// Hacking NEWS // An Antidote Is Available For the Latest Versions Of The GandCrab Ransomware
The BitDefender decryption tool now covers all versions except GandCrab 2 and 3. But it may only be a matter of time.
BitDefender security researchers have just released an update of their decryption tool for victims of the terrible ransomware GandCrab. The software now covers version 5.2, the latest version that has been created.
Previously, the tool was already able to decipher versions 1, 4, 5 and 5.1. Versions 2 and 3, unfortunately, are still out of reach.
To download the "GandCrab Decryption Tool", you can go to the BitDefender website or NoMoreRansom.org, which contains decryption tools for different ransomware.
In early June, the authors of the ransomware GandCrab announced that they were retiring because they had now raised enough money.
All encryption keys would therefore be destroyed by the end of the month, leaving no chance of recovery. Hence the importance of the work of security researchers such as BitDefender.

Having appeared in January 2018, GandCrab will have claimed more than 1.5 million victims worldwide, or half of all ransomware infections. This unfortunate success is due to a particularly efficient and innovative distribution model.
Fortunately, this nightmare is now over. But other pirates will certainly try to take over this torch.
BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY
The best cure against ransomware remains diligent prevention.
Users are strongly advised to:
always keep a copy of their most important files somewhere else: in the cloud, on another drive, on a memory stick, or on another computer;
use reliable and up-to-date anti-virus software;
not download programs from suspicious sources;
not open attachments in emails from unknown senders, even if they look important and credible;
don’t pay the ransom if you are a ransomware victim!
