First time I learned this terms from pets. Many dogs and cats will have this problem. When their feeder left home, they might urinate, defecate, bark, howl, chew, dig or try to escape. After I researched form the internet, I found it happened at the children always!

Fussing and crying are the classic signs of separation anxiety disorder. Screaming and tantrums are possible, too. During the day, the child may refuse to leave the parents. During the night, the child may wake up and cry out for the parents.

Symptoms may include:

  • Recurrent and excessive distress about being away from home or parents
  • Constant, excessive worry about losing a parent to an illness or a disaster
  • Constant worry that something bad will happen, such as being lost or kidnapped, causing separation from parents
  • Refusing to be away from home because of fear of separation
  • Not wanting to be alone and without a parent in the house
  • Repeated nightmares about separation
  • Frequent complaints of headaches, stomachaches or other symptoms when separation from a parent is anticipated

A news said that a grandfather cannot handle the grandson who have SAD. They need the help of mental health expert or social worker! It's so sad of the news at these few days, too many case about children abuse. If we can pay more attention about mental health, I think many those of case will be prevented!

Indeed it can be prevented as early as the sign noticed. It’s difficult to deal when it gets worse. More time and other priorities will set aside. Great post @kona.
