March

This must be one of my favorite weeks of the year. Not only is today the day of the March equinox - which means it's the 'official' start of spring if you live in the northern hemisphere, and of fall if you live in the southern hemisphere - but I also have my birthday coming up tomorrow.

I can't think of a better birthday gift than the start of the new gardening season... My seeds are sprouting, the birds are chirping, and my garden comes to life again.

Would there a more perfect day of the year to launch the new edition of the SteemIt Community Garden Journal Challenge? I don't think so! :0)

Let's celebrate this change of season (ánd my birthday) by sharing our (indoor) garden/balcony updates with each other and see how much has changed compared to last month.

As always, you have the chance to put a smile on other people's face, earn a share of the Steem-Bounty I set on this post and maybe even win one of the prizes.

You can use the links below to check out the previous editions:

🌺 SteemIt Community Garden Journal April

🌺 SteemIt Community Garden Journal Early June

🌺 SteemIt Community Garden Journal Challenge July

🌺 SteemIt Community Garden Journal Challenge August

🌺 SteemIt Community Garden Journal Challenge September

🌺 SteemIt Community Garden Journal Challenge October

🌺 SteemIt Community Garden Journal Challenge November

🌺 SteemIt Community Garden Journal Challenge December

Finally, I have some things going on again myself. After a long, cold and rainy winter, the propagator is buzzing again and the first seeds have sprouted. I can't wait to show you the cute, little baby plants that will give us the gift of delicious, home-grown food during the next couple of months.

A Shoutout To Our Previous Contributors.

We've had different gardeners joining this challenge in every new edition. The participants' base follows the seasons in the different parts of the world. Since spring/fall is starting, I assume that a lot of gardeners throughout the world have things going on, and can't wait to see all updates.

During the February edition, we could enjoy the garden updates of

@porters, @alphaccino.art, @travoved, @cloudblade, @phyowinkoko, @biffybirdcam, @sifondeseltz, @london65 and @abitcoinskeptic.

In the comments section, you could see that for some people, February was just a little too soon. I wonder if March would be a better time for them.

@xcountytravelers, @plantstoplanks, @sipahikara, @blockurator, @fionasfavourites, how are your gardens/balconies/porches doing? And @frejafri - how's the new life in Denmark?

I'd like to invite all of you to post a new update.

This challenge is open for everyone who is growing plants or crops - indoors or outdoors.

If you haven’t joined before, feel free to start now. The more the merrier! There are plenty of people who are enjoying to see what's going on in other people's garden, farm or balcony.

Hello @simplymike - so pleased to catch your gardenjournal2019 this month! Here's my post about what's happening in my garden today. All the best to all the gardeners, look forward to seeing your posts :)

Here is my contribution! For the second time I am here.
Gradually my post becomes more beautiful 🌴

Thanks for joining again, @sifondeseltz

Here is my entry for the March Garden Journal challenge https://steemit.com/gardening/@porters/march-2019-my-garden-journal-entry

Hello and nice to see you again. I'm participating as well, here is my entry Onions And Garlic - Gardening Report

Happy Birthday @simplymike!

It's a little early yet, since it has been an unusually cold winter around here... the last piles of snow from our "snowpocalypse" back in early February only just melted, so there isn't really much of anything with "life" in it yet that I can share. Mostly everything has that flat/brown look that goes with growth having been weighed down by snow for a while...

But here's a little sign of spring; these were sheltered from most of the snow by a large tree...

x-hyacinths.jpg

·

Little signs are enough to keep the hopes up 😙

I can hardly believe another gardening season is about to start! So happy!

I have a little bit of growth but no blooms yet. I have no idea what is growing! I have been busy tryi g to get all the leaves raked away and am waiti g for the landlord to come deal with these. He was supposed to be here on thursday last week.

At least something is growing after the dreadful winter :0)

These are my tomatoes. They've improved quite well lately. I will harvest them and eat them beautifully. I thank you for your support in gardening and farming.

·

Wow, those are quite some tomatoes you have there... :0)

Hello! Here is my entry to the challenge :) I wish it's not too late.

·

You were on time, it was me who was not home to upvote your post before the @steem-bounty paid out. I'm sorry for that. All participants received about 0.5 Steem for their entry comment, so I will just send the same amount to your wallet.

You were definitely in time to join the contest - I accept all entries that are posted before I publish the winners post - of which I hope I can do so tomorrow.

Thanks for entering. I gave your post a 100% upvote and will read it in a minute. Those little tomato plants look awesome!

