An Overgrown Garden

This is what happens when your garden decides to explode a little bit.

Do you see food here or do you think it is too late? All has gone beyond saving and is ready to be ripped out?

Let's take another look.

yard.jpg

What do your hungry eyes spy???

Maybe you see the kale and the greens in the back? they are from the Broccoli family but don't make any heads - just delicious leaves.

Did you see the Nasturtiums? Every part of that plant is edible. A bit peppery tasting - but so good!!! And pretty.

The flowers make any salad look fabulous and they shine as a cake decoration.

Speaking of flowers.

The blue flowers you see are Borage and they taste just a little like cucumber.

The yellow are from bok choy and taste a bit like it. The white ones are radish flowers and have a slight radish flavor.

I like to go and just snack in the yard.

See the seed pods? They are also quite delicious when they are young. I like the radish pods the best. They are great in salads and in stir-fry.

Do you eat flowers? Seed pods?

What are your favorites?

And what else do you see what might be delicious to eat?

Oh, I LOVE borage! Like a fuzzy cucumber - lol! And the blossoms are just the most spectacular shade of blue! Hmm... now I know there is controversy about commenting and not upvoting, but I believe my autovote will kick in shortly and I never had figured out for certain if that unvotes you, so... I will check back just in case, but that is why I did not upvote!

I am not one of those who demand an upvote :) Comments are just fine with me. I do remember the days when I only had 10 upvotes per 24 hours.....

No worries!!!

It did come by! If I thought you were the kind who demanded votes you would not be on autovote... ;)

Oh to have a garden! I have nasturtiums, borage, mint, basil, parsley, chard and spinach growing on my balcony.....all excellent for juicing.

Yes!!! They are!!! And lots can be grown on a balcony!!!

Looks like you have a lot of lovely things to choose from! A great backyard salad!

Thank you so much for stopping by!!

Hmm, I saw the kale, nasturtiums, and radishes. Radish pods are my favorite too. I prefer them much over the root.

The borage I didn't catch and the Bok Choy I saw but didn't know what it was. To me it looked similar to canola. I think they are both brassicas.

Is that a Sun flower in the center? Also what is that in the right bottom corner? Is that cilantro or some sort of parsley?

This is a fun game. It's too bad I can't zoom and enhance!

Yes!!! On everything. It is a sunflower (self-seeded from last year) and there is cilantro in front. Towards the back, fennel is sticking up - both the bulbs and the greens are edible. In there, but impossible to see are also beets, spinach and a few cabbages...

Beautiful garden. I don't think I've ever eaten flowers. Maybe lilac flowers a couple of times when I was a child for good luck.

Thank you!! Maybe now, you will try some - just make sure that they are edible...
