Freewrite Day 586 Chapter
I’m writing a book thanks to freewrite. I have already published four books on Amazon Kindle, so I know how to do it. I have three chapters done already based on various prompts.
The topic for this book is the trip I took with my 3 year old son and elderly mother who was suffering from early stages of un-diagnosed dementia at the time.
She lived 1000’s of miles away and this is was one of the few times my mom saw my son. We drove in a rental car from San Diego to San Francisco in about 10 days and then stayed for 4 days in that big city before flying back south.
It’s the last thing I did before I knew I had a genetic heart condition that was going to kill me quick. I was sick on the trip and thought I had bronchitis. I went to the doctor a week after we got back. Instead I had congestive heart failure. My regular doctor called me to say:
“You have something very bad wrong with your heart. It is not beating properly. I've scheduled you for an ultrasound and then the cardiologist can see you in two weeks. Do not lift or carry your son or anything heavy. Don't exert yourself at all. If you feel like you will black out, get down to the ground so you will not get hurt.”
Then my new life was that I was supposed to die in 6 months and leave my son an orphan. I was told to make a will and find him a guardian which I did.
But I did not die in six months.
Instead I am still here and fairly healthy 25 years later. Every day since my diagnosis has been a gift I do not take lightly.
When I was diagnosed, that started a two year nightmare of tried and failed drug therapies before I finally almost did die. I got the pacemaker implanted that actually did save my life when my blood pressure was reading 25 over 45.
For the prior two years I had been too scared to have surgery with its bad failure rate, and kept refusing. My blood flow to my brain was so poor by that time, I had dementia myself.
Later my cardiologist told me that when I finally signed the papers for the surgery, I was not competent, and that I should have had a guardian. But he was sure the pacemaker would work, and the situation was critical, and so he skipped the guardian part.
During all of that time, I was grateful for having taken that long trip up the coast with my mom and son. However difficult it was, at least they would know each other if I was gone.
My post is for the #freewrite daily challenge by @mariannewest. Freewrite is a great way to post on steemit when you do not think you have the time, or talent, or anything to say. It’s a great way to start regular posting on steemit. I know you can do this too! Here is Marianne’s freewrite prompt post for today. Give it a try and surprise yourself.

I agree the doctors make an estimate but do not have the last word.
