Team Australia new recruits: update 30/06/17

in #teamaustralia7 years ago (edited)

Good morning, or afternoon, or evening depending on where you are. I hope you’re having a lovely day!

Well, I’ve got a lot of new people to introduce for Team Australia right now, so much so that the phrase 'biting off more than I can chew' comes to mind.

I will write another post on the weekend and then hopefully another one on Tuesday. I get the US public holidays so I should have a bit more time then – although I do need to buy a vacuum cleaner. I've come to realise that sweeping is the most pointless, annoying chore EVER! I’ve reached the end of my tether with useless brooms that just move stuff around and get an endless amount of hair stuck in them. I know everywhere is tiled here (carpet = mould) but seriously, why don’t people use vacuum cleaners? The inefficiency of sweeping is driving me crazy.

Sorry, I went off on a mini-rant there. What I was trying to say is, buying an appliance could turn into a major time sucking event (being Panama) and then I won’t have as much time on Tuesday I thought. But I will definitely try to get a post out!

I want to keep the intros to a max of five so they don’t get too long. Otherwise, you’ll get bored reading them. I’ll get bored writing them. And then basically these updates will turn into a steemy pile of shite.  💩💩💩

I am responding in the order that people have responded to me so if you’re not here but I’ve left you a comment, you’re on my ever-increasing list. Don't worry, your intro is coming.

Candidate 1

Name and bio

@alexoz is a Belgian living in beautiful Cairns (ah Cairns. I love that place). However, he is keen to leave soon and is currently looking for travel buddies to undertake an epic 4WD trip across the Top End to Broome, Kimberley and the west coast of Australia. If this interests you, go check out his page.

@alexoz is the co-founder of Decred –  a multi-platform digital currency. When he started Decred and told his friends about how it could make them rich, none of them listened (idiots). His mum eventually did see the light and invested €500 to make a very nice return of €30,000 in just five months. Hmm… we don't really have to guess who her favourite child is, do we?

Fun fact

“I retired in front of their eyes in only three months!”

Nice. I wish you’d been my friend when all this was happening. If I was retired I’d have no problemo getting these recruitment posts out.

Candidate 2

Name and bio

@forexbrokr is a trader from Sydney. Before he got started he was an IT student chasing that stable 9-5 job (which is never just 9-5) we all think we want (until 10 years in when we realise how much it actually sucks).

At some point along the way he googled 'how to make money online' and his interest in trading was born. @forexbrokr quit his cushy grad job and went to straight to the US. However, his lifestyle was bigger than his trading account and he chewed through his capital pretty quickly. Fast forward to now and he runs forexbrokr, a platform where he shares his trading thoughts and experiences.

Fun fact

"After travelling through some of Europe and North America, I became really self conscious about the amount of times I said the words 'cheers' and 'mate'. Yeah, I'm definitely Australian."

Nothing wrong with the word mate. John Howard tried to get 'mateship' added to the Constitution back in the 90s. Unfortunately, the Democrats blocked it in a very un-Australian move.

Candidate 3

Name and bio

@hannahlicious is a Pom living in Sydney with her husband and dog. She works from home for a credit card company and can quite literally roll from her bed to her desk five minutes before starting. (That sounds much better than sitting in Sydney commuter traffic.) Strangely, she likes that she can take all day to get ready by bumming about in PJs all morning, taking a shower at lunch, putting makeup on during her afternoon break, and then finishing the day looking ready to leave the house.  I’m curious about the benefit of this. I feel getting ready in bits throughout the day would just be really annoying.

@hannahlicious is currently focusing on thirty-something grown-up activities like quitting smoking, trying to save money, going to the gym, eating healthier, cooking more often, trying to be a better wife, being happier and generally being more responsible.

Fun fact

“I am originally from the UK and I first came to Australia in 2013 as an English backpacker.... ended up marrying an Australian and now I live here!”

Ah, you’re not the first English lass to escape Old Blighty after being wooed by a ridgy-didge Aussie bloke. Plus it’s good that we got you before @tremendospercy did.

Candidate 4

Name and bio

@adammadd is from Newcastle (do you know anyone from Silverchair?) but now lives in Brisbane with his wife, baby daughter, two green cheek conure parrots and one Maine Coon cat.

He is a mild mannered IT Manager by day, a NuDisco and House DJ by night, and does some club photography on the side. (Um, when do you sleep?) He also runs a small online Australian clubbing community called Ozclubbers. @adammadd is really into house music and by extension all variations of disco and funk.

Fun fact

“I used to write POS software and database software in VB. I started writing software when I was four years old on an old Commodore 64 computer and finished my first software package at the age of six."

I remember being a normal child who liked playing video games on Commodore 64s. There was one game I was obsessed with where you had to beat the clock to get all the plaque off teeth and floss or they’d start falling out. Using a Commodore 64 to write code sounds way less fun, but also less intense. That game was full-on.

