Mini Motivation: Love the skin your in...
I've been through hell and back to be here and you know what I have learned....
Acceptance is key, love the skin your in!
I'll live my entire life with an ostomy bag but without it I'd be in a box with no life to live at all.
I chose life in spite of the challenges thrown at me.
It still amazes me how many people tell me that they could never live with a bag...
I think it's a symbol of courage and strength and you would be surprised what you can live with when there is no other choice.

I couldn't agree more. This is true for everything really. Fighting with reality is such a waste of energy and gets us nowhere. 😊
Don't get me wrong I fought it for over two years and had 12 surgeries, it wasn't until I met @shai-hulud and got fed up with having no life due to being in and out of hospital so much that we made the choice together and have been much healthier and stronger for it since. :)
That sounds the perfect way to do it to me @insideoutlet. You gave it every chance to work out differently and then made the choice when the time was right. 😍
@gillianpearce Exactly, I don't think I could have done it any earlier or without my loving husband at my side, I was lucky to find him and that he loved me damaged and all, he made me whole again. ❤️

100% agree with you here. People that are healthy and have always been healthy don't know the process that we have been through to have to be at the point of having to live with a bag.
But its true, without my bag I'd be in the ground, so its a small price to pay.
I wouldn't wish it on my worse enemy the things I had to endure but it kills me when I visit potential ostomates in hospitals and they are prepared to sign the 'Do not resuscitate' form rather than live life with a bag, one young lady signed it and was prepared to die even after she saw that my life was worth living, it's wasn't until the moment arrived that she changed her mind and then spent weeks in ICU as she was so ill going into the surgery, if she had agreed a week earlier she could have saved herself that pain but everyone has to go through there own process, she still to this day hates the bag but she is alive and will see her 30th birthday with I think is good. She now just needs to find a way to accept herself but sadly many do not and spend all their time and energy hating the life they have been given.
I love that there are other ostomates on Steemit too, not many but a few of us. However in saying that there could be more but none as open. I have gina tag me if anyone uses the word ostomy but mainly its the shit posts advertising the bag markets that comes through.

People may be like me, I'm quite open about my bag, but I never seek support, never did support groups or any of that. They may not like talking about it at all.
I think my opinion of life with a stoma might be a lot different if I were single though, as that would be a hell of a thing to have to mention to girls on a date. The rejection would cause some serious mental problems. Even if the rejections were related to the stoma, you would think that was the secret meaning behind it.
Very very true, I was dumped the night before my surgery, he actually wished me dead on the operating table, charming bloke and the best thing he ever did for me, but being single was so so hard as I truly believed that no one would or could love me like this. I was very wrong but your head will go where it does and I was super lucky to meet a man that had zero issues with my illness or the bag, just loved me for me. :)

Got it in one, funny thing, he contacted me on FB a few years later and told me it was only cause he loved me so much that he didn't want anyone else to have me... WTF... Some people, I can tell you I wasn't so kind before I blocked him.
Realizing that love is key is showing love to others is a key to healing...in my experience. So refreshing to read you are on this path in life. The pain is still real. But it is amazing to read your story of conquering the hate.
I think that self-love is part of acceptance so I agree with your sentiment above too :) I didn't like myself for may years, even cried in front of the mirror when I had to get out of my clothes but now I advocate for people with similar conditions and I find that helping others helps me too.

Watch how many change their view when it no longer becomes a choice . I can tell you that I do not want a bag . I am avoiding it at all cost , almost . If the time comes and I hope not , there is no choice to be made .
Life is so much more than a bag attached to one's stomach as you have shown . Except that repel down a 4 ft hill , mound . LOL WTG !!!!
I spent a long time fighting it and it wasn't until I met @shai-hulud and got fed up with having no life due to being in and out of the hospital that we made the choice together to go permanent instead of getting another j-pouch, which could have meant not living with a bag, but I was in so much pain with the last one that in the end the choice was easy and I have been much healthier and stronger since. :)
I am glad it worked out . I understand the pain involved and to be free of that is in itself a blessing . If I may ask what was your symptoms , ulcerative colitis or Crohns and was it just in the Colon
I was diagnosed with UC first and then Crohns, but have had no issues since going permenant, I still have a fistula but that gives me little grief now aswell.
Thanks for the infomation its important . Do you still have problems with inflammation or is that under control
I guess I should explain . I have UC and Crohns and its not limited to the colon . So its a little more then curiosity
UC would be limited to the colon only, it can't go anywhere else, Crohn's can affect the entire digestive tract. I gathered that you may have had one of them, I have no issues with inflammation now but only my large intestine, rectum and a very small portion of the small bowel was affected. so they just removed it all. We tried saving the rectum for a j-pouch, but had nothing but issues so out it went too...

Its generally one or the other not both. So if it effects the entire tract then its Crohn's. You can present woth UC with tendies of the other which is what I had in the end..
