Market Friday's Garden of Pleasure

The Glory of the Garden

Our England is a garden, and such gardens are not made
By singing: "Oh, how beautiful!" and sitting in the shade

Today is #MarketFriday initiated by @dswigle (Denise, that's me!!) Join me as we share our markets across the globe. I always look forward to seeing what you send me! It is amazing to see the different markets and cultures of our friends here on steemit. I have been pleasured by all of you, as you send in the most wonderful posts. Going places, doing things, buying merchandise. I have been surprised by many, not being familiar with the culture and I must say that it has been such an educational experience for me in so many ways and I hope for you also. This week, I went to the local nursery to buy flowers! It is that time of year again! My favorite time! Time to plant the garden!

Have you got your garden or pots started?

Different varieties of azeleas and fruit/ornamental trees

This is my local nursery. It goes on for almost forever, but, also had an area that is covered. It is privately owned and operated by an exceptionally nice family. They actually have three stores in the Washington, DC area and I chose the one closest to me today. Not because it is the closest, but, because they have the most variety, always! The people they employ there are very knowledgable and have taught me much useful information regarding my gardens, two of the employees teach me photography tricks and one girl gives me tips on life. (Some are pretty good too!) So, it is really a one-stop shop of sorts.

Please leave the link to your post on here so it can easily be found by others. It helps you and me to have them in one place. Where else can you take such a quick trip around the globe? Thank you so much for joining us!! ❤

Ivy Geranium

I love the geranium, especially the Ivy variety. Whereas the regular geraniums grow tall and upright, the Ivy Geranium hangs down and makes for a lovely sight. The regular geranium has soft leaves and the Ivy have a smaller and waxy/shiny leaf. I love planting them in window pots for the sills and let them grow long all summer long. They are a beautiful site.

STOP!! BRAIN TEASER AHEAD!!

Question: An Arab sheik is old and must will his fortune to one of his two sons. He makes a proposition. His two sons will ride their camels in a race, and whichever camel crosses the finish line LAST will win the fortune for its owner. During the race, the two brothers wander aimlessly for days, neither willing to cross the finish line. In desperation, they ask a wise man for advice. He tells them something; then the brothers leap onto the camels and charge toward the finish line. What did the wise man say?

source

Answer: The rules of the race were that the owner of the camel that crosses the finish line last wins the fortune. The wise man simply told them to switch camels.

Bleeding Hearts

One of my favorite spring flowers. I have several places where they are coming up, but, one got stomped to death last fall when work was being performed in the garden. Oh, my bleeding, bleeding heart! I bought this one to take its place.

Forget-Me-Nots

Can one conceive of any reason for a flower's beauty excepting our ability to enjoy their exquisite splendor? Oh, please! Forget-me-not!

Market Friday 2.JPG
Herbs of all kinds

If you were looking for herbs, they were 50% off. I had started a few from seed, but, I needed more chives and thyme. The rest of them, I had already started a while back. So now I was complete. Has anyone noticed how expensive herbs and spices have gotten??

Market Friday 10.JPG

I didn't buy any, but they had a major selection of statues and this little guy kept trying to make me put it in the cart. Oh, he begged, I swear it!! Maybe next time!

Market Friday 9.JPG
Pansies in a basket

They had so many statues, in all different kinds. I know!!!!! Who could resist this cute little dog? His eyes said take me home! I know I could have found the best spot for him, but, I have already gotten several pieces for the yard... I didn't want to be THAT yard that had the overabundant collection going on!

And just like that, my shopping is done. Until next time! I hope you had fun and maybe next time, we will get a few more plants to fill in the spaces. As always, I want to thank you for taking the time to visit #MarketFriday!! Have a most fabulous day!

Market Friday 14.JPG
Double Pleat Blackberry Columbine

I have actually never seen this, nor even heard of it! It is a perennial (I went to the perennial house, they keep their annual flowers and perennials separate. I was very excited to see these and when I collect the seeds at the end of the season, I will be sending my sisters both some. I love the unusual shape of them! I want to thank you for coming with me! I had a lot of fun and although I took pictures inside (Yes, there is more neat stuff inside! We will save that for another day, I have taken up a lot of your time already!!! Thank you!

I have been discovering new places, some right in my own area! This week, I discovered a new farmers market that will be a walkable distance! I find that super exciting! I love to share and be shared with! I am intrigued by different cultures. It is exciting and yes! I would love to see yours! Don't forget to take photos wherever you happen to be shopping - whether it be the grocery store, the local marketplace or even an art gallery, a kite festival or a cherry blossom festival! Wherever money is exchanged for a service or for merchandise. Be different if you wish! It does not have to be a traditional market! We will love it! I promise you! Don't forget to use the hashtag #MarketFriday and @dswigle.

