The Mexican Magical City Tour: Después de mi corazón

in #travel7 years ago

Like The Fool, with no plan other than to follow my heart,
my journey is well underway.

I left my beloved community, The Garden of Eden @gardenofeden just over two weeks ago after almost 3 years of service to them.

During the northern California fires of 2015 all my possessions burned while in storage.
At the time I was living in community in Texas where I had only brought my work clothes and jewelry making supplies.

As a result, I am now unburdened with stuff and am free to roam about the planet.

My story begins with Fabio, the Kuna indigenous man I met in Panama three years ago.

Leaving Texas and Crossing Into Mexico

This is the first hostel of my journey. I made an arrangement with them in exchange for a discounted room for a review. Click here for my published review of

La Casa de Barrio

This is first of many reviews.

This is a framework map of my plan but is always subject to change.

It's, more than anything, a starting point. Currently, I am in northern Mexico.

While at the hostel, through online connections,

I met these two guys from here,

Monterrey,
who have some backpacking travel experience.

When I left the hostel they met with me and escorted me to the home of their friend who used to live in Houston, Texas. Together we mapped out the magical cities tour.

When I told them about the few places I really want to go they told me about the Magical Cities

Beginning with Mexico City all the places on my list are Magical Cities. I did not realize this.

My new friend, Ezequiel, tells me of another Magical City just a couple hours south,
Real de Catorce

Much to my surprise, the guys are so excited about my plan they have decided to escort me to Real de Catorce for Wednesday night's full moon ritual.

They tell me it's an amazing event.

This fried cheese and egg thing was so delicious.

Later they brought me more cheese and avocado.

It was great with those quesadillas.

Come to find out these guys are a rock band.

The top left guy is the electric guitar player.

When they played me a recording I was really impressed with his Santanna comparable sound.

Already, I am seeing that Ezequiel and I are going to be
great cooking together.

It's time to journey across Monterrey for the guys to manage their lives so they can take some time to journey down the trail.

So, we took a long walk to a bus.

This was a great opportunity for some beautiful Monterrey sunset photos.

The sunset we strolled under made the beautiful valley village glow.

Our little entourage of three passed a church celebrating the Virgin Mary in their ancient traditions.

Actually, they are worshipping their ancient goddess pretty much as they always have.

To pacify the early christians they swapped out the image of their own goddess for Mary.

After all, most all the ancient religions contain a virgin birth.

A little close-up of the special garments,
I suppose,
are a contemporary version of the ancient traditional costume.

After we arrive to our destination we are hungry so, Ovat, the boyfriend, pulled together this giant Durito.

It's a giant corn chip loaded with nacho possibilities.

Really good!

About this time, Ezequiel informs me that they have decided to backpack to Peru.

My journey has inspired them to be Fools and also make the jump.

For now, they want to follow the map we planned together, originally intended for me.

These two guys feel like the perfect travel companions.

I am SOooo ExCiTeD!!

Ezequiel is bilingual, they are familiar with Mexico, have backpacking experience, our interests in experiences are very similar, they are men and they are not interested in women.

Oh no, cleaning out your space to be gone a year or more is going to take longer than you realized.

Reality is beginning to set in.
Already the departure date is set back a day.

Time to meditate.

Three stories high, the view from the top of the house.

Today the guys are selling things, packing their backpacks,
managing pets and telling their families they are leaving.

Where will I be next? Maybe in my first Magical City.
