⏺Knowledge vs. intelligence.. Why I hated school!steemCreated with Sketch.

I ALWAYS ENCOURAGE YOU TO READ EVERY WORD.png
coollogo_com-29153915.png
This is a topic that has practically bothered me for almost my entire life. My entire school career I noticed something. People do not know the difference between knowledge and intelligence.

I will be open about this. I was a failure in school. In my entire school career, my highest reported average was never higher than 60%. Many times I failed most of my subjects. As a result, my teachers thought I was stupid, and never took my opinion seriously. The thing is, when you go-on like this for so many years, you start to believe it.

Now, I was never pro for school. I was against the concept since 8th grade. The only reason I stuck things through was because my parent's wanted me to at least finish.

Why am I telling you this?
Well, it has been on my mind for so many years, and until I actually came across this platform, I have never been able to openly-speak about what is in my head.

So here is my opinion. School has absolutely nothing to do with a person's intelligence. When ever my peers were studying there school work, I was studying personal development.. Truly expanding my mind, instead of learning things that will only give you a cool number. I see this as being very similar to have fake followers on social media. They are just a number, with no value.

Obviously, back then it was always a popularity contest. The ones who always got the best marks, and my 'smarty pants' peers always thought they were wise-asses outside the classroom, just because they got a higher percentage-number on a piece of paper.

For that very reason, I honestly despised my school career. No one could ever understand what was happening in my head. Whenever I used to talk to the girls in my class, they got lost in my words, and ended-up ignoring me. It was a very frustrating time in my life.

I am not afraid to take a stand (Eminem :P) for the things I feel strongly about anymore. I believe in transparency, and if you know everything about me, then there shouldn't be too many unanswered questions at a later stage.

There is a reason I am not studying at university right now. I made the decision already in the middle of high school, that I will not study anything for some piece of paper. I do not need a few words on a page to tell others I know what I am talking about. I will rather let my real words speak for themselves.

Of course, this is no offense to anyone who is currently studying. Go for it! :)

It's just me. I literally had to write this article quickly. Got so much to do.

the Schooling System - You mean the "Indoctrination Camps" ...you know where you're conditioned to be:

obedient...docile...suppressed....depressed...regimented into a 9-5 grind of mostly busy work.

You know,

the parroting process of memory regurgitation...mostly useless information

  • no practical ...tangible, immediate application...

  • the more you are brainwashed...the more you are rewarded with 'good grades'...because you really got to program in a lot of bullshit to 'do well' in school...or now how to bullshit effectively and not get brainwashed so extensively....it's a most tragic comedy.

  • fortunately more and more parents are waking up to these indoctrination camps...and more and more people are realize that a lot of the college and university programs are a joke...

Everyone has a natural learning ability - we learn best when our environment supports us to explore our interests. It makes no sense for everyone to focus on the same thing...

  • Diversity in Passions is a great thing.

I encourage everyone to stop going to school - no matter your age - only go if you really want to be there....and if you do really want to - ask yourself why?

  • If the "Why" has anything to do with FEAR:

Fuck the Fear and make a Play! Work it Out!

Awesome comment brother. You really spoke your mind in this one hey! :D Love it.

I keep trying to say it, I don't want to judge other's who actually appreciate the system.. It's just, like I said in a few comments on this post (should've added to the post..), these education instituations are not diversified for different personality types.

We will always have people from different walks of life. The world needs diversity. What I don't understand is how some younster (and most other people) can register this, but no schooling system can.. I just doesn't make sense.

You cannot judge a fish by how it can climb a tree.. That was the real point of this post.

My personal experience in school was like me being a Piranha in a small fish bowl, surrounded by monkeys. LOL!

Thanks for your comment. I would boost it, but looks like you did a good job of doing so :D Talk soon.

Agreed! Thanks for taking the time to type it out.

I feel you man! Seriously ... I look back to my primary school and university days and think, I was such a robot, for simply following what was expected in society. I mean, I may not even know that I was doing it, but I guess back in those days, I always assumed the go to school, get good grades, work hard, and then you will be rewarded with a decent job that pays for living and such.

