Hello dear readers! Have you ever thought about a more sustainable way o life? Would you live in a mud house?

I had been hitchhiking Patagonia for at least a month when I got to Chile Chico in southern Chile. The trip that had started in early January was exhausting, thus by the time I reached the Gen. Carrera Lake, I had no more money left.

When you are hitchhiking with almost no money in your pockets you gotta find solutions, that's the first routine in a new town.

  • Where will I sleep?
  • What will I eat?

It's necesary to think fast or night will get you, you don't want to find yourself wandering at night, even if the city is as calm as a desert. In a situation like that, the first thing I do is to check hidden places on the surroundings, then I try to find some friendly person willing to share his/her garden to place my tent. I gotta say it had worked like a charm before, I've slept in all sorts of crazy places all over Patagonia, no problem.

After a couple hours of exploration I had already found some nice hidden places by the lake, plan A was set.

Plan B had just started when the lovely woman at the touristic center recomended me to talk to Mr. Juan Pablo, according to her, a great young man who liked to help backpackers. Great! Let's go there!

Following the lake I found him at his place, called Patagonia Activia, it's a tourism company that rents kayaks and takes tourists to horse rides, trekkings and all. Even thouth it's his business, that doesn't stop Juan Pablo from helping those who need, he found me a place at his yard to put my tent and gave me full access to the house, and he met me that day... Can you believe? The world is indeed full of good people.

What a great place that was, full of alternative solutions for illumination, water supply and ecological construction. Most part of the house was build using mud bricks, turning the house into a cozy place, there was even a mud oven that I would've used to cook some bread if I had more time.

That all brought my attention to ecological and sustainable living. How we can live perfectly in a simple way, without a lot of technological devices and fancy furniture. So I'd like to know from you.

Would you live in a mud house? What solutions to you adopt to be more sustainable?

Beautiful..I love the earth oven. Last time we made one it got eaten by cows and I really want to make another one!!!

I was talking about that 10 min ago with my dad! We want to build one to bake bread and pizza.
Was it difficult to build?

It was fun!!! We got a big tarp, threw mud and straw and a bit of water together, put on some techno music and danced until it was all mooshed up. We'd made a form out of sand and put some straw and mud etc on it. I wish I could find it - I made a dragon out of mud to sit on top of it!!! I have a great book on it too. If you maybe discord me your email address I'll scan the important bits and send it to you. xx

HAHAH love it! Working and dancing, the best way to get things done, I'll try.
Sure, I'll try to learn how to use discord later today, guess I'll have to leave the cave and embrace technology hahahahaha

Its just I don't want to give out other details of mine in public here 😁... I don't use Discord much...no time!

Same here! But I'll find a way and I'll let you know. No worries
