Hunting was the chief means of survival for man in this age. It was an endless hunt for food. The cave paintings of that period show that they had some religious beliefs and customs, which they thought would bring them food. The pictures were painted in hidden dark places. The people may have believed that the pictures would help them to catch real animals or they thought that drawing the animals would multiply their number and there would be plenty to hunt. The men of this period lived in caves. They made sharp stone tools like axe, hammer, scraper etc. They learnt to track animals following their footprints. As people developed language, they could communicate their plans to one another. They used fish hooks to catch fish from rivers. Now they did not wander about aimlessly. They know where animals would frequently came. Thus they began to live in one place, in small groups.