At the end of day, I realized that I kept going through life simply how society wanted and not what I personally wanted. So, I feel the same way in despising my school time. All I did was just memorize information, and LOTS of it, useless in my day-to-day activity. Okay, yes some history, languages, and the arts have come in handy with my creativity and traveling ... but overall, I'd say I'd wasted lots of time and especially wasted LOTS of money going to university to study a degree that then I figured towards 75% of completion wasn't what I wanted to do. Pretty tough to undo an expensive education haha.

Boss comment! It's exactly that.. There are so many degree-dropout stories.. Who realy blame a person for not wanting to go study further.. Besides my choice of never studying, I think it's a bad decision for anyone to just jump into things straight after high-school. We need to explore ourselves, and not just make rational decisions based on time and urgency. If you ask me, that's the main reason why people are not sticking to their original plans..

Anyways, thanks for stopping by brother! You are awesome. I gave you a follow. Talk soon.

Thanks for being able to relate so well. You clearly payed attention and I appreciate that! Here's a small comment-boost :)

Talk soon.

Cheers man ... that's why you and I have struck out in our own paths ... we won't follow any kind of guidelines or rulebooks and if we do, we'll still end up carving our own paths. That's just in our blood and our nature to do things that feel more aligned to what we feel. Keep at it man!

I like that you said even if the rules are followed, we will always carve our own paths. That's so accurate! Rules are there to be not broken, but bent!

Thanks brother. Appreciate that. Talk soon.

I feel like I was in the opposite position in school, lol. I was one of the ones getting all the good grades, but not really having knowledge that I could apply to my life from that. And then when I got out of high school and went to university, I suddenly became aware of how stupid the system was. I realized that I was getting good grades in university not based on my knowledge and application of it, but based on whether or not I could rotely spit out the answer that that particular professor or that particular TA wanted to hear. There was no correct way to write an essay, there was no skill that I was developing and learning. It was just a matter of talking to these professors and TAs enough until I figured out what they specifically wanted to see in my writing, and then I just had to do that robotically and I'd get an A. Needles to say I dropped out after two years, and could not be happier for having done that.

The problem with this is that rotely spitting out the answer that others want to see has nothing to do with intelligence and application and everything to do with being a puppet, or a cog in the system, if you will. That's what the society needs. People who follows orders but don't think for themselves. And people who have gained little to no intelligence or skills form their 20 some years in school.

Sorry to be blunt, but this is how I honestly feel about the education system today. And I couldn't agree more with you, that education has almost nothing to do with intelligence. And that's because the education system today does not improve one's intelligence or give them a skill set that they can use in life. Being able to spit out memorized answers for a test does not give a person intelligence, and it certainly does not give them skills that they can use in life, except maybe memorization skills, haha. Great post! Cheers! :)

This is the reason why some people call it government indoctrination camps. Pupils are just repeating what the books say (or the government wants them to say) but waste their youth and most creative time doing so to become a brainwashed, easy to control puppet. Instead of developing skills that might acutally help them for the rest of their lives.

So true. Look, I'm not here to hate on school. I think it's a great thing for many people out there who want stability for their future. But the problem comes in when the system only accommodates a single personality type, and that's for being a follower.

They have a very mono-approach to things. Like expecting a fish to climb a tree. They call that fish stupid. Yet, they don't ever attempt to put it in the water, and see how fast it can swim. That's literally my story in a nut-shell lol!

Thanks for stopping by again brother. Talk again soon.

Wow, love this comment. You are awesome, Natasha.

Yeah, look I was obviously speaking for my own thoughts on this topic. Majority of others will have a different experience for the schooling career. I respect anyone who get decent marks in school. Even though it's a very simple process (Just do what the teachers look for), I didn't have time for that.. That's all. I'm not saying getting good grades was easy though. Anyone who got decent grades definitely worked in some way for it. Expecially the really high achievers, it's clear they had to work really hard.

I'm more upset, like you stated, about the schooling system itself, and the unhealthy paradigms that people have about education.

Awesomely said. It's alright, you can be blunt! I am very much in the same mode :)

Thanks for stopping by. You are awesome. I have given you a follow, and I have checked out your blog and engaged :) Talk soon.

Couldn't agree more @enazwahsdarb!

I am glad!

