Reading

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort; who comforteth us in all our affliction, that we may be able to comfort them that are in any affliction, through the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. For as the sufferings of Christ abound unto us, even so our comfort also aboundeth through Christ.

Reflection

Paul, an itinerant, persecuted and sick apostle, implies to the Corinthian community (somewhat gentrified) that they too would experience the comfort of God if they had to suffer. Comfort is a sign that allows us to know and feel that God acts in us, that he is not indifferent to our suffering and that his presence accompanies us even in the most difficult moments of our lives. The truth of the risen Christ emerges in times of difficulty to comfort us and fill us with hope, it takes us out of the swamp of despair and reminds us that, as the song says, "in the end what will come will be much better." If we endure the moments of trial with faith, hope and love, these will be nothing more than blessings, purifying instances that will bring us closer to holiness, to the lap of the Lord.

Lectura

Bendito sea el Dios y Padre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, Padre de misericordias y Dios de toda consolación, el cual nos consuela en toda tribulación nuestra, para que nosotros podamos consolar a los que están en cualquier aflicción con el consuelo con que nosotros mismos somos consolados por Dios. Porque así como los sufrimientos de Cristo son nuestros en abundancia, así también abunda nuestro consuelo por medio de Cristo. (2 Corintios 1, 3-5)

Reflexión

Pablo, apóstol itinerante, perseguido y enfermo, da a entender a la comunidad de Corintios (algo aburguesados) que ellos también experimentarían el consuelo de Dios si les tocara sufrir. El consuelo es un signo que nos permite saber y sentir que Dios actúa en nosotros, que no es indiferente a nuestro sufrimiento y que su presencia nos acompaña hasta en los momentos más difíciles de nuestras vidas. La verdad de Cristo resucitado emerge en los momentos de dificultad para consolarnos y llenarnos de esperanza, nos saca del pantano de la desesperación y nos recuerda que, como dice la canción "al final será mucho mejor lo que vendrá". Si Resistimos los momentos de prueba con fe, esperanza y amor, estos no serán más que bendiciones, instancias purificadoras que nos acercarán más a la santidad, al regazo del Señor.
