SteemHeroes Episode 0-1: The Discovery of Olympium
In 2024, the Hillsford Mining Company operating near the mountains around Pueblo, Colorado made a world-changing discovery. Within the mountain laid a massive deposit of an unknown yellow luminescent mineral substance.
Episode 0-1: The Discovery of Olympium
The mining company sent samples of this mineral to the University of Colorado where the geology department ran numerous tests on it and could not match it to any known substance. After finding no answers, it was sent to the chemistry department for detailed examination and what they found was one of the greatest discoveries of human history.
When activated with a small electrical charge, this mineral energizes itself to generate its own self-sustaining electrical current with very little structural degradation. In short, they discovered an element that is exponentially more energy dense than traditional fossil fuels. Small electronics could run for their entire lifetimes without the need for batteries or charging them. A 2x2" cube of this matter stores enough energy to power a car for 200,000 miles.
And with this discovery a new element was added to the periodic table, named Olympium due to researchers describing this discovery as giving humanity the power of the gods. The Hillsford Mining Company suddenly owned the world’s most valuable resource, which caused its valuation to skyrocket and it quickly evolved into the corporate behemoth “Zenethen”, the world’s primary supplier of Olympium. In the following years, the US government made attempts to use imminent domain to take over the mine, however the billions in the war chest of Zenethen gave them the power and influence to keep an army of politicians in their back pocket to fight any attempts to take the mine.
With this world-changing resource coming from a single location, a new city named Olympus quickly grew around the Olympium mine which grew to a population of 300,000 in just a few short years as industry, tech and business corporations sprouted offices, research facilities and manufacturing plants near the mine.
In the years following this discovery, Olympium became integrated into most of the devices that we use on a daily basis — cell phones, cars and even whole homes were being converted to running on Olympium. It was everywhere and the energy crisis was assumedly solved, however it didn’t come without a cost.

But this does not hinder people to look for it elsewhere, right? Don't want to make a mistake in my possible back story.
Olympium will not be discovered anywhere else. This mine in Colorado is the only location where it exists on Earth.
