The Mozilla Foundation has strengthened the protection of its "Facebook Container" extension, which now disables social network buttons on all web pages.

Mozilla goes further in its fight for the protection of personal data. From now on, third-party tracking cookies will be blocked by default for all new users of the Firefox browser.

In the coming months, this function will also be automatically activated for existing users.

Just to remember, tracking cookies allow advertisers to collect browsing data on Internet users and thus create a consumption profile. This can be quite intrusive, if the data collected is very large.

Firefox users could already manually enable the blocking of tracking cookies by going to the "Privacy and Security -> Content Blocking" setting menu, selecting the "Customized" mode and checking the "Cookies / Third Party Trackers" box.

Mozilla has also updated its Facebook Container extension.
Launched in 2018, it creates a navigation tab dedicated to Facebook and isolated from the other tabs. This prevents the social network from gleaning user navigation data, especially through its famous Share and Like buttons.

The new version of Facebook Container goes further by disabling these buttons even if the user is not connected to Facebook. In this case, these buttons are able to track users by creating and populating ad-hoc profiles ("Shadow profiles"), not associated with Facebook identifiers.

In addition, the foundation has simplified the graphical interface of Monitor, its cyber-attack or data leak alert service.

Finally, it should be noted that Mozilla completes its Lockwise password manager with a Firefox extension for computer. Lockwise was already available for iOS and Android.
