Reflection

The arrival of a king in the likeness of David was a persistent longing among the people of Israel. In contrast to his successors, David was a great king, loved and remembered for generations. The prophet announces the arrival of a chosen King, consecrated by God just as David was. This Messianic King will arrive as a prince of peace filled with the Spirit of God (Yahweh) and with the truth of His word he will overthrow the oppressor and do justice to the weak. This King awaited by the people of Israel is Jesus, His weapon was not the sword but the truth contained in his words, his mission, to establish the kingdom of God among men for the end of evil and suffering in all its forms. In His announcement, Jesus tells us that his kingdom is present and that it will come. The kingdom becomes present in our hearts when we receive and welcome the announcement, and in our reality, when manifesting it through our actions. The kingdom of God will also "come", that is, one day it will settle definitively in the heart and in the very reality of all humanity, and His kingdom, that of Jesus, our messiah, will have no end. Let us receive and accept in our hearts the words of our Lord Jesus and let us make possible the kingdom of God among men. Amen.

Una rama saldrá del tronco de Jesé, un brote surgirá de sus raíces.
Sobre él reposará el Espíritu de Yavé,
espíritu de sabiduría e inteligencia
espíritu de prudencia y valentía,
espíritu para conocer a Yavé y para respetarlo,
y para gobernar según sus preceptos.
No juzgará por las apariencias
ni se decidirá por lo que se dice,
sino que hará justicia a los débiles
y defenderá el derecho de los pobres del país.

Reflexión

La llegada de un rey a semejanza de David era un anhelo persistente en el pueblo de Israel. En contraste con sus sucesores, David fue un gran rey, amado y recordado por generaciones. El profeta anuncia la llegada de un Rey escogido, consagrado por Dios tal como lo fue David. Este Rey mesiánico llegará como príncipe de paz lleno del Espíritu de Dios (Yavé) y con la verdad de Su palabra derribará al opresor y hará justicia a los débiles. Este Rey esperado por el pueblo de Israél es Jesús, Su arma no fue la espada sino la verdad contenida en sus palabras, su misión, instaurar el reino de Dios entre los hombres para el fin de la maldad y del sufrimiento en todas sus formas. En Su anuncio, Jesús nos dice que su reino está presente y que vendrá. El reino se hace presente en nuestros corazones al recibir y acoger el anuncio, y en nuestra realidad, al manifestarlo a través de nuestras acciones. El reino de Dios también "vendrá", es decir, un día se instalará de forma definitiva en el corazón y en la realidad misma de toda la humanidad, y Su reino, el de Jesús, nuestro mesías, no tendrá fin. Recibamos y acojamos en nuestros corazones las palabras de nuestro Señor Jesús y hagamos posible el reino de Dios entre los hombres. Amén.