Are you avoiding opportunity without knowing it? That's my latest post. Enjoy :)

Absolutely right @enazwahsdarb! You might have come across the quote "I was born intelligent, but education ruined me!" Knowledge/education and intelligence are two different things. A fool could have the knowledge but not know what to do with it/misuse it. And an intelligent person despite not having the knowledge can think smartly enough to find somebody else who does and engage him. :)
So you didn't hit it right at school, but so what!
The definition of success differs from person to person and circumstance to circumstance. As long as you keep learning and have the right attitude towards life, you are in great hands (your own!) :)

Awesome comment sister! So true. I actually haven't heard those quotes, but I guess we notice something new everyday hey!

Sorry if there might even been some spelling errors. I didn't get the chance to read through it. I haven't even put in the other red headings yet, I'll do it later when I have time. I'm literally relying to this comment on my phone in the car lol!

Thanks for stopping by. Talk soon.

Sure! I understand the rush. And forgive your typos. LOL. But, do note for our future correspondences I'm a she! :) And you are correct. We learn something new every day. As long as we are learning, we are growing. Good post! Keep writing. Wish you a good day! - @sandzat

Sorry for the delay, hectic day. Thank you for your kind words!

I gave you a follow :) You enjoy your day as well! It's currently 2am here, so no more day for me.. But new day rising! Talk soon.

Learning is subjective, I want to learn because I want to not because a few cronies say I can't get by with my natural skills..

Amen to that Justin! That's what was frustrating me all those years. What's funny, and ironic, is that now that I am out of school, with no obligation to need to study, I actually want to learn from books and resources. Only when you're forced to do something that it'll never be with 100% effort.

So awsome to se this post, open up like that is and be transparence. I agree 100% school has nothing to do with intelligence they just go by number.....dont really help young kids to prepare for real life or to support them to belive in them selfs. They put them down insted and makes them feel like idiots.
I was a nerd in school, studdyed hard and were a very shy and quiet person.....I know right U dont belive it cause now I cant seem to shut up
Lol I was a person who most teachers liked and that wasent always a good thing cause their image of me really didnt match mine and I think it was in college I realized no more Thats not me so I changed and funny thing is when I tried less I succeded more mentaly and realized I didnt need their words to feel good I just have to belive in myself......not even once did they support or prepared us for real life just about right there in that building and about that subject.....like that was all that matters.
I havent studdyed sence college and I had a dream working with kids and that is what Im doing. We have the chance to change that way of learning and give the kids a good start in life
listening to what they want and their dreams and support and guide them every step of the way And to teath them to belive in them selfs because they grow when the reach a goal and that smile.....priceless.
Its what u have in ur heart that counts and in school everybody got judged by the same thing...but we are all different, we all are good at something and by finding that one thing we can develope that and go far.
Intelligence and streigns is within everyone we are all unique.
Thank u for sharing, u are amazing and feel like u let us closer for every post :0)
Talk soon. Resteemed

Sara, I actually delayed this reply.. Kept postponing it because it was so long haha!

So much insight. Its crazy.

Once again, I am finding it challenging to respond to this haha!

You are awesome. You take your job seriously, and give yourself purpose! That's what really counts.

I think replying to your comments would be easiest with memes :D

Talk soon. Then mabye I'll se u on the chat

Great post man. I used to hate school too but I never knew why. Now I know. They were trying to brainwash me and I didn't like it. They didn't teach me how to think. They were teaching me what to think. I learned how to think all by myself after I made so many mistakes thanks to the indoctrinations I had gone through! Upvoted & RESTEEMED.

Awesome comment brother. Thanks for stopping by. That giveaway is a cool concept by the way!

Yeah man, I mean everyone to their own opinion obviously, but what annoyed me about the schooling system is that they weren't diverse enough.

They judge a fish on climbing trees.. And never look at its ability to swim. Many people are other animals who are able to cope with the system.

Thanks for that brother! Very kind. If I wasn't following you already, I would follow again haha! Talk soon.

Well... Thanks for your comment. If you hadn't commented on my post, I wouldn't have discovered your post or your profile neither would I have upvoted or resteemed this post. Wouldn't have followed you either! Haha

Haha just shows! The power of engaging is endless! I'm glad we met. Talk again soon.

Intelligence is natural, knowledge is acquired. Intelligence will facilitate your speed in acquiring knowledge. Knowledge is not acquired in school only. However, school offers organised knowledge. @enawahsdarb, you are intelligent, that is why you are doing what you are doing. Imagine when you acquire more organised knowledge. Your strength will increase greatly.

Brother this is brilliant. You're so right!

