THROW AWAY YOUR PHONE PART 1-min.png

Your phone can be your best friend, or your worst nightmare. Which is it for you?
~Zane Bradshaw~

I just did a Google search, and I could not find one decent example of the quote I was looking for. So, I just made my own. That is in the exact context that I would like to explain this.

So, notice I mentioned in the title 'most people'. This is because for most people, their phone is a HUGE liability. So for those people, it's their worst nightmare.

So, why do I say your phone is probably a liability? Well, let me ask you a questionnaire. Answer these in your head:

  1. Do you have the Facebook app installed?
  2. Do you have the Instagram app installed?
  3. How many people do you message on Whatsapp per day?
  4. How many games do you have installed?
  5. Do you have the YouTube app installed?
  6. Do you have SnapChat installed?

Answer those questions. See, the reason I say 'most' people, is because I do not have a single one of those applications installed on my phone. Not even YouTube.

Why not even YouTube? Because I know the app is very responsive and addictive. The main video feed has way too much clickbait. If I need motivation, I simply open my phone's browser, and I search a quick video, and then I close it.

If you have those applications installed, I am 90% certain that you are not trying your best in life. Now, notice I kept that extra 10% on unsurety? That's because these applications can also be used in a person's favor. They can all be used as business tools too. I know many people who make a lot of money through many of these apps.

See, for me the only use I have for my phone is:

  1. Occasionally logging into my bank account.
  2. Replying to comments on Steemit.
  3. Messaging somebody for something urgent.
  4. Listening to motivating music.
  5. Using the mobile web browser instead of my MacBook.

That's it. I basically abandoned my Instagram account like 2 months ago. Same with my Facebook account. Why? They are life suckers! Haven't you ever noticed how Instagram was designed? It's an addictive atmosphere and environment. It's designed with the same concept as the business plan presented in 'The Wolf of Wallstreet'. That plan is to never allow your customer to cash-out or leave your service.

My conclusion to all this was simple.. DELETE! I had over 35K followers on Instagram (Maybe still do). I got thousands of likes per post I used to make. None of that matters. It's about being real, and being bigger than all that stereotype sh*t.

This was Part 1 of this series. Stay tuned for Part 2 in the next post. I have 27K SP, so I like to reward great comments!

I use FB like twice a year to talk to somebody I don't have a phone number of. Whatsapp is all I use sparingly. But nothing else of those life suckers.

I've been thinking about deleting my fb account for several reasons. The time waste part is one and the other is 90% of my feed is garbage on fb.

I've been thinking for awhile now and Maybe it's time to start doing (deleting useless accounts and apps on my phone).

Bro, for me, I just factory reset my phone. Then I deleted all the default apps. My phone's home screen has one app: My default browser. That's it. Sounds crazy, but it really relieves your mind being more simple.

I recommend you try it for yourself.

Wow that is one fancy reply you got there! Thanks :)

Factory reset is a pretty hardcore way of going about it but whatever gets the job done and is the most useful in keeping you more focused / less distracted.

I'm at a different point in my journey of erasing myself from most social media. Maybe some day I'll catch up with you or at least simplify my digital life a good bit.

True on those social media that sucks our attention away. They are designed to be that way too. I had moved from FB and Instagram to Steemit. It is like 70% Steemit and 30% others. While in Steemit, it involves writing, commenting and replying which requires a significant amount of effort too but these effort is much worthwhile than doing that on other platform as we can earn and own our own behavior. For other social media, they monetize from our behavior.

Zane, my friend. I tried to delete my facebook account many times because I can see a lot of garbage and toxic posts on facebook. Plus it is eating so much of my time.

I tried really hard not to use it but it was hard. Using other applications to help and communicate with people who are asking for my help is very difficult for me. Thankfully, I discovered a function on Facebook where I can control the things that I am seeing on my newsfeed. Now I am unfollowing toxic people who love to post negative things online and I make sure to see first all the pages that interest me like self-development, financial tips, healthy food recipes, exercise, and workouts, etc. It's very helpful. But when I started my journey on steemit, I only use facebook to communicate with my groups.

I still have youtube apps as well for I use it to listen to worship songs, watch motivational videos and all. I am able to customize the things that I saw on my youtube homepage as well. So I'm good with it.

Maybe if we learn how to control ourselves, and our behavior using every app, maybe if we use those applications on the positive way, ways that can help us grow then maybe having those applications will not be a bad idea after all. Maybe we just need to learn how to use it in our own advantage and not allow those applications to control us. We must live our life with full awareness and not on an autopilot. Being fully aware of our life and on the things we are doing is the first big step owning our life back again. If we can retrain our mind to live with full awareness then we can start living a great life as human beings and not as robots.

