154,018 Total Team Reps (+4,547) - The Steemit Daily 100+ Rep Fitness Challenge - Day # 76 - 2/20/18

in #health6 years ago (edited)

15 Steemians (new max) for 4,547 reps today (new max) and 154,018 overall, done across 27 people from 8 countries in 75 days. @rmsbodybuilding thought of skipping his reps and made up for it with a whopping 1,050 reps. Amazing job all!

Calling whales, dolphins, and the fitness community to notice us busting our asses daily. Please join, help spread the word, or reward these dedicated Steemians for their daily workouts and blog posts. More people join because they've finally SEEN this series, and wish they did sooner. The Challenge: At least 100 honest reps of exercise every day. No excuses. No bullsh*t. Just actions, positivity, and results. Only post AFTER your reps are done.

  • If you can't contribute yet, try to eat natural foods and stay well hydrated without the sugar for now.

  • It's ok to start with a number you're comfortable with if you can't reach 100. You choose what exercises to do.

  • 30 minutes of dedicated brisk walking, running, or SPINNING (new) can count as 100 reps if you're unable to lift or need to rest.

  • I'll award 1 SBD to each person who reaches every 10,000 rep milestone. So far, 6 SBD have been paid out.

My Daily Challenge Completed - 105 reps:

-75 Calf Bar Raises (75 pounds)
-30 Bar Shrugs (75 pounds)

My Daily Assessment:

Finally back to my apartment and trusty 75 pound EZ curl bar for the foreseeable future. Baseball season is getting close, so I need to start looking at hip and core exercises. I need a few days to get back on my own schedule to have my energy levels back to what I'm used to. My body was very tired today.

Feedback from @mightpossibly (not a paid spokesperson):

"I find it deeply satisfying to do these reps, which is a big deal. I've always hated the gym and prefer to exercise at home. But I've lacked the discipline to do it. It sort of feels like I have gym buddies now, without the hassle of going to the gym."

Note: Some people have asked me about Transcendental Meditation which I do every day. So I included it in my blog post from yesterday and below. Link to TM description

A Healthy Mind and a Healthy Body

I find it most beneficial to keep both my mind and my body healthy and fit. For the mind, I have been practicing Transcendental Meditation and the advanced TM-Sidhis every day for the past 45 years. I find it helps keep my mind more alert and clear. It's also a technique for expanding consciousness and the mind will begin to naturally utilize more of its potential.

And while TM is just a simple mental technique, it has many profound benefits for the body. It clears out stress and tensions; improves mind-body coordination; can lower blood pressure; etc.

For best results one practices TM for 20 minutes twice a day - morning and evening sitting comfortably. No strain.

Transcendental Meditation is taught by qualified teachers in a course that takes about 1 to 1 1/2 hours a day for a week. If you are going to start you might as well make sure that you start correctly so a qualified teacher is a must. And yes I am a teacher of TM and I have taught a couple of thousand people....but I am mostly retired now. However, there are teachers of TM in every state of the US and in virtually every country around the world.

I'm putting a Link here to a recent 5 minute interview by Bob Roth, a Director of the TM organization. He gives a clear introduction to TM which I feel you will find to be helpful and enjoyable.

During TM the mind settles down effortlessly to a state of Pure Consciousness which is the source of thoughts.

I started doing TM around 1999 after I broke my back for the first time. The pain killers had stopped working and I was ready to roll over and die. During the TM sessions I would leave my body for up to 8 hours a day ( way too much according to the experts) but it was the only release I had from the intense pain.

TM literally saved my life. I don't have time to do it much any more but I still meditate every day and use a binaural beats generator to help me get to a deep level of meditation & get close to a TM level of meditation.

I'm sure I wouldn't be here now if it wasn't for Transcendental Meditation.

@khufu - wow! Your back must be OK now as you still are doing a lot of exercising and lifting.

Yeah, my back is fine up to a point @mgood. I know my limits, so if I stay within them I'm OK but if I make one wrong move I can put myself out of action for weeks. Any forward flexion with the slightest rotation even unloaded can be a real problem.

Whoa. Take care of yourself. It still sounds pretty serious.

Wow this is serious stuff. I really need to allocate some bandwidth to learning about this. Thanks for sharing and your kind gift.

This is great information and stopped me from thinking I could try to learn about it on YouTube. Looks like we're in the presence of a master here... Thanks for the info. I'd like to try learn these techniques properly when I know I'll have the time to dedicate to it.

Yes, do it when you can set aside the time....but....don't wait too long because then starting will be pushed to the back of your awareness as there are so many things to do that come up in life.

Where do you live? I'll guess the NY metro area.....probably NJ? I could tell you where you could learn TM. Actually you can attend a free introductory lecture without making the commitment to start.

Daily Challenge completed - 170 reps

Welcome to the club. That seems intense! Feel free to provide any supporting posts, etc..

As for calculating this, we typically have done 30 full minutes of walking or running for 100 reps, mainly for those who can't lift weights or are taking a rest day. Could you please let me know how long this trip took in hours so I can see how we can approach this?

I assumed 30 minutes =100.
I have records of my rides dating back 2 years. Should I just start today or would you prefer I give records back to January 1

Great. I only count going forward since all prior stats have been locked up and I need to keep it consistent for everyone else. In general every 30 minute mark has to be crossed to get credit (so an arbitrary 25 mins doesn't qualify). In this case today, I'm going to count this as a solid 400 reps. I appreciate what you're bringing to the table as the first fitness cyclist of the group (and for a great charitable cause). Thank you.

I understand. Only a full 30 minutes counts. Most of my rides are closer to 1 hour, 15 minutes. I also use an elliptical a few times a month and lift weights a few times per month.
