#3 INVALUABLE RESOURCES ON STEEMIT

in #newbieresteemday6 years ago (edited)

Hey everyone!

Today I want to share 3 things that I have found invaluable since I joined steemit 2 short months ago; I'm hoping others will as well!

#1 @newbieresteemday

First and foremost, If you haven't yet heard of it, I'd like to introduce @newbieresteemday! One of the things that I've learned here is the importance of becoming a part of a community; it especially helps anyone who has ever felt like a little fish in a big pond. @newbieresteemday is for everyone; if you are new to steemit, if you've been here for a bit, if you just feel like you're struggling, OR if you're interested in becoming a part of something amazing, please have a look at @newbieresteemday, started by @davemccoy and @mudcat36. It began as a resteem initiative for 'newbies' but has taken off with currently over 50+ members that are all selflessly working together.

@beeyou did a wonderful job recapping EVERYTHING that's been going on here: https://steemit.com/newbieresteemday/@beeyou/weekly-recap-for-newbieresteemday-2nd-edition .
(image credit to the amazing @beeyou:)

You can also check out @amarie's post where she highlights great posts called "Minnow Monday"...you guessed it...every Monday https://steemit.com/newbieresteemday/@amariespeaks/minnow-mondays-this-week-s-resteemed-newbies
and @wanderlass's every Friday https://steemit.com/newbieresteemday/@wanderlass/minnow-fridays-2-valentine-edition-75e8670eafe2. They both find awesome 'newbie' posts to resteem.

There are so many cool things going on with this group like contests, mentoring, awesome resteems etc; just do yourself a favour and check out their feed too.

Also, here's a link to our Discord channel :https://discord.gg/49JKzvp. It's a great place to meet and talk to everyone!

Please have a look; I promise you won't be disappointed!

#2 Steemworld.org

If you are not using https://steemworld.org/, please consider it. It is an awesome site created by @steemchiller that shows your voting power, where your bandwidth is at, all the comments and votes you've given and received and also a little tab that shows your upcoming rewards. I am not doing it justice with that explanation so here is @steemchiller's post introducing and explaining it :https://steemit.com/steem/@steemchiller/welcome-to-steemworld-org

There's so much more to this site, but suffice it to say it is an amazing tool and I keep it open at all times, but unfortunately forget to check it sometimes, which then makes me suffer from voting power woes, until @bashadow expained to me how to use the manual vote slider on steemworld.org , even if you don't have a lot of steem power.

Here is the link to his page that explains how to do just that https://steemit.com/justbecause/@bashadow/using-steemworld-manual-vote-on-comments. What I love about this is that I can allocate a higher percentage of my voting power to exceptional blogs and perhaps a little less to those comments that I love, or perhaps the comments on my own posts. The point is, this slider allows me to spread the upvoting love further than if I was giving 100% to everyone.

#3 @GINAbot

(credit to @kemane who just came up with the new design)

Next is a little gal I met here called @ginabot ...and no, she is NOT an upvoting bot; GINA stands for General Instant Notification Automaton, developed by @neander-squirrel. She notifies you of replies, comments etc., but what I love about her is this: Let's say someone mentions you in a post of their own, or you mention someone in your own post and never hear from that person; how would you/they ever find out?? Well @ginabot lets you know everytime someone mentions your name anywhere on steemit and Discord!! Here's a link to a post from some time ago that I wrote praising her abilities! https://steemit.com/steemit/@lynncoyle1/ever-wonder-is-someone-is-mentioning-you-in-a-blog-here-s-your-answer

She does so much more for you, so here is an amazing detailed guide written by @ilyastarar as well: https://steemit.com/ginabot/@ilyastarar/how-to-use-ginabot-and-get-steemit-seamless-notifications-for-free

I hope that you find these useful, I know I sure have!

You can also see below that I'm a member of @steemitbloggers, another wonderful family I've connected with here. If you want to see the amazing talent that goes on there, please check out @steemitbloggers started by @jaynie, because I cannot leave them out of this blog, but the full details of my love for these peeps is for another blog :)

Hope you enjoyed my valuable resources!

If you have resources of your own to add, please leave them in your comments for others to see and enjoy!!

Thank you and Cheers!

Have you been getting OW upvote? I thought it died a while ago.

If you sign up for Busy.org (which is a Steemit overlay) and post using "busy" as one of your tags, you'll get an upvote from them. The size of the upvote depends on how much SP your followers have, but it seems to be a decent amount. (more than $0.01)

Haha until you asked the question, I hadn't really noticed...It was just a habit. I'll have to have a look now that you say that.

And that's an awesome tip @themanwithnoname!! Thanks! And I totally want to upvote your comment, but I've depleted mine horribly...I want to spread the love, but it's killing me haha
Thanks for stopping by as always! Cheers :)

No worries. There are a lot of people I follow just because I like them, not because I get upvotes. Don't even worry about it. I was going to recharge my voter, but I can give many more small votes than big votes, so I just keep powering up and eventually I'll have enough that even my small votes will be powerful!