I commented you on cutting the social ties and finding a more authentic connection with people here. I stopped using the book of faces and gram of the instant for the most part. Now I only use them to share my steem posts out to so if any of my friends want to know where I went they can find me.
I was looking for a new home for my digital life for a couple of years now and am so happy to find steem. As an artist I had stuff all over the web but no where felt like home.
I just started on steem and I am finally finding the open connections with others I looked for in many other places. I think the greatest value this platform offers is giving us our own keys to our digital presence.
Your blog post always look so beautiful I respect the effort you put into them. Thank you for ditching the other platforms so we can be blessed with your efforts.

the book of faces and gram of the instant

I love that!! :D So funny hahaha.

I totally agree with what you are saying here. It's so true though. Besides, this platform is all anybody needs. Not even for the money, just in general, it's a far better made platform. I feel you can make such a stronger connection with a person here.

Thank you for your kind words! I really appreciate that. I am glad you are finding value out of what I am producing :)

Glad I made you smile. And yes the beauty of this platform is you can also develop ideas and apps for it. The community can make what they desire to see. And oh yeah you can own a part of the platform also.
Hear that Woosh swish bing boom that is the sucking sound as all the people leave the other platforms for steem. Hey remember MySpace.... it is just a matter of time till Blockchain tech disruption makes the advertising machines obsolete.
Keep up the quality work my new friend it is people like you that makes me feel good to invest in steem power.

Yeah man I can definitely agree with that! I'm glad what I am doing here makes you feel good and confident! Let's go!!

Thanks @enazwahsdarb for this amazing post. You may not know it, but you have helped me resolve a puzzle.

I stumbled on Steemit in the course of researching crypto currencies (that is how a lot of people discovered Steemit actually). After taking several courses on how Steemit works, I decided to register. In less than 12 hours, I was approved. I have been trying to familiarize myself with the platform. Seems like a lot of work.

As I was digging deeper and deeper into Steemit, I kept wondering whether there is the need to belong to all those other platforms. Steemit has everything all those other platforms offer; but more importantly, Steemit serves us better! I am glad I have found somebody who has already crossed the bridge I was contemplating to cross. Thanks @enazwahsdarb for being such inspiration.

I look forward to DTube uploading process being significantly improved and the Tube for You will be history for me.

Steemit rocks! It connects with modernity as crypto is the new reality. Those fighting it are merely wasting their useless time.

Very nicely said my man! I appreciate that comment. I think the 21 century world is just drenched in a bag of lies.

All those people on social media trying to be something or someone they are not.

Not HERE! Here, on Steemit, we are real. We are open, and we provide value. For that very reason, I see it as the best platform out there.

I'm glad I was able to inspire you! Now, let's do this!

I rarely use FB; only to see what my daughters are posting about, really. Same for Instagram. I do like snapchat, but that takes no time at all out of the day.

My vice was checking email when in my previous position. Afraid to miss something important, I was constantly checking it, much to the irritation of friends ands family. I have since changed roles and this is not longer an issue.

I DO spend a lot pf time on Steemit, but I have not been using esteem so it's only when I'm on my laptop alone...

Focus on the face in front of you! Cheers!

I totally forgot to add email to the list! WOW.. That's a big one too. Thanks for the reminder. I can totally relate to that.

Spending time on Steemit is fine though! It's at least productive. But yes, I agree, and when I am done with my hustle, I definitely look forward to being in the real world!! :D

Lots of time sucking apps to deal with, buzzing you throughout the day over the smallest thing. I think it's a good move to blow all the notifications away, and then you'll only pick up the phone when you need something from it!

(....back to my new time sucker, Steemit curation!)

Yeah man definitely! I did a full factory reset yesterday on my phone. I only have my web browser on my home screen, and guess what? I feel so free! Nothing I need to think about that I haven't checked yet.

(....back to my new time sucker, Steemit curation!)

Hahaha yeah, at least this time sucker i worth it.

Freeeedom!

Yeah enjoying this game a lot more - expecting the number of players to go ballistic, which will be epic!

Totally agreed! I think Steemit still has a few issues to overcome before mass-adoption, but I believe they will overcome all those things, and really soar! Exciting times :)

Yeah for sure. Some of the tools the community have written help, but still some way to go. I'm just happy to be involved now cause the future looks bright!

Amen to that my man! Definitely. Let's do this :)

My wife says all the time that she just got on facebook 30 minutes ago to check something someone wanted her to see and it's like why am I still on this. She uses facebook to help promote her business, but I've been helping here limit her time. You should probably add pinterest to that list as well.

It's crazy. It's honestly not surprising though.. Just think about it. Do you honestly think such a multi-billion dollar company like Facebook (Who owns Instagram!) would not invest a ton of time and money into learning the psychology of how to get people most addicted? It's understandable. Then again, most people won't do anything about it.

Just change for the better and beat all odds :)
