Can I buy a ticket here? (Central Station part IV of VI)

in #photography7 years ago

I found a way! And here it is, the waiting room hall of Antwerp Central. Isn’t it majestic? It looks a bit like a Church... the Church of the holy traveller 😉

I must admit I’m a bit curious now how the ceiling of this church looks like. Did they use arches? Let’s go and have a look. But first I have to go down these stairs... see you all there!

You missed the start of my Antwerp Central adventure?

No stress... just click on the following thumbnails to see the first picture in this series...

Stay tuned to see the next pictures of this station...
Please, don't forget to resteem if you like this photo adventure... I'm sure others will like it too!

Other series of pictures I shot in Antwerpen...

I made a whole series of shots of a bicycle tunnel located in Antwerp in urbex-style. If you are curious to see them just click on the thumbnail to see the original post...

Came back today to tweet your post out. Still beautiful!

Thanks Sharon, appreciate it very much! What's your tweet name? I don't use it a lot, but I have a twitter account too, @Pixelfanfoto ...

I'm @fitinfunsharon and I'm pretty active there. I have a steemer twit list and I will put you on it. If I see anything I'll rt.

This week I just decided to rt the people I resteemed in the last few days and I think I will keep that up. I haven't found too many steemer tweeters yet, but I think I will as time goes on :)

Yep, found you and... followed of course 😂

Hi @pixelfan - you are on this list of ex-tsuvians that @Kalemandra put out a couple of days ago. I guess we do not get notified when people @ mention us here. Maybe you want to go check in so everyone knows you are an active steemer :)

Your photos are gorgeous. I lived in Antwerp for a year and it has stayed with me. I'll be sure to go down this rabbit hole. I love how you are linking to older posts and I can't wait to see the bike tunnel shots!

Hi Sharon, thanks for the compliment! Funny to find eachother here... when did you live in Antwerp? Was it for a job?
Btw : thanks for pointing me to that list, just commented on it so I should be added with the next update. And I hope you will enjoy the bike tunnel shots as much as I did taking them 😉 You visited it when living here?

I was there is 1979 and I lived in a few hotels in the core of the city and traveled with my crazy girlfriend all over the place in the region and beyond. She basically dragged me behind her and we lived very well.

Her Uncle gave us work and he was related to the port. I think her parents wanted her out of their hair and she was allowed to bring a friend so that was me. We answered phones in English all over the place and I never knew what was going on but I'd say it was nefarious.

Mostly we went on vacation to places with pools and to bars and casinos. We were swimming friends before this for a few years. Both of us jump in any water we see so that's what we did.

My memories of this time are vivid but not sharp lol. A good memory is climbing out the widow to the roof of the hotel with her drinking champagne from a bottle and looking at the view. Antwerp was so beautiful to me. And different in every way from home.

I spent a day without her in a huge museum building full of bugs and butterflies on pins in cases. That was the most relaxing day of the whole adventure.

And who can forget your cobblestones! My blood might still be on them. This was the disco age and the only time I've ever worn heels. I fell over a lot there!

You also had the best feta cheese of my life, but a Greek guy got it for me somewhere hidden. All the food was stunning. There was some restaurant that dumped a big jar of truffles on the table for your dessert and trust me I ate enough for everyone.

I am so glad to be remembering this today. We did so many things. This girl had energy and she would just basically take over. Follow or die!

What a story!!! But I can imagine it was lot's of fun... enough places here to have fun 😄
But 1979... my god... lot's of things have changed a lot here... think you will only recognise some older buildings like the station and the cathedral.... and maybe also some out-of-time café's that will always be there... like the one's around the "Grote Markt"...

I'm sure that is true. I remember a big square we crossed a lot but the whole year is a bit of a blur. It took me a good month to recover in the end!

It's so sad to see the old disappear - hopefully they save as much as they can. I was buying cheese off the street there - so delicious. There is NO! and I mean NO! good cheese in Thailand in case you wonder :)

Wow! You're right, it looks like a church! Amazing pic!

Thank you very much! Appreciate that!

Majestic is the right word indeed.

Yes, I don't often take the train... but I regularly go to the station. Always something new to discover and I like the mood overthere...
