Building Towers (Original)steemCreated with Sketch.

in #story7 years ago

If I could tear away from distraction
I'd build a tower
That could skirt the atmosphere
And brush against the quiet kiss of space.

Near and far they would gather for the climb,
Their heads turned upwards
And dancing dark in their eyes
A most basic, if maddening, purpose.

The foundation would be laid with questions,
Simple inquiries
Shouted from child to parent
About the nature of this existence.

When we finally reach the edge of space
Will we have our grace
In our recriminations,
The fevered desperation of the damned.

What if there is someone there to greet us,
To welcome us home,
From fallen to gods again,
The reemergence of humanity.

It is much more likely this tower falls
And the works of our hands,
Forever in stone ruin,
Marks but another chapter in hubris.

Oh, man, this was so wonderfully written! Such powerful imagery conveyed by the words. I like how the story progressed along with the height of the tower. Hits close to home because of a post I'm going to put up soon. Great job!

Thanks so much for your comment! I'm looking forward to seeing your related post :)

It's actually up now at the top of my blog, if you want to check it out. Fair warning though, it's quite a long read.
