Minds.com Review- Another Way to Earn Crypto

in #minds6 years ago

I appreciate @tradergurl for mentioning this to me as I have never heard of Minds.com before.

Minds.com was first available on 2015 but since then have been trying to keep pace with Steemit. Why you may ask?

Well recently Minds implemented a Token based on ETH as a reward to authors and curators. They also created a wallet to store the token all within the Mind's platform. This all sounds familiar to Steemit right? Yet it took years after for Minds to incorporate a crypto into its platform. While Steemit from the get go had a crypto.

The platform allows users to earn crypto in several ways.

  • Post and curate content
  • Sell a subscription to have access to paid content
  • Sell advertisements on blog posts

The last one is an eye opener. To remind everyone social media platforms such as Facebo0k and YouTube have decided to ban advertisements related to crypto. So I can imagine crypto companies bombarding the Mines platform just because it can.

The theme of Minds is very identical to Steemit. Both platforms are focused to be decentralized and let users create their own content and freely earn and distribute crypto. They both have a means of saving and exchanging crypto through wallets within their respective platforms. (Note that Minds has implemented a 2FA authentication for access to wallets.) Both platforms allow users to create content in the form of blogs, videos, or pictures.

There are also major differences between the two platforms. One major one is Steemit has its own dedicated crypto that is integral to the platform. While Minds is using a token. Then there is the methods of earning rewards. On Steemit I have come to learn how users can create all kinds of methods to earn more Steem or use Steem to purchase goods and services. There are endless ways for users to earn and share rewards and as the day passes there are always new ways to earn. Steemit is truly a decentralized platform. While Minds is also advertising that they are decentralized too, but methods of utilizing its token beyond the platform is lacking in comparison to Steemit.

Whether it is Steemit or Minds each has its benefits and drawbacks. For me I will stick to Steemit and skip Minds. First impression of Minds is that they are trying to catch up to the success of Steemit. Yet I think if Steemit is better than why switch.

Thanks for reading.

Thanks for the mention, just wanted to add some more info about MInds and what it's like there, I've been a member for about a year now.

First and foremost, if you're interested in politics and you lean anything slightly left of 'hard right' then expect a lot of resistance - a fair amount of posts are far right, lot of swastikas, kill the jews / blacks / anyone who isn't white. All discussions about politics inevitably ends in 'hitler did nothing wrong' and 'race war now'.

There are a couple of liberalists on there, mostly of the Kekistani variety (of which I am one). There are no lefties, no feminists, no sjw and very few (openly) women. I pretend to be a guy on there. There are very few normies.

The mentality there is very 'chan, lots of younger members so expect a load of memes and reference to chan culture that you might not get. Most of the people there are there because they've been kicked off and banned from YouTube, Twitter and Facebook.

Don't be surprised if any and all posts quickly turn into flame wars, because it happens a lot. Even posts about the most innocuous things can quickly turn into people calling you a jew and threatening to kill you. Remember, it's mostly just stupid kids and it's all chan culture, so take it all with a pinch of salt and just laugh...

There are no restrictions on copyright like here where copyright abuse is frowned on. On Minds, the largest members channels are entirely spammed stolen content from YouTube, without credits. That's one of the reasons why I chose to come here, because they dished out the crypto based on peoples points, where the spammers made off with hundreds of thousands and the genuine writers of articles got virtually nothing. It has the same level of corruption as the whales do on here.

Saying all that.. it's actually a good platform ! The interface is easy to use, pretty stable and looks nice. Pretty similar functions to here, but more like Busy.org with notifications and other social media functions that Steemit is badly lacking.

The response rate to articles was very high (negative or positive) because there wasn't a negative effect by voting people up and decreasing the reward pool. There is a lot more user interaction on Minds with posts getting hundreds and hundreds of genuine comments, not "I follow you, follow me back" or vote begging like on here.

So that's it really, if you can stay out of politics then you'll do very well. If you're into discussions then being brought up on chans and chan culture will help, if you're a normie you'll be way out of your depth a lot of the time. Minds isn't a very 'nice' place, people don't hold back on their opinions of you, like they do on here.

Steemit is more for 'grown ups', Minds is the social media version of 4chan.

Wow response is great! Thanks for the tips. I look forward to the trying the platform.

Thanks. I just wanted to warn people that if they came from somewhere like Facebook to here, and then go on to Minds, it might be a bit of a culture shock, lol.

Thanks for this detailed review. At least I will go there ready to be shocked.

@mawit07 remember to find Cryptolize and Smartcash on minds.com we are on there, i also created the smartcash group on there, new so it can only grow.

Awesome thanks for making me aware of it!

@hockleyj Then I shall see you there.

Funny, I signed up for minds.com just yesterday. Made a couple of posts then, just wondered what to do next. I need to do more research.

Also discovered wildspark and kucoin. You should look into those aswell.
Cheers

Nice. I too just learned of wildspark and synereo. Made a post on those a couple days ago. Feels like those too are somewhat difficult to earn crypto as they both start off members basically at zero crypto. Not like steemit where I got a few SP delegated to me when I first started.

Kucoin is cool too as it is a passive income. There is Coss and BCO too. So you nice stuff.
Thanks for the comment.

I’ve never heard of minds. What crypto is it using? Is it decentralised too?

Words straight out of the creators themselves. The crypto is a ERC-20 token so ETH wallets work using it.

Minds rewards you with crypto for contributing to the network. The first step in joining our rewards program is to provide your mobile number. We convert your number into a hash ID using SHA-256 encryption and a salt key to create a unique identifier for your account. We do not store your number on our servers.

Rather than rewarding you with Points in real-time, we are now distributing our crypto rewards as a “Daily Reward Pool”. During the test network, we will be experimenting with how the Daily Reward Pool is calculated, but it will ideally be automated based on user participation once we move into the Main Ethereum network.

Every day, we measure your contributions to the network and you receive a “Contribution Score” which can be found in the Contributions section of your wallet. We then calculate how much you contributed to the network relative to the entire community, which determines the percentage of the Daily Reward Pool that you earn.

It is important to note that with the new system, you will only receive credit for unique interaction, and you can only earn credit from another unique user once per metric per day. (If a friend votes on my content 100 times in a day, I will only get credit for 1 vote). This is critical in preventing gaming and abuse of the system as we move into more valuable token rewards. We are essentially measuring how many unique users you reached in a given day.

Daily rewards will be distributed at 02:00 am GMT everyday into your OffChain address.

Thanks for the question.

I had a Minds.com account almost a year ago but at that time it was basically for conspiracies. Government, aliens, pyramids.

Really, lol sounds fun. I love conspiracies. Thanks.

Pretty honest, i see some parallels to sphere. The big thing i love about steem is, the fact that is depends on its own blockchain.
But competition is good thing!

So true. Feels good to know other platforms are trying to catch up to where steemit is to make us feel we made a good choice to use steemit.

I am on Minds. It is a good looking has good functionality although sparse in terms of functions as compared to platforms like Facebook. But more functional than Steemit for sure. So easy to use and get started

The content is very right leaning and as mentioned earlier if you are not White an heavy right you will be bombarded or beaten with far right hate. they do not limit how people come at you and there is no real penalty so expect to be called anything you can imagine. Lots of conspiracy theorists about he wildest things.

tough tot ell how many people on the platform. Lots of marketing going on right now but still seems pretty sparse. The jump to crypto seemed like a money grab rather than a real attempt at providing extra benefits to authors. Not really clear how you get paid more at the moment.

Not sure if the platform has life for long or how well they are financed. I will give it another 3 months. No good progress and creating a coherent strategy for authors and growth and I am out of there.
