in #news5 years ago

The long report published by Intel and major automotive players focuses on security. The aim is to bring the industry together as well as to reassure and prepare the public for the future transport revolution.

Will the autonomous car adopt its version of the "laws of robotics"? In any case, Intel and ten major automotive industry partners are jointly publishing a report called "Safety First for Automated Driving".

A brick of more than 150 pages that provides a common framework around the autonomous car articulated through twelve fundamental principles.

To see it well

A free downloadable report entirely built around the idea of security and aimed at an informed audience - some of the terminology of the principles is quite cryptic.

From the way of operating in a degraded environment to electronic safety, the report aims to standardize as many cases as possible to avoid accidents. Makes sense.

In addition to the fact that some technological building blocks are not yet in place – I am thinking of 5G in particular - the reticence of insurers and the public is the other obstacle to the development of autonomous cars.

While the document is intended to be adopted by the entire industry, not everyone is yet present at Intel's initiative. Alongside him are Aptiv, Audi, Baidu, BMW, Continental, Daimler, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Here Technologies, Infineon and Volkswagen.

In other words: Germans, Chinese and Americans. But no Japanese group - while Toyota is the world's number 1, which has signed an advanced partnership with Nvidia. And not a single French, whether Renault-Nissan or Michelin.

Proof that Intel does not yet have everyone's trust and/or that the industry is still struggling to consult globally.