·
·

Nonono ... @simplymike, you are too kind! You didn't have to send me 0.5 Steem ... even I didn't or still don't understand the @steem-bounty system ;) It was simply fun for me to write about my small indoor garden. Thank you a lot for hosting this wonderful gardeners' gathering on Steemit :)

Happy birthday @simplymike, you have my best wishes!
Here is my entry:
Farm update, March 2019 (and some bad news).

·

Thanks for joining again, @fotostef. Sorry to hear about the olive trees.

·
·

The pleasure is mine!
This challenge is a great opportunity to step back and look around :)

Hey @simplymike -- hope you had a really lovely birthday! It must feel so exciting for it to be Spring again. I've now known you for a few seasonal changeovers - remember when you started this and I not so subtly asked whether you'd think of us poor folk in the Antipodes, reminding you of seasons on the flipside haha?

Here's my update - hope you enjoy it, and hope Spring brings a great year of good health and much garden for you. Oh, forgot to say, but my cucamelons GREW - but didn't bear fruit!!

hey @mariluna
My excuses for not being able to reply in Spanish.
This world is a magical place indeed :0)

·

So happy you could make it, @frejafri - I'm so curious :0)

I wasn't home at the time you posted your comment, so I couldn't upvote it to make sure you would get your share of the @steem-bounty. Everyone received about 0.5 Steem (there were more entries than I had counted on when I set the bounty, lol), but I'll send the same amount to your wallet.

As you probably know by now, I consider all entries that come in before I publish the winners' post as valid entries, so you'll also receive my 100% upvote on your post.. I really hope I can put up that winners' announcement post tomorrow. I'm gonna send you the Steem quickly, and then head over to your post, because that dome really triggers my interest. It looks so very cool!

I have my own pictures ready - finally something is growing again - but i simply haven't had the time to post them yet. :0/

·
·

Thank you, you're so sweet :D
So happy I made it before the winners announcement!
tell me about it, I have so many pictures and great stories I never get time to post..!

Good day @simplymike! First of all let me congratulate you with your Birthday! Happy birthday!
Now please correct required tag for #gardenjournal2019.
And here is my entry
https://partiko.app/@travoved/my-garden-in-march-2019-kqmmlss5

·

Thanks for the heads up. Used the wrong image. Corrected it now...

Thanks for the mention. I barely considered last month an entry, more like a shock surprise. The pepper seedlings are doing well now, out of the 14, I still have 8 which took to soil, quite good. Hoping at least 4 more make it.

I've now looked into 2 community gardens / weekend farms in my neighborhood. One is for dog owners only and I don't think I want to by a dog just for that reason. The other is near the train tracks so it won't really be peaceful. It's an option though. I've heard rumors of others that will start soon. I'll have another look on the weekend. Hopefully I can find something and at least get a few pictures of dirt, otherwise, it will just be my seedlings and house plants again :)

Update: https://steemit.com/gardenjournal2019/@abitcoinskeptic/i-found-my-2019-weekend-garden

·

I have my first two sprouted seeds... Got some more unknown crops from the farm around the corner. I should really get to it, but my back doesn't want me to. Sigh! Hopefully, it will be better tomorrow.

Hope you'll find good spot.

·
·

Well, I found it. Very close to my house, too. Going to start next weekend. Sorry, the pics (link in parent comment) are just a dirty field now. But I'm excited.

·

Gladyou could make it just in time, @mariannewest. I'm always looking forward to your updates :0)

@simplymike, I wanted to share but recently our garden got destroyed, but soon we are planning to plant.

Hope that some awesome entries will going to come up. Have a great time ahead.

·

How come it's destroyed, @chireerocks?

·
·

Unfortunately it's destroyed by our neighbours. It's a small gardening space and in that garden everything got cut offed but we are planning to plant again.

IMG_20190321_160826.jpg

·
·
·

Destroyed by your neighbours??? WTF? I will probably never understand mankind...

·
·
·
·

In my opinion we should not forget about one aspect and that is, not everyone is human in the face of human. Have a blessful time ahead.

would love to but just started seeds indoors yesterday. This far north it will be at least the May long weekend before I can put anything out on the patio. I wrote this blog post yesterday with photo of our first planting indoors. https://steemit.com/tenkminnows/@ericburgoyne/seed-starting-time-a-bit-later-bgbm8fpk

Yes I finally was able to upload my photos and glad I made it on time. Thanks Mike

Happy Spring and Happy Birthday! Mine is the 26th, so I'm right there with you. :) Thanks for tagging me. We actually have some sprouts coming up in the garden out back, so I will definitely try to get a post up in the next few days. The herbs are starting to go nuts, too, so I have plenty of those to share!

·

Cool! Can't wait! :0)

·
·
·
·
·

Thanks for joining, @plantstoplanks.
I love it to see how gardens are being born. I'm gonna take my phone out later today to make some pictures and try to get up a post too. Not that there's so much going on already, but the herbs are doing great, and I even got a very unexpected surprise.
I love experimenting with unusual plants, even the ones that aren't fit for our climate.

