How To Make It BIG on Steemit - Minnows' Wheel of Fortune

The Steem Of Fortune Minnow Rulz

SteemOfFortune.png

It is one of my favorite subjects - writing an article about Steemit on Steemit - particularly for Minnows and Newbees. I am learning from this experience as I think it through, develop and implement my rulz.

You saw @globocop articles on how to build a great Value Follow-hip, How to Add graphic Dividers to your posts, read the Concise Guide to Witnesses, How to Multiply Comment Rewards and How to Preen Your Account to make it grow quickly.

After 74 days on the Steemit job, I can see the value of my account growing. And I see it groooOOOWING even faster - Exponentially!

Today, dear friends, I would like to show, how Minnows like you and I can make it BIG here on Steemit. How to deliver the best possible Steemit experience for yourself, How to realize our potential to the Max - and How to have fun doing it!

Short on Money - Can't Invest?

This time, we will discover exciting tips on how to approach Steemit without investing large funds. Please know, that I am applying these rules - with near iron discipline. You see, your creativity, your effort is your investment.

This is how the Steem Minnows Wheel of Fortune came about. It helps me to keep focused, while at the same time having fun! There is no loser on the wheel. Following a few of them will pay off - sticking to more will make the win faster and greater.

I hope it does the same for you! So let's get into it...

When I was just starting on Steemit, some 74 days ago, I had what everyone gets - Minnow minimum - the 27 delegated Steem Power (SP) to get me started. I am grateful I had it!

I am now at over 200k Steem Power. Of these, I delegated 101SP to the Minnowsupport Project, and I will add more on the coming weeks. Reading this, one may wonder, Why on earth would he do that, given he only had 200k?

I come to that in a minute, so stick around...

But first, let's look how I approach Steemit now and in the near future.

I see Steemit as a....

Safe Deposit Box 💰

I consider Steemit to be a Safe Deposit Box I don't have access to, or better, I don't want access to - for now...

Let's face it, dear Minnow compatriots: Steemit is not for making a quick buck when starting out with basic funds.

The majority of Minnows will probably fail trying to turn their account quickly into a Gold mine one can live on.

However...

Can one prosper from being part of Steemit? Absolutely. This is my declared goal - and I am working toward it.

And to that end, I have set myself 10 Globo Minnow Rulz, which I am following as best as I can, which almost certainly guarantee long-term success. Is that not what we want? There are a total of 12 segments on our Steem of Fortune, representing 10 Success Principles.

Let's have a look:

Basic Wheel_Final.png

Here are the goodies... ...Easy to read!

Rule No. 1 - Quality

Deliver exceptional Quality with each and every post and comment! Never spam. Never plagiarize. Never get personal when disagreeing with someone else's view - no matter how aggressive or nasty the opponent may be.

Never beg for votes or follow-backs. I, for one, will be unlikely to engage again with someone who does. A sure way to land belly-up in the minnow pond...

Rule No. 2 - Preening

Preen and Clean Your account. Do that homework. It pays! Check out new followers daily...
Groom your existing follow-ship with smart curation and thoughtful comments.
Discover new content - curate that - and contribute with insights and value-adds. Because:

...Building your brand increases your reputation.

As we can see in this graph on Steemdb, there is a direct correlation between giving and receiving.

Rule No. 3 - That Picture Tells a Thousand Words

Use, if you can, at least one original graphic in your post that tells your story. It's the thumbnail picture that draws a Steemians' eyes 👀 to your post in favor of others. Make is colorful. Make it catchy. Use a catch phrase. From Paint to Gimp - any image editor will do the job.

The best dimensions for the thumbnail image are 800x450. All stays in frame. Nothing is cut off. Oh... before I forget...

Correction: It appears there may have been a change to the platform: I see images at 800x500 matching thumbnails at 100%.

...Here is a handy trick I learned though the Minnow Support Project.

Making any image in your post the thumbnail, regardless how many pictures 🖼 the posts has, or where they are...
Just enclose it in these tags:

<h1>http://imagelink</h1>.

Check out @virtashare in this post....

Good, isn't it?

Rule No. 4 - Boost'n Value

Boost as many posts as possible with some great voting-bots such as @discordia, @randowhale, @booster, if you have a few Steem Dollars or even pennies in your account. It is a small but good investment. Why...?

There is a snowball effect! When initial votes come in fast and high, your post gets much better visibility. It can make the difference between achieving cents or dollar amounts on a post.

source: dollarcents.org

It goes like this: From NEW --> Hot --> Trending, in that order. Just CHECK out the rewards in Trending - I am sure you've seen them. This is where you want your post to be. The first two hours of the life of a post are critical to its overall performance.

Also consider using the Promote button. You can promote your own posts, or that of a worthy Steemian. The money 'burned" goes back into the reward pool via the @null account. Everybody wins - and your post get's a promotion. You don't need to spend mega dollars to use promote... Even though your post may not make it to the top, it just may. Check out this useful post for more info.

It's also worth noting weekdays and time of days of postings and votes over a longer period of time - to determine which submission times achieve greater responses.

Luckily, there is an app for that! I am using Steemcharts.io, a real handy tool. Make sure you follow @steem.engine, its creator!

Rule No. 5 - FUN 🎉 Prizes

Participate in quality contests, such as @papa-pepper's frequent challenges, Here is my latest fun entry. Also, the brand-new Steemwizard competitions, or @fyrstikken's high paying challenges, or @dragosroua's Challenge30 Days, to name a few. It's an fun way to get to know the players on Steemit - achieve greater exposure and followship. Check out the tags in those posts, and you find many more...

