Real People Do Real Things
One of my favorite sayings is: "Real people do real things." I love it because it motivates me to take action. To not just talk about doing stuff but to bunker down and actually do it.

It's amazing how easy it is to talk a good game. Not even intentionally, but without any awareness whatsoever.
It happens silently, secretly, in the background somehow. We attached to an identity that someone gave us, something we once were, something we once aspired to be, or something we think we are.
Then, we keep carrying that identity forward.
We change, life changes, and what we do changes. Yet, when people ask us who we are, we tell them the same old thing.
To many of us, that's just who we are.
But wait. Is it?
I've talked about this before, that gap that can easily form between who we think we are, and who we actually are.
When was the last time you examined what you base your identity on? What did you tell someone, when they asked who you were? How did you describe yourself?
And, what about those things you said you aspired to do, or that thing you aspired to be?
How long have you been talking about wanting to do stuff?
Have you been taking action towards any of it? How much? How often?
You can't say something is important and then it not be a part of your life! It's either important, or it's not. By the same token, how can you say you are something, that you are not? What you are is reflected by what you actually practice and do.
People can make things so complicated, but it's really very simple.

If you want to be a writer, then write. Write every day. Now you're a writer. Easy peasy. Do you really need to have someone label you as a writer in order to adopt that label for yourself? No, of course not! You merely have to actually be writing. If you're writing every day, then you are a writer. If you are creating art every day, then you are an artist. If you play an instrument every day, then you are a musician.
What you are is not measured by how well you perform.
Stop disqualifying yourself from your dreams! Give yourself permission to do the things you aspire towards. Give yourself permission to be who you want to be.
If you want to be something, take action and do it. Make it part of your lifestyle. Make it part of your day. And if you're not willing to do it, if you're not willing to put in the work, be real about it.
It's really that simple.
Want to be healthy? Figure out what it means to be healthy and do it. Want to get into shape? Work on getting into shape. Want to do whatever? Figure out what you can do.
Stop complaining about what you can't do. Focus on whatever you can do. Start there.
Everyone can do something, even something small.

I am a writer. I write every day. Some days I just don't feel well. Some days, I'm tired. Some days, I am just not in the mood to write. On those days, I remind myself of what is important to me. On those days, I write anyway, despite how I feel, no matter the quality of the output.
Why?
Because, real people do real things.
