Random Japan #24 :: Rainy Day, Tiny Japanese Houses

in #japan6 years ago

On rainy days what else is there to do except go out and take photos?

What else is there to say about this one. A typical view of a typical Japanese street. Some houses visible, a business or two, a small kei-cars. Let's look at those houses in more detail.

I've showed you guys a handful of traditional houses in this series, but here is a more typical modern house. Looks more like a lego construction than a proper house, eh? That's pretty much how these things are built too. Also most modern lots are very small in many cases, as in this photo, so these houses will have up to 4 floors and no yard outside beyond a little space in front of the house for some potted plants.

The middle one here is abandoned. A few posts ago I talked about how that is a real problem in Japan. It's an odd design, especially with that stairway, presumably from before these cookie cutter houses became a thing. It has a yard also! A yard which does seem to be kind of cared for by someone, although it is full of a lot of junk.

If you like this random photo from Japan, be sure to check out @kaliju's great Random Korea series. The latest entry there is Random Korea #11 - Celebrating my first 10 Posts of #RANDOMKOREA, STEEMit style!. He has a new title graphic and everything. Hmmm... I might just borrow that idea.

Hey @dbooster,
Where in Japan did you take these photos? Seems very countryside. In Tokyo you rarely see such open areas. Everyone is packed inside small apartments.
I also write about Japan. Come stop by when you have time :)

Hi Juan. No, the countryside would be even more wide open. This is from a somewhat midsized city. haha of course little compares to Tokyo. You know I saw a map the other day that claimed Tokyo people think of everything outside of Tokyo as the inaka, and the Kansai area as "probably inaka". haha it made me laugh because it is absolutely true. Anyway, in Eastern Tokyo you don't find areas like this very often, but you can see them fairly often in Western Tokyo. Thanks for the comment :) I will check out your blog.