Thank you for visiting my post 💖 Because of you, I come back to post, again and again, I am encouraged by you, for the time you take to visit, comment or even upvote. For all of these reasons, I am eternally grateful. Don't ever forget what a wonderful world we live in, people. Let's hold hands around the globe and make this earth really spin. Some days, it is not as easy to see, how wonderful it really is. Kindness counts. Wherever you go, whatever you do.

I always post this poem down at the bottom of my posts. It is one that has become so near and dear to my heart. I only post the most famous part of it, but, wanted to post it in its entirety today.

they set my aunts house on fire
i cried the way women on tv do
folding at the middle
like a five pound note.
i called the boy who use to love me
tried to ‘okay’ my voice
i said hello
he said warsan, what’s wrong, what’s happened?

i’ve been praying,
and these are what my prayers look like;
dear god
i come from two countries
one is thirsty
the other is on fire
both need water.

later that night
i held an atlas in my lap
ran my fingers across the whole world
and whispered,
"where does it hurt?"
it answered,

"everywhere"
"everywhere"
"everywhere"

Oh, wow!!!

Would you like a little cheese with that whine? :) You know I appreciate every #MarketFriday word that you write!

Thank you so much and have yourself an amazing night.

The dog planters are very nice with those pleading faces. Yes it is time for sprucing up the garden. Our local place has bags of 2 sq ft of mulch for 2 bucks. I cant pass that up! Going to load up this weekend. Looks like a fun and colorful time! Yes those bleeding hearts are one of my faves!

The dog Planters are really pretty nice oh, aren't they? Those little faces made me want to bring them home, but I knew that the pansies inside would not last that long. Once that he comes rolling in, the pansies are pretty dead. It is truly time to spruce up those Gardens. The local Lowe's had the bags of mulch 5 for $10 and it was the Netscape, which is the very black and Rich mulch. Our sale just ended last week, but I suspect that that is a popular sale in many places. I think they made the bag smaller then it used to be.

You definitely have your work cut out for you and yes! I'm not sure I would load up this weekend if I could load up today. Unless of course the sale starts tomorrow. If it's at Lowe's, I buy it online and then get in line to let them load it up. That avoids on those pesky lines.

Oh yes! It's been a fun week planting everything and those bleeding hearts or one of my favorites! Who can resist a bleeding heart?

I hope you have a most fabulous day!

r3arq375g4.jpg

Oh, those Double Pleat Blackberry Columbine were to die for! I loved them at first glance and just had to take them home with me. Who would be able to resist? It was the first time I have been so enamored with a plant. Okay... maybe the fuschia and bleeding hearts make my heart skip a beat!

The dog was adorable, wasn't he??? I could see him sitting in my garden, but, I really dislike a garden full of statues. LOL

Well, you know. He was hard to resist, but, I ran fast!!! Thank you for always stopping in, dropping a link and participating with the most amazing blogs EVER!

I hope you are having a wonderful weekend!

!tip

And i can see why you were so enamored with that flower i would have done the same and i agree as cute as that dog looked it's not going to look good in a crowded circus so you made the right choice by running....lol :)

Had a great weekend but all to fast it's over for me but not for you have a great Sunday :)

What can serve better than a flower market? Wonderful. How many times will I marvel at your flowers? I'm a fan of your photos, especially those with flowers ...
I have to ask forgiveness that I have not yet been able to respond to your comments. We had very busy days and nights, we got back to Bucharest, home for a few days ...
I'm glad I was able to make this little blog for this Friday ... A More Special Friday
67iwrk64bs.jpg

I am finally back to a flower market! Of course, it's one of my favorite markets however, I have to be cognizant of the fact that it is not everybody's favorite Market! I am so pleased to hear that you like the photos of the flowers. That makes my heart Happy.

No forgiveness is needed because life absolutely comes first. I am guilty being so far behind at this point that I may have to leave the comments that I did not get time for and move forward because it's causing me more Strife thinking about how I needed to answer them and not been able to. Especially when we are traveling are you working the days are busy and time is not our own. You have to keep in mind that this is supposed to be fun and by putting those stresses on ourselves, we make it not so fun. So, relax and enjoy and please do what you can and the rest will get done when there is time or will have to be moved forward from there.

I too, am so happy to see if you were able to make time for a Blog today. It is my lucky day! And thank you! I hope you have a most incredible Friday!

