POETRY: Phoenix Rises

in #poetry8 years ago

Phoenix Rises

Twisted metal, from nightmares that have grown
Bitter pavement that leads me from my own
Crooked wonder of towers sent from hell
Into madness from within a padded cell

The raven flies under a darkened sky tonight
If wisdom was it would not stay here to fight
Of wounded souls that lay on rubbled ground
That rises up and grows upon the mound

Yet in the death does one hear the child's cries
As scavengers seek them out for their turn to die
From hearts of darkness that seek to snuff out life
But in the darkness does the child reveal its light

As dogs of war are want to buy a life
What price is put upon this endless night?
But life is kept as the keepers seek to hold
So that in the dawn let life once more unfold

What's duty bound will surrender all it is
These dreams of life, no longer will they slip
Into cracks that hold such beauty here at bay
What's born will die; so here let evil lay

The eye, a twinkle; brings the world its joy
To build a world that cannot be destroyed
For what is life but an endless proving ground?
To prove to us that love is surely sound

The countless dreams left upon the shelf
For the fear that too much pain in them is felt
But unpack the dream before it seeks to rot
The child will grow into the author of it's plot

Twisted metal, put away your plans
Bitter pavements that walk upon the man
Wonder no more upon how things went so wrong
From madness hear the singer sing her song

The crow does seek a friendship from the land
A wisened one that lives a life so grand
A soul does rise out of the depths of hell
To put an end to the Archonic spell

That's fantastic Scott. Reading it while listening to violin music from the Symphony event I got to attend tonight also, very eerie backdrop music to read this piece to!

Thanks so much for the comment. Great style of music to accompany this to, based on the theme, and the mood I was aiming for. Thanks for sharing.

This is one of those poems I want to read over and over. Such beautiful imagery, lyrical too. Love it
