Running Matters #8

Thanks everyone for sticking through this week with me, I think you’ll have noticed that the quality of my posts this week was more like what that you were used to from me. In general I had a great week, I managed really well juggling most responsibilities and I also ran 3 days in a row for the first time. I've even taken on 2 more things this week:

  1. I've become a guest writer for the SteemTradeCards project and they launched my first card on Tuesday, which was about @lukestokes. It was really fun to do this and I got to interview and know a fascinating person. Thank you @kus-knee & @airmatti for letting me do this.
  2. I've joined the SmartSteem team after I've been waving their flag for a while in my posts as you're all aware off and I'm now a reviewer for them. So a big thank you to @therealwolf for letting me join the team and I hope I can do more for them in the future. I'm a big believer of the concept.

the first Card I helped create @lukestokes

@lukestokes, thank you for your patience and time for me. You made it very pleasant for me and it was really interesting getting to know you. Thank you for being my first 😉

The week was really going well by all standards until yesterday afternoon. An hour before I would normally leave the office, I was called into a meeting room (by e-mail). I was totally unprepared and had no idea what to expect. The e-mail was only addresses at me and I noticed that no one else was making their way to the meeting room. When I got there, I found my line-manager there with our HR person ...

I had no idea what to expect, so I figured I'll let them handle whatever they want to handle. I'll put my brain to slow, let it take everything in, so that I can respond appropriately. I did not know if they needed me to do something, get someone or anything else, so I didn't even take a seat until I was asked to. That's when they told me the news, things had been going bad with our department lately, we were not receiving any support from the main group and parts of the business were already being outsourced, even to the competition, so what they had to tell me was not a surprise, but it was a shock that it was so quick.

To cut a long story short, I've had my noticed served, which is something very easy in Switzerland. I can't say that I'm unhappy about this, but I do have my responsibilities towards my family. I will go deeper into this and what it means to me and us as a family in a post next week and I'll keep you up-to-date about my developments in the upcoming months.

My highlight of the week!

IMG_1848.JPG

As you've read above it's been quite a week, but the highlight was what I posted yesterday about, despite everything that had happened in the previous weeks we managed to spend quality time together as a family on the weekend.

What was the hardest day last week?

I guess I don't have to explain why yesterday was the worst day last week. Although in general it was a good week, that is the worst moment of the week due to that announcement.

My posts last week:

So what am I planning for next week?

In the coming week I will make some decisions with regards to what I'm going to do, not that I'll be without a job in just over 3 months time. I'll need to amend my CV, look at doing some courses, register for unemployment benefits and in the mean time also work on my other job.

So what I'm putting down below is not set in stone and depending on how busy the day will be I might have to be flexible or change what I wanted to do.

Sorry to read about your job @wolfje. One door closes and another one opens.

An organized, interesting and bright minded person like you will always fare well!

Thank you very much for your kind words. I'm full of confidence about the future. Worst case I have 2 years of paid leave (70% but still 😉) In the mean time I'll continue to focus on Steem(it).

Good luck on your next career adventure. I hope it’s a step up towards your goals and you look back thinking this was the best thing that could have happened to you. It was my pleasure to be involved. I’m still geeking out about having my very own Steem card. :)

Thank you very much. You've been a really cool person to do a card about as well, your attitude reminds me in some bits about my own thoughts about life and this is only another step to help me bring my life in a direction that I really enjoy pursuing. I see this as an opportunity and either way I'll have 2 years to find myself a new job and I want to do a programming course now to launch a new career, that's where my real passion lies.

Fantastic! Programming, in the future, will be like talking. It'll be a required skill for many, IMO.

I'm trying to orient myself now with regards to the appropriate courses, do you have any suggestions what to look for?

Hmm... Well, I'm mostly self-taught. Though I did take computer science in college, the real learning happens by just doing. Pick something you want to learn how to build and start building it. I think one of the first big projects I did for myself was a guestbook (back when those were all the rage). I designed the database, learned some PHP, and figured out the JavaScript/HTML to make it happen. I probably followed some tutorial at the time, but again, it all depends on what you want to build.

What a bad day indeed. Hope all the best for you in the new projects and jobs to come.

Thanks bud, this is a new beginning!

Late but sincere: good luck with your next job! The best is yet to come!

Thanks, I know that as well. It's just annoying as I have a family to look after.

Hey @wolfje here is my comment..

Hey bud, thanks for the face-message. That's really sweet. I hope I haven't given anyone the impresison that this is going to get/let me down, it's not. I see this as an opportinunity and I will go deeper into this in my post next week once I've had some time to put everything in order/perspective. But as I've said to a few others in the comments already, I have some options I want to explore and worst case I have 2 years to find myself a new job 😉

I’m sorry for your job. What a bad week and still you have the motivation to blog... if I’m down I don’t feel like writing anything...

Congrats to the other two achievements!

Congrats to the other two achievements! Keep it up and stay strong 👍💪

I see this as a necessary step, I was there for 5 years and it was my first job in CH. I needed to get my feet on the floor. In the meantime I got the Swiss-pass, 5 years experience and understand Mundart, so I have great opportunities besides my personal plans. Thank you for your support and in the worst case I have 2 years to find myself something new 😉

Well, at least you can keep yourself busy with blogging. I remember once I was 4 month out of job in Germany, and after 3 weeks without working I already was fed up of sitting around. But that was 12 years ago. I am not sure I would feel the same now... 😂

I hate sitting around though. I've been unemployed before and it was never long, but now I'm older and I have a family.

Wolfie my friend. I'm sorry to hear it. You always will have my support in anything. You have brought me intonl this amazing world of steemit and have nothing but the utmost appreciation and respect. If there's anything. I can do please don't hesitate.

I doubt it will take you long to accomplish your new goals though. You are very intelligent and have amazing people skills.

Thanks for your lovely words, I do whatever I can. I see this as a great opportunity and one that was necessary. Stay tuned, good things are heading this way.

Awww, so sorry about the announcement! :(
But as someone wrote above, one door closes, another opens... who knows what's behind Door no. xx...
When I read your intro, I was just composing my reply ~ that ahaaa... no wonder I haven't seen you around for awhile... :) But it is good that they are happy places you like to be and things you like to do.
Look forward to your revealing what's behind Door xx... ;)
Cheers and have a good weekend with the family!

Thank you! Yes, if you've seen some posts of me in the previous weeks/month we've had a few family problems and then I'm working on several projects here on Steemit, so barely any time to show my face in qurator anymore. Especially as a reviewer for Smartsteem, that occupies any available minute as well.
Good things are heading my way, stay tuned!

Definitely will watch out for your news, my friend... All the best! And have a great week ahead too!

I'm sure that this is a door closing, window opening situation. Everything about you screams positivity and productivity. Whatever you're next career is, I'm sure you will be nothing short of something amazing

Thank you and stay tuned, I have plenty of plans and opportunities for the forseeable future.

I am all in, it’s great project