Let me know if you need help. :)

Thank you so much! Right back atcha buddy :)

Actually, running out of voting power prompted me writing this! It was @bashadow who showed me how to use the slider, but it came way to late...I'd ended up around 40% yikes! So I've just gotta stay strong and keep my mouse away from that little triangle :)

40% you say?

Your move! :D

hahaha that's awesome and completely rewardable !!!

YEEEEEEES! That's all I ever wanted. I can finish this day knowing that I won one: The most pathetic VP award. :D Thanks!

thank you for including me in your post! 💗💗

All three are so important ! #newbieresteemday gave me a community/friends/support - Steemworld.org improved my curator skills 100 fold and without @ginabot I would never be able to keep up with all the awesomeness in the world of steemit !

What a helpful post @lynncoyle1 👏👏👏

Thanks so much @amariespeaks! I couldn't live without all three ;)

This is some great piece of advice for everyone, particularly the newbies. I like it a lot. Have upvoted it with 100% power; will resteem it later and will be putting it in my curation post later today. :)

Thank you so much @sharoonyasir, I appreciate your kind words and the fact that you are resteeming and adding it to your curation post. That's very nice of you to do. I think it's great if everyone helps everyone out here, this entire platform will be more successful. Too bad the whole world's not like that, right?:) But I guess we simply surround ourselves with those who are. Thank you again, it's much appreciated. Cheers:)

I really appreciate the sacrifice that a lot of users are making with the newbie resteem day, but I prefer to only resteem a few when I feel others should really check them out. Resteems can really get in the way of users reading your own posts. I prefer to just upvote.

I think curation posts are probably a better idea for most users, as it only takes up one post, and lets them highlight a few new users at once.

Also, SteemWorld has been an invaluable tool for me! I keep it open 24/7, watching the feed for comments and upvotes.

Thanks so much @geekpowered; I appreciate your thoughts. I think you're right about resteeming also. I made sure to resteem only those that I thought were "worth" it, and offered advice to others. That's the way it was supposed to work, not simply a mass resteeming day. I like that this initiative has become so much more though, and I think the curation posts have been an added bonus too.

SteemWorld is awesome, isn't it! Is there the "notification" element on it though like ginabot has...I mean when your name is only mentioned in a post, not a specific comment or reply? I'd love to know that!

Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting; I really want to upvote your comment but my voting power is so low that I simply have to force myself not too:) I'm a giver...it's really hard to do that btw! Thanks again, Cheers!

SteemWorld doesn't notify you of mentions like ginabot does. I just primarily use it to watch for comments and upvotes.

Gotcha! Thanks for letting me know :) That's why gina will continue to be my new main girlfriend :)

Thank you for sharing this. Sorry I dont have the time to write a great comment. It is good information. I am resteeming your post :)

Thanks for stopping by...I totally appreciate we all have other lives to live besides our life on steemit:) Thanks for the resteem too...hope it's some new info for you and others. I think if we all keep helping each other out, this place will continue to be amazing! Cheers:)

The more information I get the better it is, even if it isn't new. I sometimes struggle to understand all of this or it is so much that I can't retain the information. The more I read, the more I can connect the dots and the more I can remember. Helping each other is key. Working towards a great place ^_^ xx

I agree completely. When I first started I had sticky notes all over the place and a journal beside me that I was always scribbling in. Eventually, I too began to connect the dots! It's a work in progress for sure though:)

Great post Lynn! You are doing an awesome job of keeping the community aware of the tools that are out there to help us thrive!

Hey @rwedegis! Thanks for stopping by...I realise I've missed you and need to make my way over to your 'house' :) My voting power is so low that I've been trying not to use it, so I've been waiting to come see you...just in case you thought I'd forgotten about you haha So glad you found this useful! Thanks again :)

Hey Lynn, you are such a sweetheart! I know that you have a lot on your plate with all that's going on in your life! I hope that all the love that you are giving forward is coming back to you triplefold!
Heart_2.jpg

Thank you so much Roger! I'd say on here, with nice people like you, the loves comes back triple for sure :)

This is educating. I only knew @ginabot prior to reading this post

Oh I'm so glad that you found it useful! Think about joining the @newbieresteemday initiative too; it's an amazing group of people all helping each other, working as a team. I'm glad you learned something here too; I was a high school teacher for years, and it really makes my heart warm when I can still educate on here :) Cheers!

That was great, I only learned about @ginabot ...a few days ago, and am trying it out, very sneaky little girl she is kind of like santa clause know when your being nice.;-}, so far I like it.

haha gina's my new girlfriend :) She is pretty amazing for sure. Glad you liked the post, and thanks for stopping by. As you are well aware, my voting power is exhausted, or I'd be sending some love your way for sure! Cheers and thanks for stopping by :)

Lynn, this is a very good article... Not only because you list us in there, but I love the helpful nature of it... It is clear and easy to understand! Very good post!!! And hope everything is well, I'm very behind :P

Thanks @davemccoy! I can feel/hear the frantic in your typing here...don't bite off more than you can chew buddy...it'll kill you in the end :)

Thanks for asking, I'm doing ok...Brian's had some tough days..so naturally, so have I :(
Hope you are well too; perhaps your name should be superdave :)

I'm sorry if it came off as rude... I didn't mean that at all... I was rushed to catch up on the day but I never want you to think that I don't have time for you... Seriously they can all wait as friends come first over getting things done! I mean that, so now I'm going to write you an extra long note!

