⭐️ The Wheel of Fortune and the Ups and Downs in Life - Tarot Friday # 11 about Destiny

in #art7 years ago

Its been a while since our last visit to Temple of the Secrets, so I figured it might be good, to give a little (re)introduction to the series.

Back in the 1990s I ran a museum in my hometown in southern Germany. The theme was ancient Egypt, and I had tried to find or at least create a connection between this theme that appeared to be a bit "exotic" in this area and today's Bavaria. Since there is no real connection between ancient Egypt and our area, and we couldn't find conclusive evidence, that the Egyptians learned brewing beer from our ancestors, something different had to be found.

By chance I discovered Tarot. A deck of cards, created by ancient Egyptian priests, to preserve their knowledge for all eternity. Ok, I know its also possible, that the cards were made by alien reptilians to bring down the pope and that there are a few hundred other stories about the origin. For me the Egyptian story worked perfectly and today's card has a somewhat special position.

As you can see, in the Temple of the Secrets, there are three rows of glass paintings, with the major arcana, the trump cards of the Tarot in the middle row:

In the bottom row, I illustrated a mostly fictional story, of how the Tarot cards were created in ancient Egypt and how they later found their way to Europe and also to southern Germany, were similar decks are still used to play cards today.

"X - The Wheel of Fortune" corresponds with the part of my story, where the cards were actually created. The whole work is unfinished, but I'm adding this, to give you an idea, of what the "chapter" of the story looks like:

The "Wheel of Fortune" represents the everlasting up and down of life and a constant stream of new challenges. It seems, as if we are to meet the sphinx in every turn, which gives us a task that appears unsolvable. That's when we feel like being thrown into the down turn, but here we also learn, that there is always sunshine after the rain. We are taught, that life doesn't follow a straight line, and that the ups and downs are always a natural part of it.

To find out your Personal TAROT Card, just add day, month and year of your date of Birth:

dd + mm + jjjj = xxxx.

Now add the four digits of the resulting number:

x + x + x + x = nn

If the resulting number is greater than 22 please add n + n again.
Any result equal to or smaller than 22 is your personal number with 22 representing 0

Oh I do love this! Due to my spiritual beliefs, Rose Croix, I am drawn to anything with an Egyptian theme!

So glad you like it! Not familiar with Rose Cropic.. can you enlighten me? I love ancient Egyptian art :-)

Sorry Rose Croix, autocorrect always plays a number on me lol. I’m a student/member of Rosicrucianism, been one for a couple of years now.

Haha... happens to me too. In a way I thought so, but I wasn't 100% sure. Thank you for making it clear :-)

Ok, i was already missing those.

Having in mind we are in constant motion and we never are actually Up or Down but rather in a constant mix of those too. Our body however helps us to define our position in this constant change by injecting different chemicals into brain that tells our position at a certain point of our lives.

While theoretically we in a super position all the time, it's just those small markers that tell the course of action we need to take depending on or current position.

Like sphinx that gives us new challenges at each point, or pope, or lizard men. Who we think it is is just an illusion created by our brain that allows us to easier visualize.

Your particular piece of art allows us to visualize it even easier. With your choice of version how you see it, we can replace the symbols with our own, but the essence remains the same.

Great work. Love as usual.

What an awesome comment, don't know, how I could have missed it. Great interpretation of the theme... you actually take it to the next level!

You did the hard part :) I just chit chat :)

It takes a keen eye to see all that and a sharp mind to put it together... pretty brilliant for chit chat :)

It takes so much more to think about it, to visualize it, to put it on glass and all in reverse :)

this is so cool, the design of the room you installed in is amazing too!
so well done!

I know nothing about Tarot. My number is seven, what does that mean?

It means we got the same number 😀

It represents activity and a sense of adventure. Someone with an agile mind, curious, ready to venture out to discover something new...

I look at these things in a rather playful way though, although it is interesting, particularly when you see your personal Tarot card together with your horoscope and Chinese horoscope... that way, your "Chariot" can be a luxurious Jaguar or a Ferrari, even a truck, depending on the other influences... I for instance always preferred stylish over loud. But I'm a Libra after all...