I got my hands on some black sapote seeds, and decided to see if I could get them to sprout. Yesterday, I found out one did already... so happy about it. I'm not putting my hopes up on them ever growing fruitsn but still, who knows.... The Cherimoya I sowed last year is still alive too... :0)

·
·
·
·

Oh fun! We've gotten avocado to sprout or pineapple to root, but neither can last through the winter. That would be fun to see if yours stay alive! Some of our best crops have come from volunteers out of the compost. I think the best tomatoes we've ever had and an awesome season of acorn squash were ones we got from tossing scraps right into the garden! Looking forward to checking out yours and everyone else's progress!

My plum tree just starting to bloom.

Finally it's spring! It's been a long cold winter but finally it's starting to warm up and I can't wait until the snow melts enough to get the cover back on the greenhouse/hoop house to capture some of that heat and get things growing!
Happy Birthday! That is a lovely time to have a birthday! I'll be putting in an update of my garden for I love this Gardening Journal!

·

Aweome, @porters. You still have snow?
Where are you at?

·
·

I garden in a zone 2 garden in Saskatchewan, Canada
We have snow typically for 5 months a year.
It has started to warm up now and the snow is starting to go fast.

Sadly we are now in Autumn and Winter is hiding around the corner.
All of the best with your efforts my friend!
Blessings!

·

Sorry to hear that. Autumn and winter are always a bummer.

Happy Birthday! So glad you are doing the Garden community journal challenge again, I loved getting a peek into gardens from all over the world.

·

Thanks, @walkerland.

I really don't appreciate this comment that is completely unrelated to the post, and I am kindly asking you to remove it. It feels like you're trying to make me look like the 'bad guy' here for not 'willing to engage with you or your little community'. To be honest, my willingness to do so stopped when you were making a big deal about delegating a lot to redfish and minnows, and then came knocking on my door with the question if I could donate you some SP. I get it that you want to make a name for yourself, but that is not the way to do it, imo.

Everyone knows I'm willing to engage with everyone, but I don't like to be pushed, and I definitely don't want to pictured as the one that isn't willing to engage. I also don't understand why you say

It was pleasure to know you

Will you be ignoring me then, just because I don't want to receive your wallet messages anymore?

You've been communicating through wallet memos all this time... i wonder why you had to make this a public comment. Again, please remove the comment, since this is a post about gardening, and for all I can see, you don't have anything gardening related to tell me

·
·

Dear @simplymike

You've been communicating through wallet memos all this time... i wonder why you had to make this a public comment.

Honestly I don't know how else could I contact you and appologize for upseting you with those memos, since you asked me not to send you any. Droping comment is the only option I could think of.

Making you feel like a bad guy is not my intention. I would not say that it was "pleasure to know you". The fact is that I really value your person and your content.

ps. I also removed my previous comment as requested. I will remove current ones as well within next 24h.

Please keep in mind, that my intentions are definetly not hostile.

Yours
Piotr

·
·
·

Thanks for doing so, @crypto.piotr.
I assumed you posting the comment in public was the result of me asking not to send me wallet messages anymore. I guess I had it coming, lol

·
·
·
·

Dear @simplymike

Thank you for your calm previous reply.

Will you be ignoring me then, just because I don't want to receive your wallet messages anymore?

Please allow me only to comment this sentence. I assumed that I upseted you and based on my life experience - it's very hard to keep in touch online when someone is upset at you.

I will naturally not ignore you, I will do my best to avoid sending you memos and if you would ever need my help to promote some content related to blockchain then you can still count on me.

My goal is to avoid conflict situations (best way I possibly can).

Yours, Piotr

·
·
·
·
·

You did not upset me. I was just wondering what you meant with

It was pleasure to know you

Thank you for calling me over @simplymike - I really must ferret out some photos of the garden - especially since we've had some rain and things are beginning to green up. It's been a really torrid time and I'm hoping that we get good winter rains this year and that our front garden will revert from being a dustbowl to being a lawn.

So, assuming I get my a- into g- my contibution won't be a formal part of the challenge....but I'll share it anyway!

Oh, and happy spring!

Happy Birthday, my friend! I hope you have a great day, and enjoy the start of spring! :)

Hey @ericburgoyne
Your name and the progress of your gardening efforts makes me think you're not as much further North than I am. I'm still in the process of planting the first seeds too - actually, I have a couple that have sprouted already, thanks to my fancy propagator ;0)
But it will still be May before anything can go outside, except maybe for the cabbages and the peas and beans.

Now I'm really curious where you're from.
