Dining Out - Fratelli Famous @ The Bavarian

Fratelli Famous @ The Bavarian

As part of the recent Sydney meetup where a few of us gathered at The Bavarian, there was also food and drinks had.

@imperialaussie and I started off with a couple of Löwenbräu Original "pints" (actually 500 ml instead of ~475 ml for an actual pint) while conversation was happening and we saw if any others would turn up. Before we got some food, a second round was ordered where I switched to their cider, which is from Good Pickins. Löwenbräu is quite reliable and easy to drink, and the Good Pickins was very easy to drink and quite light on the apple flavour.

Eventually I stopped getting distracted from getting food (mostly by talking and answering questions from the other attendees) and made the decision to get pizza instead of something from the bar menu (though they are in the same room). I ordered their Meat Inferno (after a fair bit of deliberation), which looked interesting. It was quite a delicious pizza, and somehow I managed to devour the whole thing before we headed off which doesn't happen very often for me. It wasn't because it was a small pizza either, as it certainly wasn't. I think I was just a bit hungry, it was quite good, and I didn't feel like getting a take away box just for 1-2 slices to take home on the train. Easier to eat it all.

If you're a fan of 'tons of toppings', then this isn't going to be a pizza for you, but it certainly doesn't lack for the flavour of all the toppings it does have, and each slice was very similar in coverage of each of them, allowing for a consistent taste throughout. Asides from one slice that only had a sliver of the salami. I didn't notice that the salami was spicy either, but I tend not to notice that 'hot salami' is hot either.

The base was quite well cooked and tasty also, which is always a good start for a pizza. Toppings can cover a lot of flaws in the base, but if t he base can speak for itself, you don't need to drown it out with too many things. A good example of a thin base wood fired pizza.

My one complaint is that having been looking at the two locations websites, it would have been nice to get the pizza and beer deal(s) that didn't seem to be advertised anywhere on location.
