SteemHeroes Episode 0-7: The Discovery of Dimensional Fissures
On 9/18/36, an event took place that would change our perception of reality. A small tech developer named Verdentech Labs located on the outskirts of Olympus was working on technology to drastically increase the output of power from Olympium fuel cubes. This technology would decrease the lifespan of the Olympium, but produce far more power. Verdentech claimed they wanted to reduce the size of the Olympium cubes required for consumer electronics, but in reality they were creating lightweight and condensed power sources for energy weapons like lasers and sonic cannons.
Episode 0-7: The Discovery of Dimensional Fissures
To carry out these tests, Verdentech scientists subjected Olympium cubes to a wide array of stimuli. Heat and cold, stronger electrical impulses, chemical compounds and compression tests were carried out with varying degrees of success. However, when the scientists attempted sonic stimuli it finally managed to show solid results.
Different degrees of sonic experiments were carried out on Olympium samples with different frequencies and volume levels. As the scientists started to pinpoint the settings which showed the highest reaction from the samples, they triggered a violent reaction in their Olympium sample. A cube just 1” x 1" in size exploded with enough force to not only destroy the lab, but leave a crater the size of an entire city block.
The event not only sent the public into a panic about the safety of Olympium, it had an even greater effect. The explosion was so focused and powerful that it created a tear in our universe that connected our world with a parallel dimension. A portal formed where the center of the explosion took place, which looked like a slit about 8 feet high by 4 feet wide. Thankfully The Council, Zenethen and the US Government worked swiftly to quarantine the rift. This portal became known as a ‘dimensional fissure.’
This fissure was under constant high level surveillance from The Council and as creatures emerged from the fissure they were quickly suppressed and taken to a secret government facility where they could be studied and quarantined. While scientists eventually discovered a way to close this fissure, the method of opening them had gotten leaked. Eventually these fissures started appearing around the world — first in Greenland, a second in Thailand and a third showed up in Austria. As fast as they appeared, The Council was deployed in partnership with the United Nations to close these fissures as quickly as possible.
Through these operations, we learned that these fissures each led to different dimensions. At last count, The Council had discovered 11 separate complete dimensions and scientists have avoided any estimations of how many there could potentially be.
Even though these quarantine operations were carried out quickly and efficiently, these fissures around the world were left open for hours before being shut down. One thing is for certain — some things have come through those gates that we haven’t discovered yet.
