For a Friend
Pictures of a Son
Imagine that you live on the other side of the world from your family.
You are a mother and you live in South East Asia.
But your son lives in the US.
You want to see a picture of him, right?
That wish can be fulfilled if you happen to be on cool social media platforms like Steemit and Tsu before that. It was in the days of Tsu when I met my friend Sharon, also knows as @fitinfun. We both lived in San Diego - but guess what, we never managed to get together in person.
Then, when I joined Steemit, it not only had the feeling of Tsu - it had a hashtag #tsufamily. I clicked and found many old friends who had disappeared when Tsu suddenly shut down.
Sharon was one of them. Before I go on, here is another picture for you, Sharon! :)
We talked -as we all do here on Steemit, and I found out that she is living in Bankok now. but her son is still in San Diego.
Do you know what it feels like to be an ocean and more apart from your family?
I can and it is easy for me. When I was 23, I moved to the US and didn't know a soul. I had fun. But my poor mother worried herself sick. That was before the internet, Skype, Whatsapp, and all the other neat tools to stay in touch. A phone call was $ 5 a minute.
After becoming a mother myself and kids taking off to visit the world (luckily for me, they all came back), I really could relate to what my mom must have felt like. I emphasize with all parents who are far from their children and worry about them.
Even with today's tools of communication, it is not always easy. The internet can be down, phones break, all kinds of things can happen. Then it is nice to have a friend who can go and check on your kid and maybe bring them some goodies.
In this case, I was the friend. Here we are, kissed by the sun.
Showing mom that the transfer worked out.
And a happy smile.
Sharon wanted pictures. So, to finish off the request, a couple more for you, my friend.
Sorry about the shadows - I couldn't really see a thing when I took them with my phone.
Hope you can download them.
Much love to you, my friend!

Thank you so much for your help Marianne! Hopefully I can work something out in the future to make the transfer to USD easier, but for now it is just amazing that you are willing to help me out. I will come help with your garden soon, very excited about that. Happy New Year!
me too!! Excited about gardening together!! And maybe we can figure that transfer out together - I have no clue about that too :)
In the meantime, I love for you to join the freewriters. YOu can write absolute nonsense if you want :)
Yes, I was also on Tsu, but this is so much better.
Wonderful story, but more wonderful is that we have a technology to communicate.
Hi Tsu friend!! I have to say I have a special place in my heart for that platform. At least how it was in the beginning. And agree that I like Steemit better. It removes the downline aspect and the field is open! did you have the same name on Tsu?
want a beautiful story!!! It's amazing how Steemit makes this possible. As I Mom I too know I love to see photo's of my son just to know he is okay for that moment in time.
Such a relief! And he's smiling, so that is even better.
I hear you!!
I hear you.... for us it is the other way around... my mom stayed in Belgium and we are in SE-Asia.... 2 skype calls a week is what we do ;) And in 2.5 months they are coming on a visit! Nice of you to post these pics for your friend!
Skype is such a gift!!! And I am so glad that your parents come to visit! You will have a good time, I am sure.
Exciting times indeed! In 2 days 6 of our best friends arrive and in 2 months my parents... can't wait! Family and friends are the most important thing in life... cats and food second most important hehe.
So happy for you!! It is nice when people you love come and visit!!
Thank you, it was a real pleasure to read this story!!
My youngest son is not on the other side of the ocean, but he is on the other side of Ontario (1190 km away), and this Christmas he did not come home.
Unfortunately, I did not have any friend who
When talking to him on the phone I bragged about all the special dishes I made, he has told me:
That was completely heartbreaking to hear… I learned that living in a city is different, that no one is sharing any special dishes with their new neighbors.
Hopefully, soon he will have friends to celebrate with!! A lot of people far from home are creating their own circles to celebrate the holidays... Or maybe he can come home next year!

Aw! This is wonderful, Marianne! Thank you so much for the money run and for the photos.
Caleb told me he was getting fat, so I was really worried about that. But he just looks like he's put on a few pounds.
Thank you so much for all these smiles. This does my heart so much good :)
I am glad!! I offered him to garden with me... We shall see. Then, fresh food wouldn't be a problem...
I hope he will take you up on it. I know it would do him good. And he is good at it, so you will get some work done. I can always transfer some money and we can sweeten the pot for him lol :)
You are the best, Marianne.
So are you!! You are helping a lot of people!
We rock! LOL
These kinds of topic are ones that very close to my heart. Mom left to work outside country since I was 8 and now I'm 28. Name all difficulties of having no bth parents beside a child, I experienced that.
Life is tough but it also has ways to lighten up ur day like social media communications, photo sharing and now possible flight to take to finally hug mom this 2018! ❤
Oh @feye, I so hope that you get to hug your mom!!
Parents often have to make such hard decisions! It must have been so difficult for you. but you are right - at least now we have the internet to stay connected.
That's very true. I am a mom myself now, thus I now fully understand the sacrifices my mom did. Unconditional love is the best!
Thank you @mariannewest. Hugs received. :)♥
See you around! ;)
Unconditional love is the best!!
See you and all the best to all of you. To a Happy 2018 :)