Rule No. 6 Steem Power 🚂

This one - I consider the most important of all of the rules:

For now, never - ever - not for any reason - take a dime, cent or penny out of your Steem Power. Do not power down, until it has grown to an amount that I would consider sustainable to live on. See it as tabu money. Yes, it is real money - it is still money I didn't have before. You see, the account can only grow by not taking out in the early days.

Rule No. 7 Knowledge 📚

Knowledge is Power! Do you want Power? Gain at least three pieces of Steemit related knowledge per week. It may be about Steemit rules, upgrades, about Blockchain in general, or even Crypto related. The more we know...

An excellent way of getting the hottest tips fresh from the horses mouth is to join SteemSpeak with @Fyrstikken and other Steemit Greats. They know their stuff...

...successful and open to questions. Talking about learning from the best. Fyrstikken is usually on the Voice Channel, where he answers questions from Minnows like you and I - but he is also interested in you, your experience - your worldview - the geopolitical situation in your country. Time never wasted - and it's all with 🎶 music 🎶 in he background. Educational, and it beats main stream radio 📻 big time.

Rule No. 8 - Help Steemians

Support other Steemians who are in need by promoting their posts in your submissions and comments, the Steemit Discord Communities and in the various SteemitChat rooms. Doing good not only feels good, it also raises your standing and the respect in the community.

Rule No. 9 - MSP

Minnow Support Project (MSP)
Join PAL: Peace - Abundance - Liberty, the Minnow Support Project run by @aggroed, @ausbitbank and other great Steemians of all ranks out there. This one is a must-do for me.

MSP and PAL are doing tremendous work to support newcomers and long-life Minnows alike. We provide technical, tactical and voting support for everyone that joins. First, one registers at MSP, and from there one can chose one of two roads to membership:

  1. Join MSP's/PAL's Voting trail: This means you dedicate a percentage of your votes to the project. A good way of supporting others if there is little SP in the account.
  2. Delegate SP to any of our voting bots. It helps others, and you become part of an amazingly supportive community with the added bonus of receiving more votes from bots and Steemians alike.

Go, check it out... after reading this post... It's part of rulz 8, 9 and 10. 😎

Minnow Specific

If you're in dolphin, whale or even orca waters, different dynamics apply. These rules are for those of us who build our Steemit existence from the ground up - AND who want to make this a satisfying and profitable venture for many years to come.

Rule 10 - Time ⏰

I understand. Some of us cannot dedicate as much time to Steemit. Some may not want to put as much into it? The question is: How badly to you want to succeed? How much potential do you see on Steemit?

If we are not excited about the potential of a venture, if we don't set ourselves sky-high goals - we are unlikely to achieve what we long for.

Steemit requires effort, consistency and the desire to help others - not just promote ourselves. Helping others - there can be no better self promotion.

Animated.colorful.divider.gif

Are YOU excited about the potential on Steemit too? Will you set your rulz, your Steem of Fortune? Will you make them a habit, and become successful, too?

Nothing is impossible!
I hope that this post may inspire you to reach to the stars, too!

Thanks for reading. 😎

Hey @globocop , I have started a podcast recently where I interview other entrepreneurs.

The podcast is on my youtube channel, and here is the playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL5CpCNPna6p95oJfKPew0N3ZT0k-khdgg

We talk about what you are currently doing in life, your business as well as your journey and any lessons or advice you want the world to know.
A casual conversation about entrepreneurship, and about you.

Would you be interested in appearing on the show?

Hello @natchev Appreciate the offer but would like to take a rain check, as i would rather show more tangible results - the goals are set high - and there s more to this venture than meets the eye at this time.

@globocop that was a fantastic article and even being here over a month I realise I still have a lot to learn... but I am getting there, especially thanks to this.

Upvoted , resteemed and a new follower cheers.

Also a big shout out to @ausbitbank

anyone who doesn't know him should follow him and help him wherever possible. It's guys like these two who make steem worthwhile coming back to everyday.

Thanks guys.

@simondocherty
Thank YOU my friend from down-under... Much appreciate your feedback, follow and resteem!

One thing I would like to add is this: We can not always have brilliant -value-add ideas - I found myself this week in a writing hole. The best way to fill this void? Staying active by commenting/curating our feeds. It is often from others that we may gain new inspiration. I wrote about it 2 weeks ago.

Happy Weekend

Yes I know what you mean, I do the same. Keep the engagement up one way or the other.

Oh and you are my 100th follower woohooo. Cheers again.

Hey - that's a goodie...

Happy Sunday - tho it might be Mon morning by now?

This is an excellent write up @globocop! Lots of great info here, especially for newbies. Thank you!

Thank you sandzat. Much appreciate! Hopefully many more will get to see it. 😎

PS:// there are more helpful articles in my feed...

More people should definitely get to see it. It's got good structure, language and content. You seem to have spent much time and effort in creating it.

I'm resteeming it!

Thanks! I'll check out your other posts some time.

Upvoted and going to follow you. :)

Thanks sandzat, I followed you - for your constructive comments.
Also thanks for checking out other posts. / and for resteeming.

Have a great Sunday!

Thanks so much for the nicely formatted information! I've been on here a couple weeks now and have started doing more of these. At least I tried to start with rule 1, but I had no idea about the thumbnail trick... sweet!

Thanks for your feedback @therovingreader. Steemit is a jungle - at first... The knowledge rule will make it easier to follow all others...

Happy weekend.

PS:// Since you love reading, too, may i suggest the work of @richq11. Here is a brief review...

Sweet, thanks for the suggestion!

This post got a 22.35 % upvote thanks to @globocop - Hail Eris !

great post.. just wondering how much SP you would consider sustainable before powering down? thanks...

Thanks @foovler.

It depends on individuals' needs. I wouldn't consider cashing a weekly portion out until I have at least 100k SP.

thanks, good guideline.
