A few weeks ago an old friend wrote to me, we had not spoken for months, she had gotten my number through a mutual friend, so she contacted me and we began to write to each other and remember many things from student days. After laughing and catching up on so many stories, we fell on the subject of faith, she told me about her conversion and I, very excited, began to reflect with her about the kingdom of God and holiness ... and in that She interrupts me and explains that she believes in Christ but that she does not believe much in holiness, because she is tired of seeing people who talk a lot about God but their actions are not consistent with what they preach ... I kept silent and did not I answered immediately, the matter was spinning in my head one day, I wanted to give you a good answer ... the next day the scene in which Peter denies being a follower of Jesus came to my mind ... Then I understood it, At first glance, it is logical to ask how can Peter be a saint of God and the stone on which the Church is built, if he has reached the point of denying Jesus Christ three times? Peter's actions were contrary to what he preached, because he had said to Jesus "Lord, I am willing to go with you to prison and to death" (Luke 22, 33) but his actions at that time proved otherwise ... At this point, who could believe anything to Pedro ... my friend was also at this point, in her, the idea of ​​holiness is synonymous with perfection, and failing is not perfect, so how is it possible to be holy ... . We will get the answer in two places, first in the phrase "he wept bitterly" (Lk 22, 62) Peter cries because he becomes aware of his weakness and his sin, Peter not only cries, Peter repents, the proof is in His perseverance because unlike Judas, Peter, repentant, returns to the arms of the Lord, which leads us to think that holiness requires recognizing ourselves as weak and sinful, requires repentance and metanoia, that is, the ability to reflect, repent and reorient life and own actions and thoughts do towards the good, towards Christ, trusting in His grace and His mercy. The second key to understanding holiness in Christ Jesus is, in my opinion, in John 21, 15-17 where Jesus wanted, out of love and mercy, for Peter to repair the sin of triple denial by confirming three times that he loved him. .. This key is, in my opinion, the greatest, we will only become holy, "perfect", not by our actions, but by the grace and mercy of God and by our hearts, because if in our hearts we are sorry sincerely and we remain faithful to Jesus for the purpose of amendment, Christ grants us the grace of holiness out of mercy and love, if out of weakness, doubt, fear or ignorance we fall into sin, let us not be discouraged, let us repent of our sins, let us reconcile with the Lord and continue to embrace the treasure of faith, hope and love and the precepts of our Lord Jesus. If we persevere in all these things one day we will reach by grace the long-awaited closeness to God, holiness. I told my friend all these things and invited her not to justify her disbelief with the sin of others, each one will render an account of all their actions, it is better to look at our own sins and repent with the purpose of amendment, it is better to be consistent With what we preach than to be aware of the faults of others, it is better to aspire to holiness and make an effort than not to believe in it.

Reflexión

Hace unas semanas atrás me escribió una vieja amiga, teníamos meses sin hablar, ella había conseguido mi numero a través de una amiga en común, así que me contactó y comenzamos a escribirnos y a recordar muchas cosas del tiempo de estudiantes. Después de reír y ponernos al día con tantas historias, caímos en el tema de la fe, ella me contó acerca de su conversión y yo muy emocionado comencé a reflexionar con ella acerca del reino de Dios y de la santidad... y en ese punto me interrumpe y me explica que cree en Cristo pero que no cree mucho en eso de la santidad, pues está cansada de ver gente que habla mucho de Dios pero sus acciones no son coherentes con lo que predican... yo guardé silencio y no contesté al momento, el asunto se quedó dando vueltas en mi cabeza un día, quería darle una buena respuesta... al día siguiente vino a mi mente la escena en la que Pedro niega ser seguidor de Jesús... Entonces lo entendí, a primera vista es lógico preguntarse ¿cómo puede ser Pedro un santo de Dios y la piedra sobre la cual se construye la Iglesia, sí ha llegado al extremo de negar a Jesucristo tres veces? las acciones de Pedro fueron contrarias a lo que predicaba, pues él había dicho a Jesús "Señor, estoy dispuesto a ir contigo a la prisión y a la muerte" (Lucas 22, 33) pero sus acciones en ese momento demostraron lo contrario... en este punto, quién podría creerle algo a Pedro... mi amiga también estaba en este punto, en ella, la idea de santidad es sinónimo de perfección, y fallar no es de perfectos, entonces cómo es posible eso de ser santos... la respuesta la conseguiremos en dos lugares, primero en la frase "lloró amargamente" (Lc 22, 62) Pedro llora porque se hace consiente de su debilidad y de su pecado, Pedro no sólo llora, Pedro se arrepiente, la prueba está en su perseverancia pues a diferencia de Judas, Pedro, arrepentido, vuelve a los brazos del señor lo que nos lleva a pensar que la santidad exige reconocernos débiles y pecadores, exige arrepentimiento y metanoia, es decir, capacidad reflexionar, arrepentirse y reorientar la vida y las propias acciones y pensamientos hacia el bien, hacia Cristo, confiando en Su gracia y en Su misericordia. La segunda clave para entender la santidad en Cristo Jesús se haya, a mi parecer, en Juan 21, 15-17 donde Jesús quiso, por amor y misericordia, que Pedro reparara el pecado de la triple negación al confirmar tres veces que le amaba... Esta clave es, a mi entender, la más grande, sólo llegaremos a ser santos, "perfectos", no por nuestras acciones, sino por la gracia y la misericordia de Dios y por nuestro corazones, porque si en nuestro corazón estamos arrepentidos sinceramente y seguimos fieles a Jesús con propósito de enmienda, Cristo nos otorga la gracia de la santidad por misericordia y por amor, si por debilidad, por duda, por miedo o por ignorancia caemos en pecado, no nos desanimemos, arrepintámonos de nuestros pecados, reconciliémonos con el Señor y sigamos abrazados al tesoro de la fe, la esperanza y al amor y los preceptos de nuestro Señor Jesús. Si perseveramos en todas estas cosas un día alcanzaremos por gracia la tan anhelada cercanía a Dios, la santidad. A mi amiga le dije todas estas cosas y la invité a no justificar su incredulidad con el pecado de los demás, cada quién rendirá cuenta de todas sus acciones, más vale fijarnos en nuestros propios pecados y arrepentirnos con propósito de enmienda, más vale ser coherentes con lo que predicamos que estar pendiente de las faltas de los demás, más vale aspirar a la santidad y esforzarnos que no creer en ella.
