Auf meiner Mexikoreise 2018 habe ich auch das Akumal MONKEY SANCTUARY besucht.🐵
Das Akumal MONKEY SANCTUARY war ursprünglich als reines Tierheim für Affen konzipiert.

Originally the Akumal MONKEY SANCTUARY ought to be a sanctuary for apes only.
Doch Tierretter und Tierhalter fragten immer wieder, ob das Tierheim auch andere Tiere wie Papageien, Ziegen, Rehe und Aras, annehmen würde. 🐐🐦🦌
Daher wurde daraus vor ca. einem Jahr das Akumal MONKEY SANCTUARY & RESCUED ANIMALS.

But pet owners and rescuers kept asking, whether the sanctuary would also accept other animals such as parotts, goats, deers and macaws. 🐐🐦🦌
Therefore it has been renamed Akumal MONKEY SANCTUARY & RESCUED ANIMALS approximately one year ago.

Akumal ist wegen seines Strandes und seiner Meeresschildkröten bei Touristen sehr beliebt.
Among tourists Akumal is very famous for its beaches and its sea turtles.
Das AKUMAL MONKEY SANCTUARY befindet sich jedoch abseits, im vom Meer abgewandten Ortsteil Puebla auf der gegenüberliegenden Seite der Autobahn.
Man gelangt dorthin, indem man der Hauptstraße einfach bis ans Ende folgt.
Sie führt direkt in den Dschungel. Daher liegt das AMS auch etwas abseits vom Touristentrubel.

But the AKUMAL MONKEY SANCTUARY is located in the distant district apart the sea across the highway called Puebla.
You go there by simply following the main street to the end.
It heads directly into the djungle. Thereby AMS is a little bit far off from the touristic turbulences.

Während der Führung gingen wir auf einem Pfad an Käfigen und Gehegen vorbei, in denen die verschiedensten Tiere leben. 🐾 Einige von ihnen durften wir auch füttern.
During the tour we followed a path along some cages and compounds wherein live lot of different animals. 🐾Some of them we were allowed to feed.
Der Tourguide hat uns nebenbei erzählt, woher die Tiere kamen.
Dabei bekamen wir einen kleinen Einblick in die rücksichtslose Art und Weise, wie einige Halter mit ihren Tieren umgehen.
Einige von Ihnen dienten ihren Haltern als Touristenattraktionen. Für andere waren sie nur Haustiere.
Ein Affe hatte keine Hand mehr, weil er fliehen wollte und in einen Elektrozaun geriet.
Dabei bekamen wir einen kleinen Einblick in die rücksichtslose Art und Weise, wie einige Halter mit ihren Tieren umgehen.

Thereby we got few insights on how ruthless some owner are treating their pets.
Some animals had to serve as a tourist attraction. Some of them were simply pets.
One ape lost his hand, because he wanted to flee and got stuck in an electric fence.

Am Ende der Tour durften wir in ein großes Gehege mit Kapuzineraffen, die uns eifrig bekletterten, weil wir Kürbiskerne hatten. 🙂
Es handelt sich glaube ich um den Schwarzen oder Gehaupten Kapuziner.

At the end of the tour we were allowed to visit a big compound for capuchin monkeys. They were eager to climb us, because we had pumpkin seeds. 🙂

Kapuzineraffen ernähren sich von Beeren und Nüssen. Sie leben die meiste Zeit in den Bäumen und kommen nur zur Nahrungssuche herunter.
Sie sind sehr intelligente Primaten, die anscheinend sogar Werkzeuge aus Stein herstellen können.
Es war sehr interessant, einem „entfernten Verwandten“ mal direkt in die Augen zu sehen. Natürlich auch in die der anderen Tiere!

Capuchin monkeys live on berries and nuts. Most of the time they are living in the trees and they are only leaving them for foraging.
They are very intelligent pimates, that apperently know how to built tools out of stone.
It was very interesting to look into the eyes of a "distant relative" (but into the eyes of the other animals aswell!).

Wow! Such an amazing place. :-) Those monkey look so cute.
Indeed, they are incredibly cute. They also were very young. I had to restrain myself a little bit, because I wanted to cuddle with them so badly, but we were told, that they don't like feeling "trapped" or anything.
