's Anthem that I read for @kafkanarchy84 book club recently, difficult to read due to intentional misuse of pronouns to try to push a political agenda. Except of course this article is presented as non-fiction while Anthem was presented as an allegory.

Hubbard's presence, and status as gold-medal favorite, was one of the more contentious topics of the Commonwealth Games.
Since Hubbard became eligible to compete in international events at the start of last year, her involvement has polarized views in weightlifting.

One of the more contentious topics? They are going to put that out there but not say what was more controversial than a man competing against the women? Really? Wow.

One wonders exactly how polarized the weightlifters are, have they polled the women from the competition to see how many want to compete against a man? They use the word "polarized" to suggest there are equal numbers on either side when that may or may not be true.

What the critics may have got wrong, though, was the public reaction.
At Carrara Sports Arena, Hubbard was second only to Australia's Deb Lovely-Acason in terms of crowd popularity when the athletes were introduced.

Did they have an applause meter or something? How did they determine that? How many well known "female" weightlifters are there in New Zealand? What does the crowd being stacked with people there to support this fellow have to do with whether it is fair to the women competing for a man to be allowed to compete?

Sure, the Gold Coast region has one of the highest concentrations of New Zealanders living in Australia, but the support for Hubbard was wider spread.
It's something Hubbard said she appreciated.

Well thank God he appreciates it that everyone is playing along with his delusion. Just as the Emperor appreciated how everyone complemented his finery.

Leading into competition, the Samoa's weightlifting head coach Jerry Wallwork said he was opposed to Hubbard competing at the games.
"A man is a man and a woman is a woman and I know a lot of changes have gone through, but in the past Laurel Hubbard used to be a male champion weightlifter," Wallwork was quoted as saying.

That's transphobic! What a bigot! How dare he! Frankly I am shocked the AP would reprint that sort of hate speech.

Paul Coffa, secretary-general of the Oceania Weightlifting Institute, took a more conciliatory line when questioned about Hubbard's transgender status.
"It is a very sensitive question. The fact is the government of New Zealand has given her a passport for a female," he said. "She's done everything according to the IOC rules."
The Commonwealth Games Federation also defended Hubbard's right to compete.
CGF chief executive David Grevemberg dismissed comments made by Wallwork.
"That's one individual's opinion and perspective ... there are probably plenty of opinions and perspectives," Grevemberg said. "The federation's position on this has been clear in terms of respecting the athlete's right to compete, the rules of the international weightlifting federation in terms of their eligibility conditions."
Grevemberg said what the International Olympic Committee was doing in regard to transgender athletes was still evolving but stressed Hubbard had met the qualification criteria.
"This is something that members have various opinions on and it's something the weightlifting community needs to have some robust debate, discussion, on," he said.

In other words, everyone is afraid to say the obvious, this decision by the IOC to allow transgender athletes is absurd and can only lead to the destruction of sports as we know it. Frankly I am not much of a sports fan so I don't care. I don't think I have ever watched any women's sports besides billiards and beach volleyball. It's funny, progressives once insisted that girls and women get equal funding for their sports programs because otherwise there would be no or few women's sports because people are not as interested in watching them and everyone accepted the fact that males and females are physically different and in many sports on a level playing field few or none of the females would be able to compete. I remember a few years ago a woman who was the best woman golfer joining the PGA to much fanfare and faring poorly. Apparently several have tried but failed, there is no rule against women playing in the PGA they just are not any that are physically strong enough to compete on par with the men. That's why they have a ladies' tee.

So what we are seeing already is the absurd outcomes to this farce: a man who is a women's weightlifting champion, a girl who is allowed to use testosterone and demolishes all the girls who are not allowed to use testosterone because they don't feel they are male, a male girl's track champion.

At this rate and if this is allowed to continue how long will it be until the WNBA is entirely men?

How long until all women's Olympic sports are women on testosterone battling against men?

Heck, maybe it's not a bad thing, they finally found a way to make women's sports interesting. Unless you are a cis-gendered female athlete, then you are pretty much out of luck.

This story is great, man enters woman's weightlifting contest and loses, reminds me of when Cartman pretended to be handicapped to compete in the Special Olympics and lost.