I wonder why it is called a nursery ...?
I love the deep blue of the forget me not, they remind me my beloved creatures that are mostly blue ^_^ ❤️
The dragons made me smile, they look like pets, probably dogs, well
they could be Luigi's pet for sure 😃

Columbine is a flower that is new to me. I love when I learn a flowers name. Those Double Pleat Blackberry ones are so pretty. I love walking around nurseries. Alas, there are none that close to me. Sounds like yours is a one-stop shop. Advice even. I had to double take on the azalea. I thought they were cherry blossoms for a second.

Here is my contribution to #marketfriday. Back to the gallery for me:)

https://steemit.com/haiku/@prydefoltz/approach-a-monet-haiku-and-market-friday-with-dswigle

I think I am surprised that you don't have Comumbine up there! I never knew about them until I went to Colorado and Texas. A whole new variety of beauty came home with me. I also love learning the names of them and am happy when I can identify them for someone.

The Double Pleat Blackberry is even more beautiful in person if you can believe that! Those had to come home with me! I could have spent all day in there, but, that is too dangerous. I walk around and they all call me by name, begging me to take them home.

My place is a one-stop kind of shop. They love giving advice and helping in any way they can. They even came to my house once to check out my cherry tree as I was having some difficulty with it. I didn't buy it there AND I hadn't asked them to do that. The took it upon themselves to see if they could help, then restaked it as that was part of its problem. Talk about nice!!!!

I had to look at the TAG on the azaleas! I thought it was something else too. They were stunning! Thank yo for dropping the link here! It is appreciated so much and Yay!!! We are going to the gallery! I love it!

As always, lovely lady, have a great weekend!

!tip

They are some nice people, for sure. Although you sound like the perfect customer too. We may have the Columbine up here but I'd not have known their name. Not the blackberry one though. I would have remembered that one. How is your cherry tree doing now?

That was last season, but now? I would say it is doing wonderful!!

Her blooms were abundantly beautiful! Thank you for asking!

No wonder you can capture so many gorgeous floral images @dswigle with having a great nursery so close to home. I had a hard time sorting out which flowers I liked the best, and decided that viewing beautiful flowers shouldn't cause stress......of any kind so I gave up trying to find a favourite.

In saying that.......I do think there is something very special about those Double Pleat Blackberry Columbine flowers, not having seen this species before.

A glorious post Denise........have a glorious weekend. I am about to put my market Friday blog together, so I will return a.s.a.p. (U & R )

Here is my post:

wrn0po8lxr.jpg

Haha! I would like to say that I go there to get my pictures, but the truth is, I tend to stay away from there, otherwise I am tempted to buy some more for my garden! One can never have too many flowers or herbs can you?

Most of my pictures come from one part or other of my gardens, plus don't forget I have a weekend house that has endless gardens. It sits on a little land and has wildflowers and formal (well not really formal, but, organized gardens)So, I have a lot of different gardens to pull from. Right now, it is the beginning of the season and everything is tiny. :)

Are those Double Pleat Blackberry Columbine flowers so gorgeous??? This is the first time I had seen the. They are probably a hybrid of sorts, I need to look them up, but, I sure did buy a couple!

Thank you for dropping your link here and I appreciate all of your wonderful efforts in taking all the pictures and putting a post together. I truly appreciate it. I wish you a most awesome weekend!

Time does fly!!! You should see me on Thursday nights, to be a fly on the wall! I am editing pictures and pushing together my #MarketFriday post for the week. I feel so unorganized some days, but I always buckle down and put it together before Friday comes... this week I was ready ahead of time, how unusual! Of course, I usually post it Thursday night late to accommodate the people in the overseas time zones.

I look forward to you El Jardin de Marieta/part 2!!

As always, a wonderful weekend for you! And get out and enjoy life!!! ;)

#MarketFriday loves you!

!tip

Love, love love the columbine!!!! Such a neat perennial. I can't wait for it to bloom each spring...I have never seen the blackberry variety, wow! Definitely put that one in your cart. Those statues are darling, but you're right, how many can you have before it's too many, lol I bet you have an amazing yard @dswigle just based upon the pictures you share :) Happy planting my friend!

I love it too!! I await it eagerly every year and I can honestly say that I have never been disappointed! Such beautiful little flowers and every year, it seems like another one hits the street!

I did buy the blackberry one, wasn't it darling? So different too! I had never seen one before! And now, I have to wait another year to see more flowers come out! The yard is a work in progress, but, I don't want it to look like THAT yard, you know?

So, I am a happy camper, getting the gardens replanted and watching as the perennials come in. Mother Nature is awesome.

Thank you for stopping by! I loved the visit!

#MarketFriday loves you!