Very well said. Thanks for that. You are also intelligent! So in terms of organized knowledge, what do you have in mind?

By the way, sorry for the delayed response! Had to sleep. Talk soon.

Yes, organised knowledge in the sense that if you attend higher institution, you become a specialist e.g a lawyer, doctor, accountant etc. Intelligence, which is God-given, innate, inborn can not make you a lawyer or medical doctor. You need to go for formally organised knowledge which you can't get outside the four walls of school.

Hardly sleep these days too. Lol

You have a fantastic point there! I couldn't agree more. The main point of my story of this post was to state that my logic doesn't mix well with organized knowledge. That's why I am not encouraging people to just leave school, haha!

There are people with different personality types, and certain (many) people need organized knowledge to function.

Thanks for your second response. It was good. If you haven't yet, go check out my latest post. Talk soon.

Yes I feel you! I didn't really succeed in school either at all, but hey, most great ones haven't! :D Love the pic! :)

Oh but so true. Seriously? So you're the same as me then :P

Hi.
I agree with your point. But lets be real, not so many kids know what they want or they need at the begining.

So, school has got its reason until that person reach a goal, a purpose... something that he wants to do in life.

For reaching that thing, he must face the people around him and see what is the real world.
Staying alone in a house does not improve aptitudes or skills. Competition it sure does.

School is good for integration in real world and
become awear at the best time of big bs that try to induce in our minds.

So, to be able to see good thins you must see the worst ones, to see something beautifull you must have the ugly thing to compare... Life consist in balance. Thats the way it is.

When we wake up we can do or at least try to change from a "regular inteligent sheep" to a person with real beliefs and needs. Then starts the hard work. Integrate into "normal people".

That is the big life challenge. Isn't it? :-)))

I appreciate your confidence in being honest and speaking your mind! This is awesome :)

You are correct. That's why I wasn't speaking generally.. I was mainly speaking my mind, since I did realize this from a slightly earlier stage. I agree, until you you mature enough to know what it is that you want to do, school is a good environment to explore your surroundings.

Then again, do we ever really know 100% what it is we want to do? I think we are all on a constant mission trying to identify out purpose. No matter the age.

Fair point. Thanks for responding. I appreciate your opinion. You are welcome to check my latest post too :) Let me know your thoughts. Talk soon.

Too few of us really find what they want or need in this life :-)
I rediscovered photography only 8 years ago... i did had a first time in elementary school, my father was in journalism then and it liked me around 2-3 years, but was a kid and playing at tv shooting cartoons (ninja turtles) or other things around. I loved it. Then it walked away till 2008.
But most what i liked to do were to be among people, normal and live people. Not dead like 90% of todays life... Heh, thats another story.

Too many sheeps and bots today. That next to the busiest people that haven't time to talk but they do absolutely nothing all day, except texting, selfies and fuqing hahahaa. Damn sheeps. The wolf will come...
I am already laughing. Nice to talk here man.
cya

Such an interesting comment, Zane. I, too, hated school but ended up training as a teacher. My English teacher was horrified when I went back to do teaching prac - I had a degree in English and I'd been in the dof class. I so get you: school cannot teach intelligence and many schools can almost drill it out of you. Intelligence is a combination of knowledge and being able to distinguish between the crap/fake news and the real news and "proper" knowledge because you have the savvy to ask the right questions and discertn the "right" answers. Good on you for taking a stand, but don't dis all learning and formal learning: use it to suit you and to benefit you. Go for it!

Amen to that! Wow, like 90% of these comments are as long as school essays haha! Takes so much longer to get through, but I love it so much.

Awesome comment. I love it how so many teachers are coming upfront about this, and actually agreeing to this. It's really a cool sight.

I agree completely with what you're saying.. And yeah, it's not that I disregard all learning whatsoever, it's more a case to prove a point that I will never, ever study so I can have some words on a piece of paper. I strongly disagree with that, and don't need it to tell me my wisdom :) That's all. If I find a genuinely awesome course or learning experience, I will jump in!

Thanks for the comment. If you haven't yet, you can go see my latest post. Talk soon.

Will check out your post and have followed you. Your post inspired me to post, here, a post from my original blog. It's called "Going back to school - a growing up" feel free to check it out!

That's really awesome that I was able to inspire you. I will check it out for you!

I followed you too! Talk soon.