Your post was good and I had saved it for about 12 hours or so... I had some other things going so I wanted to have a smooth flow of information!... I really did want to resteem and comment on it and of course also upvote it, because 1) I liked the simple but well displayed information to the community and 2) I liked that you did it!

Sometimes I get so busy, and I know I miss a lot of things, so every once in awhile I want you to know that I appreciate what you do and who you are! Because I do! I notice things but don't always say something. And that is probably one of my biggest flaws... I take for granted that you know how much I respect you, and frankly I shouldn't do that. I should've taken the time to write you a good message so that you know I really liked your post (and that I liked you for who you are).

So hopefully I seem less frantic in this message to you, and I am happy that you said something because you should know that you are truly appreciated!

On another note, I hope Brian's day is a little better tomorrow and by extension I hope your day is brighter too! I know it is rough and if you ever want to talk, just let me know and I'll be there for you!

Geez Dave, I never meant to infer that you were being rude; I'm a realist and understand that you are busy and I appreciate that you took the time to leave me a message, even if it was short haha

Seriously, I too consider you my friend, and what goes with that is the knowledge that I know you'd never do anything intentionally or unintentionally for that matter, to hurt me. And besides, my skin is pretty thick...remember with age comes wisdom and I trust who you are as a person now and that you have my best interests at heart, so please don't second guess what you've said or done. I too have your best interests as heart...I'm so glad we connected here.

Thank you also for your comments about Brian; he says thank you as well. Here's hoping that tomorrow is a better day. Have an awesome night and thank you again!

Good I'm glad you didn't think I was rude... I'm a bit sensitive about hurting other person's feelings so I'm glad I didn't show you disrespect!

I hope you have a good evening... and if you get a chance tomorrow and feel like it, I would like to talk about doing something with apolymask... They said you are aware of what he is doing!

Have a good night and tell Brian I wish him a nice day tomorrow!

ok we're good then! I'll talk to you tomorrow re: @apolymask. Message me if it's easier. Have a good night as well!

omg, look at @davemccoy go! He's always too darn polite if I must say so.

Hope you both are doing well @lynncoyle1. I know every day is a blessing for you two.

Thanks @beeyou, we are doing ok here; you're right!

And yes @davemccoy is polite! Cheers:)

@davemccoy -you're behind! I'm just getting to THIS post now!! Now that is super behind.

@lynncoyle1, instead of typing in another reply, and since I know you too use ginabot ;), really great post! Thanks for highlighting our members' posts. I absolutely love the borders by @doctorcrypto (Thank you sir!). I'm missing out on so much. GRR, I take some time off Steemit and I miss everything!

I missed an evening and I feel like I have a weeks worth of catching up to do! You ladies are amazing!

hahaha don't feel bad; there always seems to be waaaayyyy too much going on all of the time here! If I skip Dave's post, or your's for that matter, for a day or so, and then have a look, I feel like I've been away for a month :) It used to drive me crazy, but I've given myself permission to NOT have to be involved in everything...that's a difficult thing for me because I HATE missing out:) Thanks for stopping by @beeyou....and if no one told you today, you are awesome!

@Dave tells me that all the time. My head is a tad bit inflated really. 🙂

Yes, everything moves so fast. It is hard to catch up with it all.

Very helpful and insightful. About the first you mentioned on your post @newbieresteemday, i got to know about it yesterday from @davemccoy.Subsequently, i authored a post in which i tagged #newbieresteemday and to my surprise, there hasn't been any sign of help from that corner to my post. I am also trying to join the discord channel. I hope they can help because @davemccoy's words made me believe they can.

Hi @kenneth1! Well, let me see what I can do for you:)

Firstly, here's the link to the Discord channel https://discord.gg/49JKzvp, and there you can connect with everyone, all the time. I find it so helpful.

I will also check out your post and I can them resteem it to our @newbieresteemday feed, that way more people will hopefully see it. Please believe in @davemccoy and all of us; I think what you're witnessing is the abundance of help we are all trying to give...there ends up being a queue of sorts I think.

Thank you so much for stopping by, and I hope this helps you. Hope to see you on discord soon!

I joined the discord already. I joined last night and its been amazing.
I'd be happy to have you check out my post and resteem. That will mean alot to me. thanks so much !

Thanks for catching this!

My pleasure @beeyou! That's one of the things I really like about this group...everyone picks up slack everywhere necessary and no one's worried about stepping on anyone's toes; It really is a wonderful team effort:)
