Steem UK : introducing @steemclub-uk to support UK content creators

in #steempress3 years ago (edited)

As one small step to help support and grow the Steem community in the UK I have set up the steem account @steemclub-uk.

I am delegating a large chunk of my available steempower to this account and have set up an auto-voter to start giving small votes to UK based content creators.

I have delegated 500 SP to test it works. Once all is going okay I will increase this to 2000 SP.

Initially I plan to give all 120+ UK steemians a 10% vote per day.

I will monitor this over the next week or so to see if this percentage is sustainable.

I am trying this out as a personal commitment initially but if anyone would like to delegate to the account feel free.

Options for voting percentages

Once it is established there are a number of options to be considered for determining who gets what voting percentage.

  • Should everyone get an equal vote regardless of other factors?
  • Should people be rewarded with greater voting percentages if they are active in promoting steem in the UK?
  • Should people be rewarded with greater voting percentages according to how much they have delegated to the account?
  • Or should some combination of all three measures be employed?
If activity in promoting steem is a factor how should that be determined?

Thoughts and opinions welcome on this...

Curation Trail

I have also set up a Curation Trail on the @steemclub-uk account if anyone fancies supporting that with their vote.

SteemClub-UK Discord Server

I have also set up a Discord Server to help with networking and the organisation of events and meetups.

More on that to follow shortly.

Next Steem UK Virtual Meetup

The next Steem UK Virtual Meetup has been set for Thursday 29 November.

This will take place 8pm - 11pm UK time during my radio show on MSP Waves.

Everyone is welcome to join in.

Steemians in the UK - currently 131

These are all the active steemians currently identified in the UK. If you know anyone else that should be added please post in the comments or message me on Discord (@Pennsif#9921).

The suggestion has also been made to include expats. That works for me - any expats that would like to be added?

Are you a Brit living abroad that would still like to lend your support to developing Steem in the UK?

Hi @pennsif, this is a great idea! I would love to help in whatever small way I can. The steem community in the UK definitely needs a shakeup and some growth!

That will be great. And thank you for the delegation to @steemclub-uk.

I've just been to, but can't find a link to tonight's chat. How do I join it?

What a great initiative!

We had a really good UK presence @Steemfest - now we just have to keep it going in the UK!

Hopefully we can make it fly from here.

Just done an update post that might be of interest...

Hi all, just found this post...again and thought the radio show was interesting.
I'm up for shaking things up for the UK branch of steem. :-)

Great, hope you can make it along to the next Steem UK Virtual Meetup on 29 November.

I'll try to get my microphone sorted out for the next Steem UK Virtual Meetup on 29 November.

Hi, I am based in Essex, England. I am talking about life coaching , and personal development on my account. I just joined today, thank you :)

Hi @eternalsuccess, welcome to steem. You have arrived at a good time as SteemClub-UK is just bursting into life.

I hope you can make it along to the SteemClub-UK Virtual Meetup on Thursday 29 November, 8pm - 11pm UK time.

Hi welcome, good to have you on board!

Nice one! I do something similar with for deserving people and new people who I think need a little help.

Getting the vote weight right can be challenging. I like the VP to be around 80-90%.

And thank you for the support - much appreciated.

Awesome initiative dude.

Thanks @gmuxx, I'm looking forward to seeing how this all spins out...

That's a great initiative @pennsif setting up the @steemclub-uk. I know a lot of other countries like Australia, NZ, Japan, Malaysia have support groups so it's great that UK are starting our own as well.

Personally I think it would be great to focus on helping newbies as a priority to ensure they stick around. And then anyone else who promotes Steem in UK, and then everyone else. That's my 2 cents worth.

And yes, I'd love to be added to the list so I can keep up to date with what's happening. I'm currently in Taiwan (handle was a bit of a giveaway I guess ^_^)

That's great - you are the first on the Ex-pats list now 😃

Thanks for the input on the autovoting - I will be experimenting over the next couple of weeks as the SP of the @steemclub-uk grows. If you fancy delegating or joining the curation trail that would be great.

Excellent, thank you.

You really are pulling out all the stops for the UK scene. I doth my cap to you sir ;) Delegation is on its way.

Thank you so much for the delegation Dan.

Hope you can make it along to the next Virtual Meetup on 29 November.

I'll be there for sure buddy.

I think this is a great idea @pennsif and I will delegate some sp for sure. At some point next week when I have time to work out what I might need my sp for project-wise I'll work out how much.

In regards to function for the @steemclub-uk support bot.

I do think both promoters and delegators should get a small proportional bump in vote percentage, at least at first, but not huge. If loads of people on the list delegated then maybe it wouldn't matter as the account would grow to SP levels that gave everyone a decent vote regardless.

I'll make it to the virtual meet up again and maybe share my experience at steemfest where I met @revisesociology and a few other Brits like @cryptogee.

I think this idea could grow into a massive promotional tool over the next 6 months as the account grows. Have you thought about making a weekly update on the account and asking everyone to set an autovote of 100% on it with a promise that all post rewards are powered up? Or even a daily or 3/4 week update post. This would be a good way to increase the account SP as time passes creating abundance for the current UK authors and higher incentive to new potential steemians we are promoting to.

So many possibilities. Speak soon

Hi @raj808, thanks for all the ideas. There will be a lot of evolution to take place over the coming weeks.

My show tomorrow is the SteemFest3 After Party for people who attended to share their inspiring stories and feedback. You would be welcome to come on if you fancy...

Consider looking at Wise - a curation support where you allow others vote with your voting power and still keep control over the votes. It's like more fine-grained delegation without delegating.
With that, as the community evolves you could designate votes to curators in a given area. Good stuff gets a vote and you don't need to find it all yourself. And you can withdraw if you don't agree with a decision.

Thanks, I will take a look at Wise.

The idea was put forward to have some sort of food-related steem event in or around London. Would you be interested in getting involved with that?

Yes I would. Are we taking about 2019?

Yes, I would think it may be February / March / April time next year.

I'm in. We could do this before the cryptocurrency show should PromoSteem take part.

That is excellent, thank you.

I hope you can make it along to the next Steem UK Virtual Meetup on Thursday 29 November, 8pm - 11pm.

I'll try but I cannot promise anything.

Hi - Yeah i too am also in UK(SOMEWHERE).

Now added to the new list, thank you.