I'm sure, there are enough people who know a lot more than I do about Tarot. To me it was mostly interesting as a sort of "philosophical" system. That's why I like the approach of looking at it as the "journey of the fool", in essence the adventure of a human life.

great work @reinhard-schmid, I bet it looks astonishing in real :) and here is another -seven - card person :)

I used one of your past posts as inspiration for a story. (Update - oops, I made a mistake.) Thought I'd post a link for your convenience.

As always, I enjoy your updates. May your work continue to inspire. -- I believe your work is inspirational as well -- even if I got the source wrong. Sorry about that.

Thanks a lot for the link! I saw that story, but it was hard for me to figure out, particularly since I couldn't find a translation for "chineoid".

Plus, I'm afraid, that you might be talking to the wrong guy here... The painting is by Peter Gric. Met him two days ago at an opening.

I always enjoy your writing and your comments are a real highlight, as you have such an extraordinary way with words... feels embarrassing to be able to reply only in such an inadequate manner :-/

My mistake. I see talented painters and my mind goes blank :)

Your talents are worthy of a story as well.

"Chineoids" are just a term I made up on the spot that refers to "nanomachines" or "nanites". Small mechanisms that can replicate materials or destroy/absorb things.

Aren't they from a science fiction novel or a movie? Something rings in my ears when I hear "nanites" - please, help me remember. Your term "Chineoids" though is more fluent with my tongue. :)

I've read "nanites" in different stories, so that's probably why. I can't recall precisely where, but its part of the hard-science/cyberpunk kind of genre.

I have no idea if "Chineoids" is truly original, I just came up with it for the story. I haven't researched the term to see if its been used before. I wouldn't be surprised if someone had made the same kind of mash-up.

Just did a search - my story comes up first on google for "chineoids". On duckduckgo it comes up with something close - a term for sea urchins.

I guess it is original. Well, what do you know. That's interesting.

:) good, eh? When you came up with something original.

Round and round it goes.
Where it stops, nobody knows.

But it rimes :-)

another master peace! And I do still remember that I am the High Priestess. :) in Chinese I am a "dog". Have you a recommendation for a webiste with Chinese horoscope explanations?

Thank you. So, you are the High Priestess of Justice. That's the first thing that jumps to my mind with "dog". An upright and straight forward personality with an extraordinary sense of justice. Someone who does not only notice, when something isn't right or unfair, but also does something about it...

Good website? Its been too long, since I researched these things, so I really don't know...

that fits somehow ... :-) I like to do mediation. Getting between two fighting parties. But only wit assignment. your sign also serves the measuring quality, yes?

Well, in Chinese horoscope I'm a "Rat"..hehe.. more like horrorscope by western interpretations. But it actually fits me... person who makes the best of things

Ancient Egypt always gives me the chills... for they knew far more than we are being told today.... and I do believe that out there somewhere, someone knows all the answers... & I have a very funny feeling it all originates here among the most wise of civilization.

Again, a very interesting piece you bring ...I find it quiet fascinating also, that our own 'trump' card is in, and running America.. was it foreseen..

The tarot is far more deeper than we think...

Sorry, looks like I missed your beautiful comment.. thank you very much, as always! I have meet people with amazing "supernatural" talents, but reliably predicting the future I don't think is possible. I like Tarot for different reasons, like getting to know the self..

Again the movement in your pieces just speaks to me so deeply.

Glad you can relate to my work like that, that's the highest you can achieve as an artist :-)

Ok, so again a brilliant name change! Because of the German connotation with happiness, which is not so easily associated with "Fortune" (always that money aspect first; tv doesn't help, with its Wheel of Fortune shows!).
Next, it may sound super embarassing on my behalf, Tarot afficcionado that I am, but I never, or at least not as consciously as now, noticed the Alchemical symbols, Mercury, Sulfur, Water, Sal, in this card, also traditionally present. Splendid how they shine golden out at us here!! That whole accentuation of the Alchemical Process THAT IS the rota, tora, Tarot - Tao path - road in your amazing Temple of Secrets is just completely spot on. It breathes the whole deck to life to place all the other cards in this lovely bio-rhythm curve over the wheel.
