It's In Your Head, Zom-bay, Zom-bay, Zom-bay-ay-ay-ay-oh-oh: emo edition
I don't know if this is something that is common with everyone or not, but I seemingly wake up with a song already in my head every single morning. There is often no reason why it should be there. I hadn't heard it in the previous day, hadn't discussed it, nothing.
TODAY'S ENTRY:
THE GET UP KIDS - Ten Minutes
I definitely know how this one got in my head. It's because of a t-shirt that my brother and wife got me when they were on vacation. It's for a restaurant cheekily named Onion Maiden (like Iron Maiden) and the back of the shirt features the phrase "two minutes to meal time" on the back.
For some reason, even seeing this shirt (I wore it yesterday) gets this Get Up Kids song in my head, despite the fact that the phrase on the back of the shirt is quite obviously not referencing this lovelorn emo classic, but rather this bad-as-hell metal classic:
That's the rightful champion between these two songs, but justice does not always prevail.
What can I say? I came of age in the 90s in the midwest and loved me some emo. I saw the Get Up Kids in a basement with like 10 people in the crowd. I have emo bragging rights. ha.
I once had the former manager of Iron Maiden (or just some crazy old guy... I took his word for it) say he liked my band when we played in Edinburgh. So there's that... I guess?
Do you wake up with songs in your head on a regular basis? What song was in your head this morning? Comment below, I'd love to hear from you!