Candidate 5

Name and bio

@harrynewman is our second Newcastle resident of the day. (How about you? Do you know anyone from Silverchair?) His story focuses on how he found fitness after looking for a life change. At the time, he smoked, drank, had no life goals, and felt defeated by the society. Now he is a personal trainer and enjoys encouraging and empowering people on a daily basis. After finding a purpose, his physical and mental health improved dramatically, and his perspective on life shifted from dark to the light.

@harrynewman has come to steemit to share his knowledge about diet, exercise, and the emotional lessons he’s learnt along the way. He wants to use steemit and other passive income streams to support himself while travelling.

Fun fact

“I'm a personal trainer who owns one gorgeous ginger cat.”

I like how your cat’s name is Mr Noodles. However, now I just really want a bowl of Asian noodle soup.

@sirknight, please add these fine upstanding citizens to Team Australia.

Existing members, please go here and follow everyone that’s been added to Team Australia since you last checked. If your name is on this list, please do not ask me to introduce you. You are already part of the team.

Don't forget to check out @centerlink, who is busy putting Aussie-battler tax dollars to work in the form of dole payments for your posts.

And finally you guys, check out the awesome Minnow Support Project here and here. You're really missing out if you're not part of it.

The rules for joining Team Australia

If you’re not yet a member and want to be, this is what you need to do:

  1. Follow all the existing members @teamaustralia.
  2. Vote here for our resident steemit witness @ausbitbank.
  3. Comment below that you want to join.
  4. Link your introduction post so I can find out a bit about you. If you’re new to steemit you'll have to write one so use the introduceyourself tag to help boost your following.
  5. If it’s not mentioned in your introductory post, tell me which city and country you’re in, cos let's face it, a lot of us live in Australia's fourth largest city - London.
  6. If you’re not Aussie tell me why you should be a teamaustralia ambassador.
  7. Tell me a fun fact about yourself. This can be anything. For example, maybe you run a successful business, or you have eight kids and three dogs, or you rode your bike across Amercia, or you won the blue ribbon for javelin throwing at sports day back in high school, or Toadie came into the pub you work at one day and you served him a beer, or, maybe you can fit 55 maltesers in your mouth like Ed Sheeran can. It doesn’t matter what it is, I want a fun fact about you!

Once I receive this information I will try my best to write a good introductory paragraph about you for the official Team Australia membership updates. So the better your information is, the better I can make you sound. Where relevant, please use the teamaustralia and australia tags to promote your work. I will try and post weekly updates unless there is a lot of interest, in which case I will try and post sooner.

Ciao for now.

SirKnight (posting as Team Australia.)

And @Choogirl (bless you btw) - I really hope you find that someone from 'Silverchair' you are longing for. ;)

I've loved Daniel Johns since "I'm a freak".

Hey guys I wish to join teamaustralia I was born in Perth WA and still reside here. My city is my love as is my family. I would love if you included me in teamaustralia
https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@ch00fy/my-passion-family-and-food

My fan fact is hard to narrow down but I'm a keen beer drinker and I believe my cooking gets better the more beer I drink 😛 I'm a hospitality freak I love my work and would never change it for anything in the world ...

Thank you 😊

Hey @choogirl am I on your list? I followed all the teamaustralia users. Is there anything else? Thank you

Yes, you are now. I'll let you know when I've introduced you.

G'day, I'd like to join up.
Followed all and voted for @ausbitbank.
I live in Darwin, Northern Territory. Semi-retired but still running a small battery business - revivebatteries.com.au.
My intro post - https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@plumey/g-day-from-the-land-of-oz

Fun Fact:
My Wife and I have a 20 acre bush block at a place called Bynoe Harbour. We're building a small house where we are going to live away from the "Real World". It's totally off the grid - we run on solar power and rainwater tanks. So far we've built the whole thing by ourselves (with help from friends). The best thing is there is almost no Government control - no Council - no rates - no building codes. Luckily, we do have a pub just up the road.
So far, I've only done 1 other post - https://steemit.com/travel/@plumey/do-oz-1-territory-day-the-most-explosive-day-of-the-year-in-australia-don-t-miss-it

Look forward to joining all the other Aussies in a common cause!

You're on my list. I'll let you know when you've been introduced.

yay :) thanks @choogirl and @sirknight.. I am so excited to be here :) thanks for introducing me haha! The only benefit of getting ready in increments during the day and finishing to look normal is so my husband doesn't become disgusted
coming home to me ugly, make-upless and in a onesie everyday :)
going to follow the other guys just introduced now!

Ok. But I'm still not convinced this is better than doing it all in one go. 😂

Also, you should get onto @tremendospercy and get in teamGB too. Dual citizenship is allowed. You'd probably have some funny perspectives on things since you now live in Oz.

I like your steemit posts, im your follower now. Good Luck!

welcome new people!
